I have been spoiled borrowing my Dad's dewalt 20v xr.... I know I should not expect either of these to be in that league. I change out mower blades weekly and this tool is a huge time saver. I would expect either of these two to do this job with ease.

Of the two I would go with the Rigid, but only because I have used Ryobi cordless tools and wasn't impressed. I have ne experience with Rigid and would gI've them a try.

I would get ryobi only because they have a better lineup of other tools. Either would work fine though.

I would buy whichever has additional tools you might want and can re-use the batteries with. Ryobi has a great line up and is generally cheaper than ridgid.

Yes Ryobi has a much more extensive lineup which I take advantage of. If Ridgid has the tool I will get it because of the warranty, especially on the batteries. The battery adapter in the link below has let me use my Ridgid batteries on Ryobi tools. It has worked well, especially as my Ryobi batteries are starting to fail. I have had 4 Ridgid batteries replaced free over the last 10 years. A few hoops to jump through in registering with Ridgid but otherwise very trouble-free process for me.

Ridgid better warranty. Come winter time those batteries will sit. Should they not work in the spring, you'll have the warranty.

So why aren't you getting the DeWalt? It's a tool you'll use frequently so that can help justify the cost. It's only $21 more than the Ryobi you listed.

Where did you see that price? Was that a bare tool price? I will need a kit including a battery and a charger.

JDL: If you need it now just get the Ridgid as that is a great deal. I am going on a big trip soon and may spring for it if I need to change a tire quick on the side of the road. As I said before I would rather have an updated version that should be coming out soon, but Ridgid is slow sometimes in introducing new models.

Milwaukee.. better tools, more impact wrench choices, and a bigger line of equipment to pick from in the future. Don't make a mistake by basing your choice off of your first choice of tool. Invest into a system. Once you have batteries and a charger you can buy any other bare tool they make under that battery platform. You should consider the entire line they offer before making one purchase, regardless of which brand you decide on.

Milwaukee also offers a mid torque impact wrench, and just announced their gen2 high torque rated at 1400 ftlbs of removal force. Not to mention their gen1 which has the biggest following on here.

Milwaukee is also running a lot of Father's Day sales, so you can look around on the forum here for sales listed. They offer the best deals of any cordless tools when it comes to sales that I've ever seen too.

These are Milwaukee's 3/8, 1/2" mid torque, and gen1 high torque impacts. Rated from 180 up too about 1000 ft lbs I believe.. the mid should be more than enough for mower blades. Not sure exactly how much power you need, but they also offer a right angle impact wrench. That might make things easier on you too. Here's a video of the IR right angle impact being used on a mower deck. Might be another choice for you. If you are really gonna use them a lot, it may be worth buying whatever will work better for you.
