What brand of tools do the chinese use

Ok,

I am buying tools that are made by the big companies and I am seeing less and less of made in the USA. So this is my question what brand of hand tool do they use in China? Do they use Gearwrench , Great neck,alltrade,jet,Enco,General,Vise-Grip,Stanley etc.

With the distribution system in China, my guess is the typical end user may have no idea what brand of tool they are buying, could be stamped Snapon and come out the back door of the Alltrade plant.

Plus the tools of a craftsman are likely different from household tools.

I've never been to China, but in Indonesia, they use any tool they can get their hands on.

This is an interesting question, I wonder what the heavy industries in china use, I would think that they would have to have quality tools building their manufacturing they way they are. You would think HF quality tools would be a loosing proposition wrenching on heavy equipment day in and day out... They must have access to quality products.

This question is no different from asking what tools they use in Mexico, or anywhere. Any good mechanic, or bad mechanic, would want the best tools they can afford. It doesn't take much to recognize crappy tools. So why would they want to use crappy tools if quality tools are available to them. Either they are too expensive or very few vendors import them so they are hard to find.

My friend based in Hong Kong ordered a set of Craftsman and a set of Snap On wrenches to bring back as gifts. He said he have a business associate in Shenzhen that work on his own motorcycle ask for them. They have gotten tools from Germany as well.

I went to trade school with a guy from Africa and when the Snap-On guy came and gave his presentation to the class this guy could not believe that he could buy a tool own it for however long, break it and return it.
He said if you tried to do that in Africa the person you bought it from would just stare at you like you were crazy.

Depends on the area and the mechanic. Anything from the hammer and sickle (farm animals with car(t)), to Probably Snap-on for government vehicles. Their tools are expensive over there, with a billion + people, their mechanics/labor isn't. (fix it or your gone)

Just got off the phone with my Hong Kong friend. He told me the Lexus dealer in Shenzhen uses Snap On tools.

The AC repair guy down the block uses a mix bag of crappy tools.

So it kind of make sense. It depends on which mechanic we are talking about. I grew up in the Bronx (Da Hood). Same deal.

They do. It's important to remember that HF is not a Chinese company. It's an American company, importing cheap Chinese products to fill demand in the US. The Chinese produce many items - tools included - that are not imported into the US because there's not a demand for them.

the average public uses their homegrown 'made in china' stuff. in fact they have internet boards where the argue about only buying the 'made in china' stuff

the cheap *** chineeses people go to a store (very similar to HF) and buy stuff that is made in INDIA.
the ********* people that only buy tools that are 'made in china' give these people lots if **** about buying a cheaply make tool from INDIA

I would bet any tool that is of any sort of quality tool is kept under lock and key until needed. I would think that they have the same issue with low quality and high quality tools that we have here. Just that the higher quality ones are harder to come by. What does a mechanic make an hour in other countries anyway??

I have spent a lot of time in Pacific rim countries doing equipment installations. The mechanics usually drool over our snap on tools and other US made quality equipment BUT all their tools are furnished to them by the company they work for they are astonished that we own our own tools. The quality of the company furnished tools varies from OK to sh*t.

I've seen that look, but it was on the face of a SnapOn salesman when I tried to warranty something several years ago.

Those snap on or mac or whatever truck brand toolman that refuses to replace repair or exchange a broken lifetime warranties tool should just flat out lose their franchise if get fired or however it works. Who are they trying to kid? The friggin tool has a lifetime warranty period. No need to BS your way out of it.

It was an electric (UK- 240v/13a) grinder that was assembled so the screws holding the case together were live, threw me across a workshop as soon as I plugged I it in.... I wasn't a happy camper.

Most of the lower cost countries mechanics I have talked to try to get people they know who travel overseas to bring them tools and stuff back to them. Alot of times because the customs cost is really high if you ship them in so they get people to put them in their lugage and kind of sneak them in. They also don't like cheapy Chinee tools.

I could tell stories for hours about the way they used the tools they had. First time I had ever seen anyone try to use a hammer drill and masonry bit to blow holes through an I beam.

I would venture to guess there is a Chinese factory pumping out half decent tools but all those tools stay in China. They only export the cheap junk. Would you buy a Snap-on quality tool that said "Proudly Made in The People's Republic of China"?

Do tell. From the HF website:

"Back in 1968 Harbor Freight Tools set out to make it easier for the working man and woman to get the best value on top-quality tools. Your source for the best quality tools at the lowest prices."

Sure sounds like they're passing themselves off as "cheap s**t" to me.

HF is not a brand of tool! There a discount retail store.....period

Now they do sell tools but they are still just a retail store and there star name in hand tools is "Pittsburgh" which by my count has 3 different origins
1. China
2. India
3. Taiwan (which seems the better)

I would also like to note that I did include the use of Zrexxer's mention of HF in my count of 6 and HF also sells cast iron skillets, what other brand of tool company sells those? Heh!

Actually, they have alot of mechanics. There are alot of American cars (GM and Ford) in China.

Tools are basic infrastructure just likes roads, railroads, electricity etc. Snapon is nice, but its silly to think that a job could not be done because a HF tool is used instead of a Snapon. Cheap tools are moving industry forward all over the world. You need a "wrench" a LONG time before you need a good wrench.

I use to build boats with an entire box full of HF tools, they are cheap(I was able to get started as a mechanic with out racking up a ton of debt), not that bad actually(I still have all those tools in my garage at home), and once again cheap(when you lost one, oh well).

They have a place and purpose, I have an entire box for work filled with Matco, Mac, Cornwell, Snap on. At home however 75% of my tools are from HF. I have tools that I would never be able to own if not for HF, such as an english wheel and planishing hammer.I still prefer Snap on, but my wife and check book don't agree.

No country have a monopoly on stupid or ignorant people. I have seen some tire change place guy in the hood use a sledge hammer to try to remove a rounded lug nut. Every country have their share of home brew uneducated people.

More likely that guy that try to do the i-beam is not educated in the task. It is like watching my mother try to pound a nail into a wall with a pair of channel lock pliers. The problem with many organizations in China is that they hire unqualified people to cut cost.
