Hey guys, my 2 year old air hose has a hole in it at the ******. What type of air hose is the strongest these days? This is my hobby garage and doesn't see everyday use, but I'd don't want to be changing hoses ever couple years. The hose is on a reel if that makes a difference.

thanks!!

I work in a trans shop, and the fluid is murder on hoses, so we would be really lucky to get 2 years out of any hose.

Mostly they get really stiff and discolored.

We use legacy hose, the bright yellowish green stuff. Its nice and flexible and light.

I have a friend who uses it in a small shop at his home where he works daily and he may get a couple of years of so out of a hose. He has a friend who comes by and putters around while he works, and the friend occasionally will wash down the hose and make it look all nice.

It does not like heat though, a welding spark will put a hole in it instantly. I have even seen a cigarette but roll across the floor and up against one and it instantly popped a hole in it.

The old heavy red hoses last a little longer but are a much bigger pain to use on a constant basis so I haven't bought any for years. In a trans shop it starts to feel like a piece of pvc pipe in about 6 months.

Air hose is pretty much a consumable. Expect to have to replace it every so often. For $20 you can get a cheap heavy pain to use hose, or for $40 ish you can get a nice light hose - if you aren't a welder anyway that is. Prices are approximate for a 50 footer.

Legacy hose has come down a lot, used to be about twice that for 50'.

I have a couple of Harbor freight copies of legacy hose out on the floor for the mechanics, it seems to hold up just about as well as the actual legacy. Those have been around a couple years or so, but have been shortened and new ends and what have you, need to get a couple more new ones really.

I also love me some Flexzilla. The Pro ones with reusable (compression fittings for hose) fittings are awesome, but usually harder to find/more expensive/never on sale... I put about 5 regular hoses in the shop when I worked there, then just bought a couple of the fittings and installed them as the crimped fittings failed after a year or so.

I would cut off the fitting and replace it . (cut a foot or 2 off ) switch the hose end to end if you want at the same time .

I didn't know you could put a new end on the hose. Where do you get the parts for that? Any special tools required?

often you can re use the barb fitting by cutting off the existing ferrule, but you can by a fitting at pretty well any place that sells air hose, a hardware store etc. no special tools needed, just a new clamp , screwdriver to fit and something to cut the hose with

If it has the brass crimp just cut it off , cut the hose and re insert the old barb fitting , you can use a hose clamp but it sticks out , I wrap it tight with wire or have used a zip tie . I think you can also use those crimp fittings in the plumbing section . New hose I also like the flexzilla . Bought one of those rubber diablo ones at hf but the black seemed to get on your hands
