I got a vise, or parts of it!.. The handle and the bolt is not there, but the rest is and I just took it a part. Looks like there is a "shuttle" made of gold with top and bottom broken with threads falling a part. and the rest what is there is in pretty good shape. Looks as it is not cast iron, because it has been heavy hammered on it, but takes in the hammering!..The whole slide is not lose, but slides pretty good. the jaws are like welded in, or pressed in on L shape ledge, and there are some numbers and name on it. "GENERAL" is the make, and 104 on the one jaw. The body seems to have a plaque with "C222" on it, and on the "shuttle" the threaded part that is like gold!.. I know it is brass, there are numbers 8 1(or Y) 2 and further 50. I wonder if anyone knows what make is this, who made it... and(!) if anyone has the shuttle with shaft in good shape for that?.. Any help would be appreciated!...
I am in Canada in Quesnel area in the bush!.. Takes me 2hrs in good road condition 4x4 to get to town. So tools count here like gold!.. There is no time to run to get a broken tool when you need it!.. Help, if you can, please.

Albin,

Welcome Sir! Give it some time and the real experts will chime in regarding this vise and photo issues. To clarify, you are using post reply with the paperclip attachment.....not quick reply ?

If you have some irreplaceable parts you can always hang onto the good parts and make a long term project of finding the missing ones.

I'll research your vise and let you know....Shawn

Albin,

Welcome to the group.
First: If you live 2 hours, by 4 x 4 when conditions are good, from civilization; I wish I lived where you are.
Second: if you press the [Go Advanced] button, then press the [Managed Attachments] button, you should be able to follow through with attaching pictures.
Third: You may want to ask your question on the Vise repair 101 thread (in Vintage Tool Discussion), ot the Vises of Garage Journal thread (in General Tool Discussion).

Cheers

Albin - welcome! Everyone here will tell you that we can help you much much more with pics. If you have a mac simply import the pics to your desktop. Get a free Photobucket account, upload your photo by dragging and dropping, then click on the photo you want to attach, copy (on the right) the "IMG" address, and "Paste" it into your GJ message. I know it sounds complicated but do it once and you'll realize it's easy.

Now for your vise (and others are far more experts than I): "General" is made in Canada. "General Int'l" is Chinese. I will assume your's is Canadian. You might have luck sourcing parts or you might get some suggestions here on how to fabricate the handle, etc - but pics will help! Good luck!

Beautiful home and welcome to GJ!

As for your vise, I would recommend posting questions and pictures in the "Vises of Garage Journal" thread. You will likely find yourself overwhelmed with comments and questions there.

There are many members here who use their smart phones primarily to access GJ. If they are like me, they will likely miss this thread because they use the "Participated" column to look through threads that they are most interested in. I don't look at GJ on my PC until late in the evening.

Here's a link.

The main nut is ruptured and by the looks of it, it may have damaged the vise body when it was violently ripped out of the slot. I would carefully inspect the inside of the vise body before dumping time and money into this vise.
