Riley: the damn caster tray for your roller might weigh as much as your tool boxes so i bet you can use it for the house's foundation if that fails with all the weight you've been adding lately.

it's fun buying stuff with other members money, but i wish i was stronger or this stuff was lighter. bring plenty of protection for your car's seats, but i know you've move a few things this size so i'll leave that in your capable hands.

you'll have it in your paws tomorrow and hope you like it as well in person.

00: well at least that box probably will NEVER TIP OVER. :D

if that is your box how about a few pictures and details?

ALL: it was a ROAD TRIP kinda day for me. i left my house at 2am to avoid traffic and find Riley at work (I swear the guy never sleeps and he's always smiling). ok at that time of day traffic is good if i can avoid the drunks. did i jinx myself cause about 20 miles into a 700 mile drive today some guy (or gal) in a truck passes me going the wrong direction at 70 mph on my side of the freeway. woke my *** right up and when i called the guy at 911 (state patrol) he had issues with his north and south so i think i woke him up. anyway i didn't hear of anybody getting killed but OMG this has happened to me about 6 times in my life. happened to any of you when you have a trailer and Honda full of toolboxes?

I think Riley was happy, but since he smiles all the time i'm not sure so i'll let him post pictures.

Smokeshow also talked me out of one of my keepers so I'll let him post pictures and say.

i'm back home and relaxing reading GJ and not in a hurry anytime soon to take a road trip starting at 2am.

Well maybe I have been told I do have a silver tongue[emoji16] drives was kind enough to help me score one of my unicorns today ! He sold me a plvmb top box #9998 which I have been after forever [emoji16] he made me promise I would keep the patina and I agree for this box , I will! My plans are to degrease the box, straighten the drawers and slides and then use it to store my extra plomb! I will also line it with cork for extra old school points! Can't believe it is finally mine! This guy is a lot heavier than it looks as well! It even came with the key! I do need slides for it so if someone has a pressteel made box from the same time period they may work. They made plomb and craftsman heritage boxes at the same time

Did Drives mention I got to touch that Plomb box?!? I tried to talk him into sending it home with me, but he reminded me I have no room for it - either in my Camry, which was just loaded with a Craftsman red/gray stack - or in my already packed garage.

Grats on a rare box!

If you took that home I would be pissed [emoji3] you already have one similar [emoji1] I figured you probably saw it! I would have liked to see your new stack but understand that drives was on a mission! That guy is top notch!(or maybe he is a top enabler???[emoji23]) again thanks to drives for hooking Brian and I up! Drives if you need some goodness from Oregon to come your way , don't hesitate to ask us to return the favor!

00: thanks and i'll be on the lookout for that box. keep the lakes free of MILL FOIL and i'll be over one of these summers soon to take another swim like i did 45 years ago and maybe stop for a visit with something from the WET SIDE of the PNW to swap or sell you to improve your vintage tool collection.

Riley: you can tell Smoke you didn't try TOO HARD to talk me out of the Plvmb box other than you had it in your hands and said it would be easier for you to load it in your car rather than putting it down and getting your top box in my Honda. you looked great for meeting me so dang early in the morning. we'll have to this again sometime soon and i'll bring some good ice tea and a few jars of Pesto and fresh raspberry freezer jam.

hope you like the boxes and the owner mentioned that if your floor was perfectly flat and smooth the casters would work great and if not you might want to change them to the other ones he provided. good luck

SMOKE: does it get any better meeting GJ members we've been chatting on here for years standing in a parking lot with 70 degree PNW sunshine and a cool old Plvmb box in front of us? these drives really take it out of me these days so hopefully you, Riley and some of the other great members in your area will stop up at my place when i get ORGANIZED or anytime cause there's always a cold ice tea or beer in the fridge.

i'm glad you like it and i'm sure i'll be searching and hoping to find another one tomorrow. best of luck on the clean up and finding a few missing parts, but it's pretty much all there and not too much rust for being maybe 80 years old.

take care and nice finally meeting you in person!!

ALL: well I know i'm going to post one of my new box finds soon, but until then I hope you all have a great day with yours and maybe you can help me find a replacement for my missing PLVMB box.

I knew better than to push too hard on that box. And thanks for the kind comment on my appearance. After a few years of waking up at 2 AM, I hope I'm used to it!

In the midst of everything I forgot to congratulate you as well on scoring a good box! I want to know how the heck you got that into a camry? Are you a champion tetris player? Only think I could think of was maybe you removed the passenger seat and back seat?

Early last year, when I bought my first red/gray roller, I learned that I could fit a roller through the back door and lay on its side in the back seat. To date, I have fit 5 rollers in the back seat of my car - a 2000 Camry which you have seen, I believe. After 302k miles, I am not overly careful with it - but I always keep cardboard in the car to keep the seats clean.

This weekend I will be replacing the rear struts and springs that will hopefully bring the rear-end level with the front.

Back in the first week of February, my wife took me to the air museum in McMinnville for my birthday. We stopped at an antique store on the way home and found a Plomb chest on a home-made roller that we somehow fit into her 2015 Camry without causing any damage.

It's amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it!

SMOKE: Riley also didn't ask for any help from me to put it in his car and i almost had to keep him from carrying the roller without any casters to his Camry that had it's door on the other side of my trailer. i did get in the front seat to help keep the cardboard from bunching up, but i bet RILEY could have done it himself. if it wasn't pitch black and 5am and i could actually see his face and his confidence i would have maybe just watched in amazement as it fit inside his little car which it did and he still was able to put in a top box too.

BTW i'm still missing the PLVMB and i won't hold you to keeping the PATINA unless you are someday planning on selling it back to me which i guess might be a possibility.

RILEY
: do you NEED ANOTHER CRAFTSMAN ROLLER?

Of course not!

Do I want one? Is it a red/gray (other than the common 3 drawer) or heritage era roller? Of course I want another. I have an entire wall to fill!

Brian

I might know someone who has a heritage roller who would be interested in trading for a proto la box someone has either now or sometime in the future if you ever decided to let it go [emoji41]

Fowl: looks like good trading FODDER in case you get it and don't have room on your bench for it. i wish the prior owner didn't paint it red, but I do like how clean it is and the tools look pretty well kept too.

cheers

RILEY: enjoy the HUNT and save a heritage top and bottom for me. or maybe i'll swap you for your Proto box if i can recall which one you own.

I finished stripping the paint of this old Snap On I picked up a couple of weeks ago. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Obviously a little rough, but I like the patina better than the crappy spray bomb

Picked up this Huot this morning at a flea market...

The green is not original. Whoever sprayed it green opened each of the drawers about half way. The other half of each drawer is red. And I'm not even sure that's original. I need to search or page back and look at the other Huot's posted. 50's? 60's? Later? Frankly, I may not even mess with it. I like the vintage look of it, but this is outside my collecting niche. Strictly a 'function over form' purchase.

Nice find. IIRC, in 1964-65, Huot painted them gray or blue. I worked for an auto parts in high school. Neumeyer Motor Parts was a big distributor then, and carried Huot. I lusted after that box every time I went there to pick up parts.

Remove the side handles. Maybe they left the original color behind them.

If not, Hout boxes of that era were either red or a light blue/grey color.

Nice find no matter what color it is.

Honza, that's a nice find and in incredible shape IMO. According to my logo list logo is late 20's...

However, the (power tools) catalogs don't support the Craftsman trademark being used earlier than 1933. Other records/claims say as craftsman was used as early as 31?
Possibly the hand tools used it earlier? :dunno:

It seems like lately I find some PowrKraft tool at every sale. Today was no different. The box had some paint issues but cleaned right up.
