FYI - Seville Cabinet Pricing at Sam's Club vs. Sears Sold Brands

Thought I'd also provide some "relative" price comparison with similar garage cabinets I looked at on-line. While not necessarily exactly "apples to apples" in terms of all features (aka, # of shelves, ~metal gauge, all construction details, etc.), I thought the significant difference in price was worth mentioning. Obviously, appearance and feature set vs. price point are personal preferences

Here are some comparisons between the Seville Classic 6ft. Ultra HD Storage Cabinet and various other brands of similar size garage cabinets that Sears sells. Obviously, prices for these cabinets may be different, +/-, depending on purchase source (these are from Sears.com).

I was contemplating going with the seville cabinets myself but opted for unfinished wood ones and finished them myself.

i was also budget minded and the amount I needed even for sevilles would have been twice as much as the wood ones.

The sevilles are sweet cabinets though.

Alot of the sams stuff is good. Im grabbing one of those workbenches and will put two craftsman tool chest bases under them.

tenorplayer23 is right on! I looked and looked and looked. For the money, in my opinion, you CAN'T beat Seville!!!! ........Next to knowing how to build your own or getting used stuff.

I bought a few of those Seville cabinents, I don't think they are quite as nice as the Gladiator but when you look at the price then they can't be beat. I'll probably get one more in a few months.

Castored cabinets are a must. That disqualifies a couple of the contenders automatically.

The Seville Classic cabinets are all steel, a combination of powder coated metal panels and stainless steel doors.

The other cabinets in the comparison are steel, as well, from the information I was looking at. Obviously, structure and metal gauge are likely different......as is hardware and what-not, so I can't tell you the exact differences or true +/-'s.

On the other hand, the relative price point difference is so large from the others for my application, which is just home use garage storage and car/home work, that I figured I'd be better off with the cheaper ones.

So far, I have assembled a single tall cabinet. Elapsed time was ~ 2.5 hrs. Lot's of screws!! Lots! BUT, instructions were very well done, panels were nice made and fit well and the completed cabinet is pretty sturdy and looks great. Door latch works fine, CASTERS ARE MONSTERS (5") with two brakes, etc..

Here's a couple pictures of the completed cabinet...............the rest to come this week (I hope). Ugh......

One thing to note with the gladiators if you get the prebuilt ones they are welded up and very solid. The ones at lowes are usually the ones you have to put together yourself.

But I will definately look at these for if I need more storage.

The bench price is really where Seville shines. The Seville bench is $215 (I've seen it under $200 at times), the Gladiator is $450 for the 6 foot version and $500 for the 8 foot version. To top things off, the Seville bench has an extra set of metal legs in the middle which means it can support more weight.

I actually prefer the look of the Gladiator cabinets, but I'm just not sure I can justify the premium price.

I figure for a bench, two wall cabinets, a rolling cabinet and a couple of tall cabinets you would spend $1165 MORE for the Gladiator then you would with Seville. That is a tough amount to swallow considering the primary difference is the look.

I agree........I like the look of the Gladiator cabinets better, as well. In fact, I like the red/black Craftsman & Geneva look better, as well. But, as pointed out, the cost differential is really LARGE. I spent about ~$1100 for the 2 tall cabinets, 2 small rolling cabinets, the 6ft. workbench and the smaller 4ft. rolling workbench w/pegboard back. The difference between the Seville tall cabinet and one Gladiator tall cabinet was about $130. For sure, there have to be some construction differences (I am sure the Gladiators are better constructed/welded, et. al.) and as we agree, the Gladiators look a little better. But, based on just the tall cabinet, I almost got two Sevilles for the price of one Gladiator.......

As far as the workbench goes, while I have yet to put it together, it definitely looks bulletproof. The extra support in the 6ft. span makes it much tougher and divides the space nicely for the small rolling cabinets that fit underneath, perfectly. Plus, it is all square, steel tubing (decent gauge) and has a butcher block top (allegedly hardwood.....I'm going to cover it with fiber board to keep the **** off of it). I figure one 4' x 8' piece can be cut exactly to fit both workbenches. It is much better than some of the Sears units, since they are built with formed, sheet metal legs, not tubes. The Seville Classic is much better in this respect!! Absolutely agree! (BTW, the 6ft. workbench was $198 at this Sam's Club. The real bargain is the 4ft. rolling workbench, on casters, w/two drawers & the pegboard back for $149.)

