EDDIE: speaking of SHIPPING thanks for maybe volunteering to be part of the MULE TRAIN to transport GJ MEMBER'S items maybe 1,000 miles. can you post up over on that thread and the link is in my sig line.

I always thought it might be a good idea and several other members are willing to drive stuff when they go on trips with or without their families.

also the members that fly all the time across the country could bring empty suitcases to fill up on one side or drop off a suitcase full to the next or final stop on the MULE TRAIN.

Hahahahah, started to. Then I remembered that I told her about the $165 for the Reed 3C. Then she saw the mint 4C and knew that was more than $25 so I took the 5th.

Vintage: i'll have to maybe try to ship you something and see what FedEX from our side does with cost and customs or maybe you and dad could drive down here more often.

ALL: speaking of desks do any of you have steel desks like this one? i've got 2 in my little garage now and not sure which vise to mount on this one. the other one has my Yost 34c.

Mr.P: no idea who made your blacksmith vise, but it looks like it's well built. clean it up and put some BLO and snap a few more pictures and post them if you have the time. WELL DONE!!



Compu: if you've read this thread and are continuing to do so i congratulate you. i did so a couple times before i joined and have read every post since then and as you know written a few too. for a fairly simple tool it sure does have some history and a lot of variety doesn't it?



i don't think you can go wrong buying that old Craftsman and does it have the Heritage badge on it or just a casting that says Craftsman. do you know how to post pictures yet and if not just ask and we'll help you cause you know we like pictures. just look for cracks, welds and missing pieces of cast and if the vise doesn't have any of those issues and screws in and out i'd say buy it. does it look something like this Craftsman i own?

a busted vise nut is not an easy fix, but if you have the skills or the money i'm sure it can be fixed or replaced with something that will work. good luck

I'm keeping this one. It's an upgrade to the Parker I have. If I find a nicer one I will sell it and do the same thing over again

Looking for some opinions what to price this vise at on my local CL (2 hours west of Chicago). I was thinking it should sell for around $150 with the stand an new re-sale red paint job (I had a half a can laying around) but I'm not finding values on this model of vise on auction sites. YOur input is appreciated.

The Wilton found its new owner today. Sounds like he will put it to good use. $100 back into the slush fund. Thanks for the input on the price, the way I was thinking it may have been taking up space in the shop for way too long.

Found a Wilton C0 today it is in decent shape date code is exp 1959 so I think 1954 would be its production year regardless love these C0,s it's my fourth one. The interesting thing about these for me is I only advertised one for sale and a gentleman in Texas bought it and we have become friends since then. The other two I never advertised for sale and two guys on separate occasions came over to buy bench grinders I restored and decided they needed a Wilton C0 so off they went and both those guys are great people. Hopefully this one comes out decent and who knows who I will meet.

Found a Rock Island 594 at an auction paid about $20 more then I wanted to but sometimes that happens.

The Torco Wilton bench vise was made approximately from 1947-1957.

This particular Torco Wilton bench vise was cast labeled from Schiller Park in Illinois and has the 4 inch jaws, max opening of 4-1/4" and weight around 20 pounds.

Has small anvil on rear and a double lock down on swivel base.

You could order a Torco with or without pipe jaws, which would make this a catalog #240.

For a small vise, it is pretty rugged.

CA: i've mostly sold my vises (vices) to members if and when i have and i have to say i've met a lot of great guys too. even the guys that i've bought these from are pretty good bunch too.

nice finds today and have you build another bench or are you taking lessons from Joe and building some stout shelving units? if you are headed to SANDMAN'S some day in the near future i bet you'll get an eye full and a good idea how to move and store some BIG IRON.

Mike: i do like your naked waxed vises. i've never owned a Torco or if i did i probably sold it cause i'm not a huge fan of the smaller open screw vises.

Does anyone have any information on this CP vise model?
I may pick one up if I dare drive 140 miles r/t to buy it.
The vise looks good but it needs a closer look. Does anyone know what size nut that is on the bottom of the swivel base? Usually, they're 1 3/8" but they vary.

Does anyone know what all those nut sizes were on CP's?
I will have to buy a large socket and want to buy the right size to open up the swivel base to see if anything is cracked, welded or missing.

That's a raw deal, but even if you pre pay with PP, the seller can still cancel the sale and refund your money. I know, It's a sh**** way to do business but there isn't too much a buyer can do here. The seller just got greedy and his word means nothing. You just have pay and get your item fast in these instances.
Maybe it just wasn't meant to be and another better deal will show up.

Ive had that happen to me a few times. Very frustrating. But like you said, it was just a wilton. Nothing special.

Brett, where did you see a Columbian Autocrat that struck your fancy.---I'll just tell you, you don't see many of them pop up for sale, and I don't know why.---They are a nice size vise for home use and right stylish, but evidently they didn't make many of them.

Funny I've been looking for a 249 or the next size up for a while. They arent common and the ones I've seen have been broken. :/

Saw an Adams Diamond for $100.00 and I really wanted it. Saw this on a saturday night...Looked it up sunday AM and could not find the add...thought about it later and looked through my history ... no luck, but when I looked on CL again, there it was.

Contacted the seller and asked if he would have it after my one hour drive...he said yes. a little over half way there he texted me with "early bird got the worm"...I would have paid at least $120.00 because I really wanted it.

If I had not lost the time looking for the CL ad that had just disappeared...and/or if the guy had a tad of class...

Thanks. That's kind of funny you mention using it as a cooler. I kind of used this wagon as a cooler for our annual Memorial Day bbq / my wife's birthday party. Her bday is May 30th. Temps were only in the 50s so I didn't need to use real coolers. I just put 2 of those round galvanized buckets with drinks and ice in the wagon for a cool presentation.

I actually found a killer deal on this radio flyer when I needed something to take to the swap meet last year. Of course I ended up buying nothing and then the wagon sat in the garage full of scrap metal until this past weekend. I cleaned it out so my wife and I could take to the farmers market. Much cooler rolling around an all steel versus the plastic radio flyer.

Yeah, that makes it total BS on the seller's part. Not holding stuff is one thing, but you've got to give someone a chance if they say they're on the way...wow. I guess nothing really surprises me with CL deals any more.

That late in production I would expect the last digit to = jaw size.
