Any suggestions to center clutch disk without tool..

Swapping a junkyard engine in a 01 Saturn Dohc. Easy answer is to buy a clutch kit but for various reasons I'm going to swap the clutch over..

I once asked AutoZone if I could borrow the clutch alignment tool from a clutch kit and quickly bring it back cleaned it looking brand new (since they didn't sell the tool). They said no problem.

broom stick work perfect, or cut about six inches off the plunger, which i did

That seems like the best idea. Need this job done tmrw..I found a clutch kit from Advanced for $100 after all the coupon codes. I'm really gonna push hard for the sell..thanks for the ideas if he doesn't go for it.

Starter is on engine side, but thats a good trick for other engines

Turned one on a lathe from a dowel rod.

I do most of mine by eye and never had issue, pretty easy see the friction plate spline bore central to spigot and actually better accuracy than poor alignment tool options .
Only exception being multi-plates where alignment shaft more critical .

ditto. did the same for my Monza. they USED to sell wooden ones in on the "Help" racks at the old auto parts stores. double ended with 2 different sizes.

HF also sells a decent kit for around $10 with all the different attachments. picked one up a few months ago on clearance so they may not still have them but you could check.
