Right, for sure not a branded RemLine box, but they did made boxes for lots of other brands. They just didn't put the tin man on those other box's pulls.
Here's a pic of the pulls on my RemLine made Powr-Kraft stack. Looks like the same pulls to me. :dunno:

I don't know either. The pulls on your box almost come to a point. The pulls on my box are more "squared" off. I need to do some more research.

Bigbore, can you post a close-up of the faded logo under Snap-On on the front cover? It kind of looks like Pratt & Whitney, but I was curious.

Looks similar to the old Craftsman red and grey or old Powr Kraft. For $20, I'm almost tempted to get it just for fun.

Pony, inspect that one close as I'l bet its a really cheap lower level homeowners box. It may not even have slides... Painted to resemble something its not...

Oh yeah...it's definitely a low level box. I searched for the Test Rite brand and couldn't find anything. I guess that's why it's still for sale at $20.

yes, 6pony.
that is a very cheap box. when i say cheap i mean cheaply made box.
that was my 1st non carry box about 30 years ago. i got it used back than w/ a bunch of tools for maybe $75.
the drawers are sloppy. and the bottom cabinet is just that.
i think i gave mine away.
i've only seen another in real life and it was at a fancy *** flea market and the guy was asking $120.

really, i would joke that it's a PLAYSKOOL "my first toolbox"
at $20 i might be tempted to buy it just for a parts/bolt bin.

Not sure it would be worth it for even that Beat.

Glad to see your back guy!

This toolbox sat on my dad's workbench for most of my life, from as early as I can remember to long after I moved away from home. I wish I knew more about it but it seems to be even older than my dad was, so it was very likely inherited from him.

Can anyone tell me anything about this? Believe it's made by Kennedy

Kennedy 520. made from the 30's at least and still in production. the learly units to about after WWII had square top corners and leather covered handles IIR the dates about right yours looks much newer, but the details may get the age closer. Handle specifics, lock markings, logo(s) if still present, etc...

Thank you Outlaw! Here are some more pics including the logo, hope I had decent light. I closed the lower shelf/cover for one also. Taken with my phone

BTW, very heavy box. Even with nothing in it. Nice leather handle but can't imagine carrying this around with tools in the drawers. Was always on dad's workbench, stationary.

Leather handle and earlier logo so I would say 40's 50's at a guess. I don't think anyone has a map of the build dates made up. Older than I expected to be sure.

Good boxes, generally used for machinists and were very popular as electronics tech's bench boxes in the 70's 80's. Certainly anyone using smaller tools can use them.

Loaded they do get very heavy. I have several and one is a three drawer version with plumbing tools. VERY heavy to carry... I like these, both 3 and 7 drawer, for dedicated use boxes. I have another full of leather working tools, an older square top holds my "tiny tools" collection, one is full of taps, dies, and extractors, another has electronics tech type tools...

Out....

Not exactly.....I had the tape on hand and installed it in the drawers some time back as I had intended to put the box to use. Was less than three feet used as it was split in half.

So, about 1/6 of $8 plus the $2, I paid for that box, is about where I stand. I sold it to a neighbour, the tag price was $25.

(I have had that tape for a while and I recall paying about $8 for it.)

It's not as if I needed another top chest, but this was just too cool to pass on. It's a Heritage era Craftsman 2 drawer chest that was previously owned by a VW mechanic. It's in excellent condition and has all kinds of "flair", including a vintage VW mirror mounted under the lid, which has gotta be worth a few bucks by itself!

Howe of Brookfield Wisconsin. They were on of the first VW dealers in Wisconsin. Located on Bluemound Road and Moorland in Brookfield. I bought my Scirocco from them. Jim

Brian: i'm happy you are buying up all the HERITAGE boxes that come up in your area so maybe you might eventually have one to trade. or do you NEED THEM ALL??

nice find and i can't say i've seen that version before. i bought a Huot 2 drawer box a month or two ago that i like that will hold a ton and yours has some cool stuff on it.

Nice find Rileysan! A perfect box for storing those DIN wrenches and pliers that came in the tool kits in VW Bugs.

Looks like that box traveled a long way in it's life. From Wisconsin to Oregon. Would be fun to know it's history!!! Jim

I drug this old Cornwell three drawer roller cab home today. I'm not sure of the age but it has the older style badge. Came with quite a pile of tools and some other ****. The Blackhawk torque indicator is pretty neat along with a few other keepers. A pile to sort through in the morning anyway. I like these smaller rollers as with the wheels removed they fit under my bench which is one of the few spots I still have empty space. It's sitting in place now by a similar Williams cabinet. Ed.

Outstanding! The ad made no mention of tools in it. If I had known, I would have at least made an effort to post the ad here on GJ. Even without the tools, the price was reasonable. I'm glad that you got it!

Edit: Now that I have taken a second look, I have to ask - did those wood planes come with the box? If you got all that, you got a "you ****" deal!

The old guy who had the Roller Cab for sale also had some boxes of tools in the shed which he really didn't want. We hit it off talking MGA's and next thing I knew we were loading up a few "extras". Ed.

Scored both of these proto Los Angeles top boxes from rileysan! I traded him a vintage craftsman for the red proto top box... To me this box looks amd made due to the handles and the slides ! It has a few bumps here and there but all in all is in good shape with most of its wrinkle finish present. It even has the little pull out top tray! I am going to line it with cork old school style and use it to hold my seldom used special tools such as brake tools, timing light, etc! I will be putting my plomb top box next to it! I have been at the proto/ plvmb game for almost 5 years and have never even seen or touched a proto top box like this ...then Rileysan lets me know about another one he spotted up in Washington on the c list that is not in as of nice shape but still solid! I jumped at the chance and bought that one as well for $30... These boxes are very well made and are heavier than you would think[emoji3] many thanks to rileysan for trading me the red box and for providing the mule train on the black one!

Smoke: i actually got to put my paws on that BLACK PROTO LA box and after i saw it in person i wish i had driven the 45 minutes to pick it up for me especially since you now have 3 of these great old Plvmb/Proto boxes. nice box and plenty solid. those old Plvmb/Proto top boxes were built to last that is for certain.

GOOD EYE RILEYSAN cause i was hesitant that it was even a Proto LA box. Whatever Smoke gave you for it you certainly deserved after you battled Friday night rush hour traffic from Seattle to Portland.

Those drawer pulls look exactly like the ones on my '30's Cornwell top chest. Mine has no slides. Same dull black color it appears too!
