Finkbeiner Lift

Anyone ever see one of these in person. They lift to height of 6' and are not attached to the floor, so they are supposedly somewhat portable.

Don't know. I have not been able to find a US distributor yet.

I'm very interested in that lift if it doesn't cost a forture.

Kinda cool, but it looks like it has terrible ground clearance. You'd never get a small sports car up on it.

That's an Audi TT in the photo. Pretty small and sporty. How small and sporty of a car do you want to get on it?

The lift weighs 1600 lbs and can lift 6600lbs. It has a TVU certification.

The minimum height for the pickup points under the vehicle is 5"

The lifting plate must pivot, right? I wonder if it locks in place, ie. if I pushed up on the front end would the car fall off the back? Nevermind....I just saw the link.

Actually I've retained Steve to help with the items and services he has outlined on his website. I'm confident his experience will be invaluable and well worth his fees.

I will check with him on the lift when he gets back to me.

Man, this lift is awesome..... Any idea in us funds what this beast sells for in europe? I sure hope it can be had here in the usa. This lift looks practical, functional, and it sure looks better than any lift I have seen. It is portable and looks sleek. I am impressed. I never thought I would get a woody looking at a lift. hehehe

I have a contact in Maarkedal, Belgium who I buy Porsche parts from. He’s going to try to get ahold of someone at Finkbeiner in Freudenstadt, Germany tomorrow and find out about availability and cost.

Below is something I’ve cut and pasted about the lift.
Car lift with detachable travelling handle and 2 rollers, easy to move by one person. No fixing on the floor required. Universal use for repair and maintenance at the vehicle, indoors and outdoors. Comfortable working by optimum large lifting height giving best vision and free access to any part of the vehicle. There are no inconventient crossbars underneath the vehicle, doors can be opened at any lifting height. The lift is driven by a electro-hydraulic power unit, 2 hydraulic cylinders lifting the load arms up to a height of 1840 mm. The direct acting cylinders are totally covered and impervious to moisture, dirt and sand, with the minimum of wear and maintenance. Thus the lift can be used also for washing.

I would expect the lift to be at least $7000. to $8000, I just hope it's not something like $15,000.

My only thought is, that it depends on what sort of work you do most, and how you envision yourself using the lift.

Compared to a "conventional" scissor style lift, it obviously has superior under car access for exhaust work, driveline work, rear suspension, etc.

However, it would appear to have pretty substantial limitation on front suspension and brake access. As pictured, you would have to reach out over the lift...not a very convenient way to work. I guess you could always put the car on there backwards to work on the front?

That's a very good point. The part of the lift you would have to reach over is 12" tall. I'm not sure how far in you would have to reach in to get to say a wheel.

I think the two post lifts are best but they take up so much space and my new garage will only be 24' x 26'.

I've considered a Nussbaum Jumbo NT too which is a full rise scissors lift which can be recessed into the floor.

And last but not least I'm looking into a Rotary Smart lift, that's there inground model, but it still has the lifting arms on the floor.

Ron, have you looked into a single sided lift? I think Rotary makes one, but I'm not sure. My buddy was looking at them at one time before he bought his Rotary Assymetrical 10k lift.

Rotary sells Finkbeiner here in the U.S., but not that portable unit. I will be with the National sales team in Vegas this weekend...and I'll check to see what their thoughts are on importing this model. (Probably slim to none, but I'll ask...)

Reasons they won't do it (that I can think of off hand)...Cost...(dollar low against the Euro adds extra $$), Lack of marketability....(Mohawk has a similar lift that was discontinued becuse of low sales), and last...but not least...the cost of getting it certified for sale in the US market...($20K minimum)...

I got a quote on a Rotary 10,000 lbs. inground smartlift. It is $6800 plus $2000 for installation. But they have not seen the location, 25 feet from the marsh. Very high water table.

The TT is neither small or sporty...lets see if a real sports car can fit on that, try a Lotus Elise or a Dino, you know the kind of cars that have no ground clearance.

By the way, I am not knocking the TT, its a nice car, good handling car, nice looking, etc. but to call it a sports car is a major stretch, just because the top comes off does not make it a sports car.
