That looks really nice. how weather resistant are the sliding doors? does the wind blow in under them? once again it looks great, i love the ceiling. i will be doing that to my interior wall where i do my metal fab.

The doors will be somewhat weather resistant, I'll got some ideas on how to weatherstrip them but haven't gotten to that yet. I'll be using brush type weatherstrip at the bottom & top and rubber bulb/strip for the other areas.

If you're building a working garage the tin might not be the best idea for the walls, it dents pretty easily. The corrugated I'm using for the ceiling is 30 gauge and a typical outdoor roof is 29 gauge. If on the other hand you're building a showdog the tin would probably work.

Thanks for looking,
Mike

OK, I had a slight change of plans with the paint. I had painted the building with flat paint and every time you touched it, it would leave a mark. One of the painters that was here to give me a quote to paint the upper area suggested I apply one coat of satin paint over the flat to eliminate the problem. I had the painter out to paint the high walls (I hate heights) and my wife had him paint the rest at the same time. I still need to paint the trim but it's looking pretty good.
Here's a few photos.

Saturday two friends came over and we got the remainder of the corrugated tin installed. I need to finish putting in all of the fasteners and I've got some wiring to complete in the back corner but basically it's all up.
BTW, there is trim to cover the edges of the metal to finish it.
I really like it.
Thanks for looking,
Mike

Mike,

Where did you source the corrugated tin? It looks like those are the normal 26" wide strips?

Maybe he got them at Home Depot...that's where I got my 26"x8' long pieces.

The metal at Lowes near me was in really rough shape, the HD stuff was pristine.

Elvee,
I got all of the tin from "Back Home Exterior Products" in Grayson, Ga. It does come in 26" wides but the cool part is you order the exact length you need. My short panels (the high ceiling) were 65" long and the lower ones are 138" long. I didn't have to cut them and didn't have any scrap.

To everyone else thanks for the kind words, it's a really good feeling to know I'm close to being finished.
Have a great 4th of July!

I believe he got it at a place called "Back Home Metal Roofing" in Grayson. I liked them cause they would cut the material for you to size... As I remember it was a little cheaper too.

Here's the easy way to put the holes in the trim. I rigged a simple stand for my Whitney punch and laid out my holes on six inch centers.

I also got the blades installed on all of the ceiling fans. The fans move a lot of air and they're controlled by four separate switches so I can turn off one in the area where I'm welding.
Thanks for looking,
Mike

That's looking great - when do the lights go up?

The lights will get wired and hung pretty soon. I've had an offer of help this weekend so we'll do something that two people make easier. Probably build & hang the door for the compressor shed and frame the porch roof.

Garages are like hot rods - don't save the receipts! Fantastic building. The ceiling treatment is completely trick. Very well done.

Are you going to paint anything differently on the outside? I was wondering if the trim or faux windows might get white trim paint?

Thanks,

Neil

Neil,
I'm working on painting the trim this weekend. It'll match the windows (they're vinyl so I'll never have to paint them) up top, kinda a beige or tan color.

Thanks to all of you for the complements, I've put a ton'o time in this building.

I'm not laughing.

My wife's a CPA and I guarantee she has a better idea how much I've got in this build than I do.

I gotta tell you this thou, she called me one day at work and said "You know that shop you've been wanting to build?"
Me: Yes.
Her: I think you should go ahead and build it.
After I got off the floor I agreed.

She's a keeper!

Mike... do you have any updates with pics?? Have you gotten your lift and lights installed yet?? Wonderful build!

I've got the lights (using the T5-HO's) up and they are great! I've also gotten a lot of the trim painted and a few other small details done.
Sorry, I've been really slack on my updates lately.
Thanks for asking,
Mike

Once again it's time for another update. Seems like finishing is taking forever, but I'm getting there.
I've got a bunch of photos to post today.
First up is the exterior with the trim painted, the next one are the lights inside.

Here's a few of the lift. The package was 1875 lbs and each column is over 700 lbs. They were a bear to stand up.

Very nice. Thanks for the updates, yours is one of my favorite builds.

I can't quite tell from the first pic on your update--how did the carport in the back turn out?

d110 - love the ceiling look ! - they pick up the socket system pieces really well. Reminds me of a a hotel we stayed in Sri Lanka a few years ago called The Tea Factory....lots of corrugated there, too.

...my sister lives in Canton - next time I'm over maybe I can see your handywork - but I'll be avoiding the summer months ! - way too hot for me !