Extrapolating that differences in pricing (above) to the rest of my six pieces plus the wall cabinets (probably ~4) I will buy to match and it is easily $1000 less than Gladiators. Way, more, easily!! The Sevilles are all powder coated and have stainless doors. Sure, I'd like thicker, bulletproof construction..........but, I'd rather have the ~>$1000+ for other things. After all, they are garage cabinets, not fine furniture. In fact, speaking of fine furniture, I can spend the extra $1000 on some teak coffee & occasional tables for the house. Yea, that's the ticket! Plus, it will be nice for the better half.

I guess Im one of the rare ones. I am not a huge fan of the gladiator looks. I think they will date themselves fairly quickly.

The Seville cabinets have a more timless look if you will............

Gladiator has 2 product lines. Most of the Big Box stores sell the ready to assemble models which are lower cost than the Premier models.

The only thing to assemble on the Premier models are the wheels. The entire assembly take perhaps 5 minutes.

However, you can't argue with the price of the Seville cabinets.

I bought five of the Seville cabinets @ Sams 2 wks ago ($188 vs $288 for the same size RTA Gladiator @ Lowes) and am very satisfied. They went together quickly & easily; good instructions + no missing parts + everything is machined to go together w/o a problem. They're not quite as sturdy as the RTA Gladiators but the savings paid for a lot of other stuff.

The tall 6ft. cabinet is not on Sam's on-line for some reason. Not sure why it's left off, unless it has to do with shipping by freight only. In order to figure this out, I had to actually go to the local club. Couldn't get anyone who knew much on nthe phone.......even with a description and model number (wow, it would have been so tough to walk that hundred feet for me and save me the first 14 mi. drive one way!). They ended up having plenty of those particular cabinets.

I've been looking at cabinets recently and have compared the Seville and Gladiator models. I was going to get the Seville at Sam's but my wife said (this is crazy) "That looks pretty flimsy. Why don't you find something stronger?" I know crazy, but she might be right. The Gladiators rate their shelves at only 25lbs each, and is the same weight as the Seville, ~130lbs.

Can anybody vouch for their durabilty and if they are sturdy enough? Its seems like these puppies are made from 24 gauge steel.

I did find something on the Sam's site that seemed a bit stronger, though also more expensive:

Its a Sandusky Heavy Duty Mobile Cabinet, about the same dimensions (actually greater volume), but its shelves are rated for 200lb each instead of just 50lb. It also uses 20 gauge steel on the outside, 22gauge on the shelves, weighs ~40lbs more than the other two. Of course, its more expensive, but $340 shipped isn't too bad if it actually is better quality. Anybody familar with it?

Look at craigslist and REALLY hunt the sales. If you like Gladiator and really put in the time, you can get it real cheap. Heres what I got. Pics soon!

Gear Locker ($295 Sears sale) : $209 on sale at Sears (price fluke) plus $20 in a gift card from other sears purchases (see below): $189.

Gear Cabinet ($279 Sears sale): $150 from Craigs list. Great condition. He threw in a Wall Cabinet ($140 Sears) free!

Gear Cabinet: I paid $279 on sale at sears; they gave me an additional $20 card through a promo.

Gladiator 6 foot bench ($359 Sears sale): Beautiful! $179 at Sears. They had one on clearance that they didnt want to re-stock I guess. Brand new.

etc. etc. That's not the end of it!!!

Its a challenge finding this stuff at a severe discount, but worth it and fun!

I must have saved over $1000 doing it this way. Ebay is good too, but consider shipping costs, which make it not such a good deal anymore in many cases...

Another thing to consider is Seville is made in China. Gladiator Premier series is made in the U.S.A. Does that matter? To me, it doesnt really, but I feel better about it...

but I would never paid full price for any Gladiator items. It is pretty expensive...

If you can find slightly used cabinets like above, it's a great deal. I would think that getting complete sets would be difficult to find...perhaps over a long period of time and around bigger metro areas w/higher population (or nationwide if somebody wants to ship them).

No doubt that the better Gladiators and other top end cabinets are exceptional, but the Seville Classics are really a bargain. Their work benches are superior and the stand alone cabinets are quite good. It depends on your budget and desired configurations. Seville offers basic pieces, whereas the other top end companies may have many more unit choices. In my opinion, for the dollar, the Seville brand is quite the bargain....you just have to build up the pieces.

I live in a metro region...California, around the Sacramento/S.F. Bay Area region. That makes it easier to pick up the pieces and scope out deals.

Seville is real nice. I wish I could see them up close. I am a Costco member and Sams Club is a little further out where I live,
