ALL: i didn't blow up that old picture, but for some of you that own one isn't that a Prentiss #58 8 inch 240 pounder sitting on that bench?

Looking for some opinions what to price this vise at on my local CL (2 hours west of Chicago). I was thinking it should sell for around $150 with the stand an new re-sale red paint job (I had a half a can laying around) but I'm not finding values on this model of vise on auction sites. YOur input is appreciated.
Hello All!
Does anyone know when Morgan quit production in "Chicago"?
Thanks!

1NRO: are you saying the vises are not staying cause you can't leave them standing in front of the fireplace or are you selling them? can you go in you GJ profile and either put in city/state, state or part of the world you live in. i'd say England or NEW ENGLAND by the style of fireplace, but can't say for sure.
SellI'm not much good at selling
I live in England Uk, edge of the lake district.
Sorry but I don't see $150 there. At least not in my area.
I would say $40-$50 for the vise and maybe $20 for the stand.

Nice ball vice, not so easy to come by them.

Found this tiny 1 3/4" jaw clamping vise this morning. No stampings/casting marks that I can see, but it looks fairly old and is well made. It wasn't abused at all unlike any of the other small vises I've ever come across. I paid about $4.25/pound....good thing it's only about 3 1/2 pounds
I'm making about an hour drive out to the boonies to look at a few bench vices and bench grinders....hoping I find some treasures!

That looks like an early Stanley.
They are stamped on the top of the slide. Use some elbow grease and see if anything is stamped there. My guess is either an early 672 or 772.
---They have a unique swivel base tightening system, but at 11.8 lbs., they're not good for much but a set of book ends.
I second that some very nice scores.Awesome stuff VISEs.![]()

And it also has a swivel, which the 98 does not...still a nice looking vise.

Grabbed a Parker 975 from the same guy...filthy, but still solid.

Same guy also sold me a Mousehole Forge 146lb anvil as well (has both British Hundredweight and pounds stamped on it): From my research on the markings, it's likely 1870s.

Yikes! Looks like a shark was chewing on that anvil!
Nice vises!

Looks just like one I saw yesterday posted on the Youngstown CL.
It is a Dropfo (as in Drop Forged). It is missing the swivel base.
The vises were made by The Fulton Drop Forge Company of Canal Fulton, Ohio. (Are there no end to the Fultons in ViseLand?)
There is a previous one in post #15390 of this thread. VISEs also posted one recently (what doesn't he have???)
I believe bl00 has posted an ad for them a couple of times (maybe not bl00, maybe VA or someone else), but there are two different ads for them in here somewhere.

I've never seen a Craftsman Machinist Vise in person, so I was excited to buy this model 506-51830. Seems very well made with clean machining and close fitting parts. The jaws look practically new!

Looks pretty minty! I ran across my first one of these this weekend as well, though I think mine is the smaller one. I haven't unloaded it yet from my truck, pouring rain here yesterday.
Thanks for posting the catalog page, need to order a swivel base for mine.![]()

Knowing craftsman, you'll get the new chinese version of it...While you have them on the phone with the swivel base order, ask them how they handle the Lifetime Warranty with that vise [emoji481]
Nice. I've got a 119lb M&H Armitage Mousehole that dates to the 1820's. Mousehole anvils have a lot of mass under the face, and I think it feels like a heavier anvil when working on it. Chisel and awl marks can be cool on the side of the anvil. I prefer thinking it was used for work rather than some jackass with a temper was messing with it. Are you planning on keeping it?
