I can help you out if you need a sample. I'm assuming the large hex shouldered bolt.

Can anyone identify any of these and tell me if they're worth spending an hour in traffic to acquire? The guy wants $150 for them all (5 total). I don't want them all and would only make the trip if one is worth getting. Thanks!

Joe: i'll dig mine out if you can't get a measurement from one of the other guys already helping. can you post a picture or two of the bolt you need. sorry i don't have an extra one. as i wrote this i think a new member AllFast has 2 577's taken apart currently so maybe he has one laying on his work bench.

Jrobb: you don't see many 577's that are in great shape, but there are a few out there that have been welded back together cause the old guys that worked with them figured they couldn't break a 150 pound vise by hitting it with a hammer.

nice that you found another one!!

PT: i agree with TJ. unless you need a broken Chinese wonder vise or some small vises i'd rather spend $150 and have a road trip for just one 50+ year old 4-6 inch vise made by REED, ROCK ISLAND, WILTON, ATHOL and the list goes on.

Hard to tell, is there something going on around the jaws? Can you get a better pic of that area? I'd spend some time straightening the handles, it screams abuse. I can straighten them in a couple minutes with a hammer. Also, where roughly are you located, prices vary across the US.

Sorry it took me a while, But here are a couple of close ups on the jaws.

I've been looking for a 2.5" bullet and a Will-Burt Versa Vise with the short jaws for quite some time, and managed to get both this week. I'm pretty sure the VV didn't come with two sets of pipe jaws originally, but it came with two...odd.

I'm one Wilton Machinist model (800) away from having had one of every size at one point or another

So my neighbor across the street recently sold the house. The new owners have been moving in the past few days. I figured I'd go over and introduce myself. He had the garage door open and was going through some boxes. While shooting the sh!t I look in the garage and spot this little gem. I ask him about it and He tells me he has no use for it. I tried to offer him some money but he wouldn't take it. This beauty came home with me for FREE!!! I'll make it up to him somehow. It's crazy knowing this vise has been within walking distance from me and I had no idea.

Well I saw this one forsale and I am a bit puzzled. The owner claims it has no welds, but it sure looks it to me like the moving jaw is broken where it meets the slide and has been rewelded from the photos. It looks like a 2.5" Parker. Thoughts?

I remember seeing an ad for one of these but never seen any pics. This is a Parker 123 1/2, or like the ad says, a Parker Oriole. I would have liked it for collection but it is 5 hours round trip and he wants $150.

If you ask me I think $150 is way too high. Especially considering it's missing the swivel base and the pipe jaws. Even if it was complete I couldn't get myself to pay $150 for it. But that's just me.

Meatsis, that's probably the best deal you are ever going to find.---I've noticed that some of those Ratcheting Parkers have a flattened side handle ball and some have a full round ball.---Wonder if the difference has to do with the model?:dunno:---I have a #94 with the full round ball.:dunno:

I have not had the same results. At 6 volts the electrolysis slowed considerably at winter temps, often taking days to do any kind of noticeable rust removal. I don't even do electrolysis in winter anymore for this reason.

That said, western NY gets very cold in the winter, and my electrolysis bath was a solid block this year, even with all the sodium carbonate dissolved.

I guess I never actually noticed the difference because I toss a vise in and check it in a few days. My tank didn't freeze until temps got into the low teens.

I agree something like $50 and I would have gone for it.

EDIT: I confused this ad with another, I could probably go to this place round trip in 90 minutes or so. But $150 kills it

Wondering if someone may be able to help me. E.H. Sheldon Vise I got this morning for $3. Can't find the correct patent. Appears to be missing a "static jaw?"

Good afternoon all. Figured I'd throw up a couple vises I picked up today and get some opinions. Paid $270 for the pair so it wasn't a screaming deal like I had gotten on my 600s. Not too much out there on the PoweRscrew so I don't have any idea of what it's worth but it's the one that made me head out. I know they are "rare" for a Wilton and I'd love to see it on my bench but if it's worth quite a bit I'd probably let her go. If not, then on my bench is where she'll end up. The 350 was just there and I sort of got caught up in the moment. Both were owned by an elderly gentleman who, basically, did everything. Wood working, metal work, he had top brand tools for everything. Had a couple out buildings on his property set up for whatever he needed to do. Just knowing that they got used but not abused makes me feel good about them. Anyhow, whether I keep them or resell them should I clean them up and "restore" them like I did with my 600s or leave them as is in their original paint, etc? And if I sell the PoweRscrew what should I ask. As always everyone and anyone's advice is appreciated.

Meatsis: i don't care what you paid for that cool Parker and very happy to hear you have a great new neighbor. how does the vise work and since everybody mentioned how good your deal was i'll be the one to ask for a lot more pictures if you have time. WELL DONE!!

OCD: that is maybe the best vise restoration of a cheap Chinese imported vise that i've ever seen. for the price you paid for the Extreme Green paint i think you might have paid as much for that as the vises are worth. i know they'll hold something and now they look cool too. NICE WORK!!

ALL: any members in India and China want to show us what a well made vise looks like that is made in your country since we all only see the CHEAP VERSIONS? i bet if either one of your countries wanted to make some great vises or tools you surely could so just wondering if anybody currently is.

hope you are all having a great weekend.

Oh yes.....what is your mirror polishing techique ?

I cheated and used my orbital sander and went from 60 to 400 grit... Then used some metal polish with my Snap On 14.4 polisher...

I am going to polish up the anvil tops on my wilton's, and will wet sand them up to 800 - 1200 grit...

60 - 80 - 120 - 150 - 180 - 220 - 320 - 400 - 600 - 800 - 1000 - 1200, is the grit order I usually use for polishing... Depending on the condition of the metal some earlier grits can be skipped!!

Drives & All:

Recently I restored and sold a 4" Interstate brand vise. Looks like a Bison-Bial 1250 series. Sold by MSC Supply. Made in China.

I'm currently working on a Taskmaster brand vise. Looks like a Wilton Bullet. Made in India.

Both are remarkably well made vises that I'm glad to stand behind as I sell them.

Hey guys I need some help identifying this old vise my grandfather gave me a few years ago it's a pretty good size I was told this might be a good place to get some answers c3e30cf0b0e4fd64fdb6c1c6b444f5fb.jpg6eeb68405c376a2663cce305fe5b9021.jpg81e84642f1f68e5ed186a8f3a3d7af8f.jpg9a8c5129dafef7791fc8ea02fc542280.jpg9ea9a0133319537f8da5b7beacfd3a56.jpg

Au contraire....

Here is all I have on the Hydraulic Wilton PoweRscrew...

It is a 4 1/2" Machinist's Vise...

If you price a Wilton 450S, you'll get in the ballpark...

Restored and rebuilt, will maximize your return...

Good luck with your "fluid clamper"...
