Search part number 98820-1VGA. What do you guys think? How bad can it be? Ive read the HR reviews and think this is prolly a good deal. Is this box the same as the other US General boxes? Cool forum by the way. Thanks

I need something in my basement for my tools down there. I added this to the shopping cart, but have to fill out a bunch of info to get to the stage where they'd show me the shipping cost. Anyone get that far to see what shipping is? How about the bottom chest...anyone have the part number for that so I can see if it is similarly priced?

Looks like they might just have a bunch of the top boxes, couldnt find a link for just the bottom box while searching for us general but here is the combo price. 98824-0VGA

Its really odd searching on there site, without the OP item number i cant even find that deal searching for us general.

Yeah, I just found the combo price, too...a whopper at $800 when compared to this top box deal of under $90. :headscrat

You can find the OPs deal just by typing "tool chest" into their search box and it's on page 1 of the results.

But I agree, they must have a bunch of these and are trying to blow some out. If shipping is not too bad I might jump on it.

I would prefer to get a vintage Craftsman box for downstairs, but can't find any locally.

I was curious and i think i read it was $75 account overweight + like 10.99 for falling into the under $100 shipping chart.

I already ordered one and it will be here tomarrow. It was 75 bucks for the shipping to WI. I cant believe they didnt make a mistake... the regular price is 349. I hope that print peels off easy enuf. Also I see that this box is only rated for 550 lbs while the other boxes are like 850lbs. Oh well for the price who cares?

No experience with that box so I'm not making any value judgements about it... but I find it mildly hilarious that HF's Chinese box has a bald eagle and US flag emblazoned across the drawers.

Guess they're trying to placate some of the anti-Asian sentiment against their products.

You mean, from you? And, what is the price difference between the two?

For a basement tool box, I don't see how this one could possibly fail in my lifetime, if it is anything like the other HF boxes that people have reviewed.

I don't like the eagle and flag on it, though. It's too ironic, having American symbols on a foreign box.

Well, then you just signed up to do a full review, with pictures, right?

And how the heck will it be there by tomorrow? That's insanely fast.

Im sure they sell Anti American static clings to cover the flag and eagle. A bit strong, I agree.

Do they have any good deals on Air compressors??:bounce:

Actually, though, according to the Wikipedia page (not a source I love to use) HF is an American owned, privately held company.

Is this an online only offer or are you able to get the same deal at the store?

I used the OP's item number and at the top of the page it says" internet only item " so I would guess by that you cant just walk into your local store and get it for that price . I would try it if it was 4-5 years ago when I was dropping money in there like crazy and the manager liked to see me LOL. I did get my compressor for the internet price 5 years ago but like I said the manager liked seeing me walk through the door :D.

Bull,

All "oversized" items have $75 shipping, plus the variable shipping based on the price. It does not matter if it is being shipped 6 miles or 600, the price is the same.

From HF...

7. Shipping Chart
* up to $14.99........$6.99
* $15.00 to $34.99....$7.99
* $35.00 to $69.99..$8.99
* $70.00 to $99.99..$9.99
* $100.00 to $129.99..$10.99
* $130.00 and up..$11.99
* Items marked "Overweight Item", subject to a $75.00 additional Freight Charge, per Overweight Item.

$87.57 + $84.99 shipping (+ tax if you live in one of the 44 states HF is in), only an OK deal in my book.

Manager still likes to see me at the local HF, but nothing he could do to bring one up on any of his screens. He thought it "might" be possible to get at the retail store attached to the warehouse in Camarillo, but no way get free shipping to the local store.

That seems like a good price, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't compare to their regular 41" top chest 92099-1VGA. Different dimensions, different capacity. I really want two of their 41" roller cabinets, but that's because I've checked them out in the store. It will be interesting to see what is said about these.

This one?

If so, check out this thread where it was seen in a paper sale ad for $339 (and you may be able to use a 20% off coupon). I've outgrown my Craftsman 3 piece and this would fit the bill for me.

Got my box today. Im pretty excited, its nicer than I expected it to be. I paid
172.56 with shipping and didnt have to leave the house. Im pretty sure its the exact same box as the 349.99 ones. I dont know why its rated at less weight cap. Needless to say Im glad I didnt buy the craftsman version of this box, the HF box blows it away. Ill post a review with pics soon. Also that eagle sticker comes off easy. Its gray powder coated underneath.

Bull.. Id buy one if I were you. I have zero regrets about purchasing this box.
Is it as nice as my Kennedy? Nope no way. It is way nicer than the boxes they sell at sears for 4x the cost. Little things that **** about the HF box are the lock is cheesy, you can see where the spot welds show through the outer skin,they forgot to weld a seam on the lid( very small about an inch long). The slides are really nice , the box is well constructed and a good deal for the price.

I've bought a bunch of stuff from HF, mostly smaller items. There are a great many things I wouldn't think of buying, but for stuff I almost never use (specialty items, etc.) I just can't pass up the price.
I get a couple of emails a week and a couple of print catalogs a month, plus about every 2 months I'll get the sale flyer for the retail stores.
HF prices change constantly, if you want to buy from them and you can wait awhile, just watch all this **** and you'll find a deal on what you want.
For example; a couple of years ago I bought several sets of cleaning brushes, each set had 3 kinds of brushes; nylon, brass and steel bristles. So there where 6 brushes about 6/7" long and three more, one of each kind that where about 9" long. When I ordered them they where 99 cents each. A couple of weeks after that I was in the retail store in Omaha standing behind a guy in line that was buying some of the same brushes, they where $3.49!
I've had one of their vertical compressors for about 2 1/2 years and so far no problems. It's the one they now have in their catalog for $249 (I think), 17 gallons and 3 hp. I bought it at the store for $99 and it's great for the money. In my experience HF is just like Sears with their pricing, just Sears isn't quite as extreme.
Another HF experience was: I bought a set of their crowfoot wrenches, the first one I used broke instantly with hardly any pressure, I called and they sent a new set right away. They didn't want the other set back. The key with HF seems to be if their stuff fails you have to get on them right away and they're pretty good about it.

Welp, once again I wish that, for a few hours, I lived in Cali to grab one of these deals.
