Hey:
I just returned from Advanced Auto Parts, had to pick up some parts, and noticed the end cap with Gearwrench at blow out prices.

I bought SAE and Metric non-ratcheting wrench sets, in the rack 1/4 to 1 inch and 8mm to 24 mm...................29.98 for each set

Tin Snips 3.98

12 pc socket sets on the rail for 4.98 a set

single screwdrivers for 1.98 each

stubby ratchets for 4.98

I walked out with the wrench sets, tin snips, SAE 1/4 inch drive set, 12" long screwdriver, a stubby ratchet for my son, and a deep 19 mm socket for 86 bucks......................See what your local store has before they are gone.

not all the franchises do that. i went to few local stores yesterday with a $10 off coupon in my pocket, came home with nothing. only 1 store had some GW on red tags but most of them were gone.

Sorry guys, they had a ton of it, at the store in my area, I didn't have to have what I bought, but at the prices they were selling for, spares are necessary to a tool glutton,LOL I bought my 4 year old son some tools, already started his future tool box,:bounce:

Yeah that is what I thought, I never really looked at the GW non-ratcheting combo wrenches before tonight, but they look better than Cman pros, and below Snap-on or Cornwell, but for 30 bucks with the rack, can't beat that with a stick. I am "protective" of my prime tools, so the GW will be great for my buddies when they work in my garage LOL. SOme of the other odds and ends were soo rock bottom it was ridiculous. LOL I felt like i robbed the place when I walked out.:bounce:

Merk,

Do you own any GearWrench tools? If not, would you? I am a little surprised to see you post this.

I thought the Gear Wrench at the Advance here was quite expensive as well. On the other hand, they're the only decent tools they sell. The other stuff is no name junk or Alltrade which may not be much better.

I just ordered the GW long box ratcheting wrenches, they were over 300 bucks. I also got the stubby flex head set, just under 200. They are technically the best selection of ratcheting wrenches in the business, if only they were made here, they would be perfect.

Advanced auto had regular specials, and the more common stuff can be had for cheap.

it seems general consensus is a mileage may vary as far as sales go. i have noticed in looking at one a.a. that there are some items priced less than others when they're similar. i've seen screwdrivers for $2 when a set of 6 or 7 costs $35. so the math doesn't necessarily add up but you're bound to find something on the cheap side. i too have the $5 stubbies at one store here.

Are these the ones you ordered?http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/kd85988.html. I have them and they work great.

Are others finding stubby wrenches on sale? I wish my stores had them... Oh well.

Is Advance Auto already throwing in the towel on Gear Wrench?

Coach

1) As stated in the other GearWrench thread, Advanced is going to sell their own line of tools, that's the reason GW's going away. And , 2) As some of you have found, these sales are regional. Some guys are cleaning up, otheres, (like me), are in the wrong place. No sales around here.

I just bought a bunch of things from AA last week. Two sets of the Gearwrench stubby screwdriver sets (8915) for $9.95 each, couple of pliers and snips for $5/each, 2 sets of full 3/8" 6 point SAE socket sets 1/4"-1" on rails for $10 each, 3/8" flex ratchet for $10, set of 1/4" and 3/8" thumbwheel ratchets for $5, and a whole bunch of socket rails for $2-3. Very good deals.

Last week, I did some searching at my 2 neighborhood Advance Auto stores. Both places did not stock any discounted Gearwrench hand tools. Last night, I drove 35 minutes south of my home to meet a friend and I shopped at the local Advance Auto store. This store had some discounted Gearwrench tools. I purchased there the following hand tools: 3/8" drive stubby ratchet, 1/4" flat screwdriver, 3/16" flat screwdriver, T-40 Torx screwdriver, linesman plier; 6mm combination wrench, 7mm combination wrench, 8mm combination wrench, and a 9 mm combination wrench.

just came from my two local aa's and they've got the same stuff on sale just about. i bought a 15pc stubby screwdriver set for $10. they had a t-handle set for 10 also but i passed on it.

one deal i passed on this time but may pick up within the next few days is the 15pc long combination wrench set, sae or metric. they're clearanced at 39.95 regular 130+.

fyi...any clearanced item will be **.95. all other items will be **.x9. all of the wrenches, sae and metric, are all marked down 1.95 for smaller, 2.95 for the middle ones, and 7.95 for your larger sizes.

Thanks for the info! I got individual long 30mm, 17mm and 14mm wrenches yesterday for $15. I'm going to try another store - I could use a 10, 12, and 27mm! My store was nearly out of metric but completely stocked with standard sizes.

so i pulled the trigger on the 15pc sae and metric combination sets. $80 out the door for 30 pcs total. can't beat that deal. not even some of the craftsman sets could compete with what i got here.

Is there any way to determine which stores are having this clearance, and which ones aren't? None of the stores in my area seem to be.

some have already changed the prices and are not marked with a sign that says clearance. if it is on clearance it will be **.95. the .95 will be your clue that it's been marked down. if not, just have them ring it up. all the non ratchet wrenches sae and metric should be on clearance.

Nothing on sale or clearance at the 2 stores in NJ that I checked. Regular price and everything still behind the counters.

I called just about every Advance in my area and after hearing from each one that they were sold out I kind of gave up. I was in an advance yesterday and was asking if they possibly had any thing left and they said no that they sold out months ago..but he said he thought he knew of a store that might have some..sure enough he called and told me to go to that store and talk to the manager.. This store is run by a woman and she hasnt gotten around to doing her clearance. She said she has all the gearwrench in totes and will get around to it sometime this week. She took down my number and told me that she would call when she has time to go through the totes and i would get first dibs.

I haven't put a pencil to it but I think the drive from Texas would negate any savings. I checked the only store near me (30 miles) and they had no clearance items, only brand new stock. Oh well.
