Copper Rose for Mothers day

I have to admit I have not been great about gifts etc. for my wife on Mothers Day, this year I decided that I should step up and get her something that is really cool, but I'm cheap so I decided that a hand made gift would be better.

Back in the day I made flowers out of metal, honestly I have not done this since High School, which for me is good since I have never given any to my wife.

Scouting around the shop I came across a bunch of copper tube I had picked up at a garage sale last summer, I have no plans for the tube so I was not going to miss a few feet.

Here is the video of the build, sorry it's a bit late but if you wish to use the idea in the future here ya go.

They are very easy to make.

I need to work on the pattern a bit and if I were to make more I think I would go for copper sheet, as much fun as it was to beat the hell out of the copper to thin it out it was way to time consuming for more than 1 or 2.

OKay this may have just bit me in the ***, wife posted it up on one of her groups and the requests are flooding in.

I need to find a way to make these faster and still be able to call them hand made/forged.

At this point the only idea I have is to use copper sheet so I do not have to thin down the material with the hammer, I can still use the hammer for texture.

Open to any and all ideas for speeding things up.

Thinking it through I would have to get it down to around 1/2 an hour per unit for a price point around $35

Sheets of copper, do all the prep to the whole sheet before you cut it out.
Use a air nipper to do the pattern cut outs.
Solder instead of braze.
Use a air hammer with a blunt end on it to give it the hammered look.

You could also do thin brass sheets and mix it in with the copper would add a touch of color.

I think you may be going about this from the wrong direction. If you start mass producing them they'll loose their cool factor and it'll be an awful lot like work.

I say price the heck out of them, only make a handful and move on to something else.

That was my plan, make 50 or so and move on.

That looks great.

I made a couple like that years ago. One thing I found to making them look more real was to have the bottom layers a bit bigger/longer, tapering down to smaller at the top. This way the petals all meet near the top. Kinda hard to explain.

Actually, might be a good idea to buy a real rose and trace the individual petals. A perfect replica of the real thing in metal.
