Take your pet truck to work day was hauling clean wood recycling to the transfer station. All green and ****.

Just for Strouty, I washed the whole truck, and now all the defects show:eyecrazy:
And, I noticed just how much I needed to switch out the bumper from the other truck.
1st though, I had to POR15 the backside of the bumper cuz it was all rusty and ****.

Luckily for me Tool,
My neighbors are all pretty cool.
Except for one, and I've already told him where to go, where to get off, and where to stick it!

Update: He brought beers to my house and sat around my fire pit and we all laughed about it.

I really am lucky with my neighbors.

Decision made, directive given......

My son is coming home from college. He'll be driving his '85 MR2 from Reno to Seattle. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=249106

The realization that we don't have room for another vehicle in our yard means one of the trucks has to go. I have 'til May 19th to get what I want out of the 1st truck, then make it go away.

This should make the neighbors happy. Speaking of neighbors, they all seemed to want to stop by and chat this afternoon. To the point of slowing me down as I tried to swap out the Holmes bumper.

I set it up a little differently than on the 1st truck. Originally, I wanted it nice and clean and tight to the body. Now, I want the option to put the grill guard on so I pulled it out a little farther from the grill, and raised it up a bit.

That meant I needed to drill new holes in the mount, and the frame.
OTsB

I managed to get it hanging on by a couple of bolts, but need to get it completely bolted up and aligned before I go back on the road.

Flatbeds are great for portable benches. I like the bumper, it will also give you the ability to push dead cars around.

Mini Poll: With or with out?

I like the grill guard. It's period correct, historical, and just kind of heavy duty bad ***.

I also like the clean look of the grill w/o the guard.

I'm on the fence right now. Any thoughts:dunno:

Thanks for the input FR8, Drives and jwsia.

I'm thinking with the guard it looks a little more rural, and with out the guard a bit more metro/urban.

Not sure yet what this country boy living in the city will choose.

jwsia,
Post up a pic of your truck!

Along with the mini poll, I have a mini rant: Tried to switch tires on the trucks this evening and broke my only 1-1/16" socket. I hate idiots that impact lug nuts too tight. Now I have two trucks down until I can pick up another socket tomorrow.

One thing I hadn't noticed before was the trucks had different size tires. The fronts on the dump were terrible, and in the unsafe range. The other truck had cheap tires, but they're in better shape. Either way, I'll get to postpone tire purchases for a bit by switching them out.

Grill guard makes it look like a tow truck
No grill guard makes it looks like a Bonneville / Racetrack push truck

Pick the look you're after. My vote is no grill guard.

Riv: you know i like big steel almost anything and after thinking more about my comment on the NO GUARD i think maybe painting your guard a HAMMERED SILVER might move my thinking to KEEPING THE GUARD.

YOUR TRUCK YOUR COLOR I think is the unwritten rule so it's really about what you like.

cheers

Thanks again for all the responses.

Drives, I'm glad I'm not ready to pick colors yet. I think that will be the hardest part.

Terra Nova, I think I like the whole Bonneville / Racetrack push truck theme.
I may have to head that direction. Going with the smaller front tires has given the truck a little rake and a slightly different attitude.

I'm still going to let the grill guard stay for now, it's only 5 bolts to remove it.

I'm looking forward to Friday, as the new under bed mount tool boxes are scheduled for delivery. Hopefully they don't dent all the corners before I get them picked up.

Thanks HD

No, really. After UPS banged my last order up(the gas tank), I tried Home Depot's shipping.

I could have bought these tool boxes on Amazon, or Zoro, but I liked the idea of them being shipped to my local store instead of my house.

We've had a number of packages go missing off of front porches lately.

No damage to the boxes. Maybe it was the stickers:
fKUh

My next decision will be to mount them to the frame or the dump bed. It will be easier to mount them to the underside of the bed, but they'll go up with the bed.

a little more work to mount them to the frame, but they won't tip with the bed.

Riv: your call on the guard and paint or no paint. just like it's your call on tool boxes. if i had tools in those boxes like i'm thinking you will i don't think i'd want them banging around every time i used my dump. it looks like you are going to use the dump a lot so maybe a little extra work on the frame under it for your new toolboxes might be a nice upgrade too.

how's it running?

Exactly. Plus it'll give him a place to strap his hostages when he is chasing the tanker truck.

Now we're talk'n!

Drives,
Truck is running very well.
I've taken it to work the last couple days and put it to work.
I am looking for a hydraulic repair shop to fix the cylinder leak so I can use the dump.

Any referrals in the N Seattle area?

For some reason, I am thinking about The Dukes of Hazard and a truck Cooter would drive. Not that this is a bad thing, as long as you don't wear the Daisy Duke shorts.

HOTFR8,

That's a great looking front end! Love the color combo. Clean, clean, clean!!!

Strouty,
Let's leave the Daisy Dukes on Daisy Duke.
Nobody here is going to do them justice !

I'm sure there is something closer but when I worked for a construction company one summer we always took our hydraulic jobs to MEB Manufacturing in Everett with good results.

Just my opinion, but the grill guard and the push bumper look to be about the same height which is keeping things roughly "in proportion" on the front end right now.
To me, removing the grill guard is going to leave the front end with just too much push bumper. With only a push bumper, I'd be going for a bumper about 1/2 that height (Or about the same height as a stock chrome bumper).
YMMV, and I mean no disrespect. I like that truck a lot!
