Nice box natejohn, any chance you'd want ro part ways with the stickers?

Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

They're actually magnets! Two in fact. There's the Mac Tools small circle magnet and the triangle Warning magnet. The Matco logo is what looks like a replacement for the one riveted to the box. The other thing is a booklet holder, vinyl, probably meant for holding a notebook or something.

Here is my vintage tool box that was used by a Mechanic/ Crew Chief from Alan Green Chevrolet. He worked on the Z-16 Impala, their Cheetah, L88 Corvettes, 1967 Trans Am Racing Camaro Z28, and MANY others...

Have any close-up pictures of those boxes? I'm curious who they were made by.

Here a a couple of my old boxes still in use at work. Vintage Craftsman. Also the tool boxes that I have in my shop. My sons think I may have a problem....maybe so. :D
Hey, "If you have to ask"
The 1st picture, the one on the right, the bottom box in like the one I sold, that age and everything.
Didn't have the small drawers. All long ones.
I still Kick my self now and then. Had a Full depth, 18" deep Husky, circa 1995 on top, sold the whole kit )and kaboodle :D) for $300.00!
That's why I told the OP, when he showed the husky $50.00 top 18 deep chests, not to get me started.
Win something.
Haven't seen him in a while, any know if something is wrong?

Rileysan,

funny you should ask...

When I met up with a late 60's Can Am guru at the track, he found the ORIGINAL OWNER of the box. I verfied because he knew the brand and ALL of the stickers.

It is very obscure (to me) brand. It's a Hout.

The box stayed in a 30 mile radius of Alan Green Chevrolet all of it's life.

It would be nice to reunite it with one of the race cars... I still use it as a toolbox!

And you SHOULD continue using it! It's got history but it would be a shame to sit in a corner like a museum piece

Huot made boxes but they are more well known for drill indexes. Very cool!

Trying to work out a deal on this combo. They've been sitting for too long, and something really appeals to me about that mid-sized plomb box.

I made an offer. I don't think they'll like it.

Any idea who made the bottom box?

How did you get it looking so nice? I have the same set up from my dad.

He shows it step by step in the other thread he mentioned:

I have no idea on the lower box but have a lot of ideas on the plomb box..do you have any other pictures of either ? The plomb could be worth a bit but condition is everything on them. How much did you offer on them ?

They've been resprayed at some point. And the top box is missing a removable tray that some have. It does not come with the tools shown.

The bottom box is well built heavy gauge steel. Seems well made. Just didn't see a maker.

The lower looks shop-made, but it could be a stand for something like a valve refacing machine. It looks like the lower has one shelf midway, based on the rivets at that point. The lock with no handle on the door supports the machine stand theory.

Maybe I am cheap but I would say no more than $ 75 on the plomb box and no more than $150 for both ? Did you offer in that neighbor hood ?

I offered less than that. He turned down my offer. I'm okay with it. He says he had an offer for $150 that he turned down.

I really only want the plomb box but he doesn't want to separate them.

It's possible. If somebody wants to split it or pay for the whole thing, I can pick it up and store temporarily.

Just let me know.

If you could post a closer image to that decal it could be replicated.

Nice!I just found the same boxes for sale on Offer Up here in Vegas.

Thanks! They're a decent old set (my first older tool boxes) that I got used from the Snap-On guy for $250. Last owner lined all the drawers with **** carpeting. Groovy.

Wish I had the Bicentennial stuff to stick on the top box, still on the lookout for that. Painted the emblems blue to match the sticker on the bottom box. (Subaru WR Blue for anybody wondering)

So looks like that tool box was made by Kennedy for Craftsman. It's the Kennedy brown. Kennedy made boxes for Craftsman around 1979.. Kennedy made their machinist boxes.

I picked up a craftsman box that was that color. IIRC it had a date stamp on 1986.

Its was a wrinkled brown throughout the entire box.

So here's the brochure for that Kennedy/Craftsman box. My buddy actually found it in his collection. Pretty neat

Taking apart an old Craftsman box tonight and I'm left with this. Any tips to get that lid to sit correctly?4a0c738c0d03f75f4f6820077e222be3.jpg

6Pony, Hmmmmm, I've had a few with skewed lids, but that one is quite a bit more than mine were. I'd start by looking at the back and seeing if it's caved in around the hinge anywhere. If so, carefully pound it back out flat. Also check to see if the whole box is out of square/rectangle. Something's bent for sure. Keep us posted.

Check the hinge Pony, you may need to try straightening the area with a hammer and block if it's bent, that will usually let the lid shut correctly.

Long day for me making four stops in the greater Seattle/Tacoma area.

First off, from a Goodwill online auction comes this wall mounted Heritage era woodworking box. $19.99 + auction fee.
