Starting on my Garage...... 30x40x10 Southern Indiana

Well I am finally getting a Garage. Located in Southern Indiana. It will be a pole barn style garage. I will try update as they make progress. It will take approximately 2 weeks to build. Main reason it will be Middle to late next week before they can do the floor. The concrete guys are covered up.

I have a contractor doing everything except the electric. My Son and Brother in Law will be doing that. I will help but mainly just assisting since they are the "experts" lol.

The garage will mainly be my hobby shop and put vehicle in in the winter.

I will try answer any questions.

Attached is Day 1 progress.

Thanks

I thought real hard going 12' but this fit my budget better. I doing few other project too. But 12-14' be nice for a lift.

Was the gravel just placed on top of the grass?, that's going to be problematic with doing a concrete floor? It's hard to tell from the pics if you removed the organic layer? Usually this layer gets removed so there's no settling

Building is looking good so far, I'm looking at the same size but might go 12' on the walls, not sure yet.

Nice building Scout3918 .. about the same size as my barn. You'll love the space.

I'd agree with kmcphee in regard to the base that has been established for the concrete. It would be prudent for you to check out the information provided here, Picking a Pole Building Contractor, in regard to concrete and discuss it with the builder / concrete folks.

Day 5

Yesterday 4-17-17 they finished up gutters, formed sidewalk and trim work etc. They was hoping to do the actual Garage doors, but had a delivery issue. the doors will be 12 w x 8 h.

It will be late in week before floor and sidewalk gets poured. Hopefully next week I can start on electric and start moving my tools etc. in later in week. Hope to use it next weekend.

Building looks great. The grass and any organic matter needs to be removed where concrete is to be placed. As the organic material deteriorates the concrete will settle.

I'm assuming (I know how that goes) they dug down below grass etc. about 90 percent was my old graveled drive way when they started project. they used between 5-6 tri axle loads of gravel. They started while aI was at work.

One thing I have seen very little waste/extra materials left over.

I'm happy with the 10' wall but the 12' wall would def be nice and probably worth the extra cost in long run. Good luck with yours.

Day 6 of actual work.

The contractors had to wait few days for concrete guys to do floor. Yesterday 4/20/17 they poured the floor.

The actual garage doors was delivered but wrong size. My doors will be 12' w and 8' h. they delivered 12'x7x'. Bad thing now is it will be next week before they get deliver right doors. Contractor will be out of town all week or it would be finished tomorrow. (all except electric which My son and I are doing that).

They are coming today to put the cuts in floor.

Your pole barn project is looking great. Are you going to put down any floor coating, such as epoxy?

I am thinking about it, but need to do some research first, since this outside my knowledge.

got any ideal where to check? I hear good things about forum called Garage Journal or something like that lol.

any suggestions?

Did they scrape off the organic material and topsoil before they laid in the road base that is going to be under the slab?

It's looking good!

Building is looking great. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, I know I not put much detail in to this thread, but I am glad to share it and excited it getting closer to being useable.

I still waiting on them to pour the pad in front of garage. it will be next week. They are doing that and my sidewalk from my house to garage.

...poured my barn floor over sand "fill" rite over the grass, never had a problem...

Rusty1 - consider yourself lucky. All topsoil & organic (grass) material should always be removed. Topsoil and organics will continue to decompose and generally settle, mostly unevenly. This will cause voids or non continuous bearing for a slab which generally leads to cracking. Possible your job settled at a nice even rate.

5/1/17

they got my garage doors up. I had the windows placed high so still get some light in but keep people from looking inside seeing what I have. Looks little odd but I like it.

Weather permitting, hopefully they will get my sidewalk and pad done tomorrow. I gonna see how much it cost to have larger pad poured, but as now only 4' by 30'.
