That is the flashing strobe light that is used with an on the car spinner. Hunter had a similar one that worked fairly well. Not much use on newer cars with front wheel drive as you cannot spin one wheel at a time. In use you would spin the wheel and look at the wheel as it was flashing and install weight opposite of wherever part of wheel was at the bottom while spinning. A lot of trial and error that the off car balance machines take care off. This used to be a problem because a lot of brake drums were out of balance and causing vibration problems after wheel was balanced.

I use to use those back in the 1960's. There was a sensor that looked something like a small jack stand that touched the bottom of the A arm. There was a powered roller that spun the tire up to speed. Each time the heavy side of the wheel/tire came around to the bottom it pushed the A arm down slightly which caused the sensor to trigger the strobe light to show where the heavy side of the tire was. It was the "on the car" alternative to the bubble balancer that was common then. Spin balancers made both of those obsolete.

So what became of this unit...? Is it still hiding in someone's garage? From the picture the primary electronics appear to have been removed, but the pick-up assembly appears to still be there. I suspect there are people out there (like me) who would be interested to obtain a unit such as this for spare parts to support our working units. Thanks!

Hello - new member here. I was actually looking for more info one the unit pictured as I have one complete that has a working strobe and all. I have on ebay but the amount of questions and back and forth is killing me. It is for sell if someone is still interested.
