Hello all,
I cant even imagine the total hours Ive spent on this site looking at everyones builds, and now I get to finally have my own! We are building a 30x64x16 pole barn that will be a shop and gym. This will be fully insulated with heat. There is one overhead insulated 16x14 door. We are planning on adding a 30x16 loft in one end as a mancave/hangout spot. Im currently working out of a detached and oversized 2 car but it is far too small. I also have a storage barn that was a run in shed on the property when we bought it that I since converted to storage/tractor parking. We purchased our barn kit from Menards in Cheyenne, WY and everything so far has been perfect and the price could not of been beat(bought it with an 11% rebate). Their online estimator is awesome, and I was able to get the exact barn I was looking for. We are adding our own windows and eventually some lean-to additions. My wife and I are heavily into Subarus, which will be what I primarily work on in the shop. I also love old tractors, having a few fords in the past and now an International 2606 industrial that I want to restore.

Nice looking build and beautiful country. I too have spent far too many hours on this forum to not have built anything. Hopefully that will change when the government is through with me. Is that an 8N with the blade behind it? How many acres you sitting on?

We have 35 acres. That was my 8n, it is now owned by a friend who lives somewhat close by. I would love to get another, Im sure one will follow me home one day. Here is the tractor that replaced her, 62' International 2606 Industrial. I will be restoring the tractor and loader. Ive used it to build a driveway down to my storage barn and do some mowing with a 7' rough cut. Thing is unstoppable... till it runs out of gas.

Has your municipality signed off on the upstairs bathroom?
Our code allows for only one in an unattached building.

The loft addition and interior finishing havnt been submitted yet as I will be completing those over a period of time. We are zoned ag which allows us to have an additional residence on our property so I have made some(probably poor) assumptions.

Like the look of that 2606. Grew up bush-hogging on a diesel Ford 801 Powermaster that I'm planning on taking off my dad's hands one day if it's not rusted down. Best of luck to you.

That is crazy. What does it matter how many bathrooms are in your building. These codes are out of hand. I can get if you live in town or a rural subdivision possibly limiting the size of a garage, but limiting it to 1 bathroom seems crazy. Am I missing some logical reasoning behind this?

And, is that a two-post lift the automobile is sitting between? Should be plenty of room for one.

Nice tractor, I have its earlier cousin the 460 utility. Also with 221cid I-6. Wagner tube loader. Once the governor cracks open something's going somewhere

My suggestion is that if drawn to-scale, I think the bay with the dually is too narrow. Doesn't look like the doors could be easily opened. Also the "****" looks like it would fit thru the door with 2" to spare on each side. Not a good way to keep the fender flares in good shape

That will be the mechanical/utility/storage room, tried to find some objects that best represented my plans.

I agree, i put that in there to get an idea of the max size I could fit, will probably try to push the width as much as I can. I was hoping to maintain a descent slope on the roof while maintaining a small space above it so the loft can still have small windows, if that makes sense.

That is a two post lift, Im looking to get a 10k minimum. No reason to go small with my 16ft walls! And yes, the loft will have windows facing west, south and north.

This was part of the assumptions that I made. My county codes for initially building the structure were pretty lenient. If I have to make changes I would be quite surprised, but I will see when I get to that point. Dealing with the county has been nothing but easy and smooth so far, very friendly/helpful bunch.

The limit is so the outbuilding doesn't become a "house". This has to do with zoning and land use requirements. Property zoned as single family housing isn't single family if there are two family dwellings. I'm glad they at least compromised so you can have a shower in your shop or provided for a one person rental apartment.

I can't say that I understand it still. I guess in the area I am from zoning and building codes were basically non existent for a long time. We have lots that have been divided into 3 or 4 different lots, and mobile homes put on. The county here basically didn't care as long as they got their tax money. I think some of this may have been clamped down in town now.

OP glad to hear that you are probably living in a pretty relaxed area. Hopefully everything goes smooth, and you can accomplish your build out however you like.
