Just picked this up this morning from a lady via letgo for $40 included a cast iron stand. 8 inch, 1hp industrial bench grinder. Took it apart and cleaned it up. Needs new light bulbs. Runs fine, nice and quiet. Anything I should know about these? How'd I do for $40? I did have a hard time getting the wheels off. I could only get the right side off. Is there some kind of trick?

That's what I figured, but what do I hang on to loosen that side's nut?

Hold on to the opposite wheel. E.g. take the left side off 1st. They shouldn't be that tight, just slightly compresses the clamping washer.
Beware the wheels can be shifted in relation to one another to increase Or reduce vibration. Look at the run out to find the high spots. /-\ is best Vs /-/ or \-\.
I've tamed some wicked vibration to remain stable on a bench w//o mountings /clamps.
Infact you might check it before taking the wheels off if you don't have any reason to replace them! That maybe the difference between a no-name grinder and yours, no tune ups required.

Looking at the shrouds must be related to the HF units with better components and quality control. The total value is easily better than x2-3 what you paid, I reckon.

an impact gun would work, but failing that a few good sharp blow(s) with a hammer on a wrench or breaker bar should loosen it
+1 for the impact gun Great for removing drill chucks and other things that have no way to hold the other end.

Thanks for the info. I put a socket and ratchet on the left nut, and held the right nut with a box end wrench and only the right side nut broke free.
