Looing at insulation to put in a ceiling in a enclosed room in the garage.
It will have a loft above it, 2x8 ceiling joists. Menards has some unfaced R25 but is really too thick. I thought the facing was needed for a vapor barrier, am I wrong? Suggestions? This room is going to be heated and cooled.

Don't ask.
Generally unfaced insulation is either added on top of other insulation or with a separate vapor barrier.
What's above the room? (Is there any reason the additional thickness isn't desirable?)

There will be a storage loft with plywood or osb floor. 2x8 lumber so limited to that thickness.

As I understand it compressing the insulation slightly is no big deal. How thick is the R-25 at Menards?

You could install a separate vapor barrier on the conditioned side.

I think it was 8 1/4 without looking. What would you use for a vapor barrier?
