brett- the other guys are right about the machinist chest.
kennedy? maybe. it is an earlier one cause of the square corners.
the drawer pulls might be right also. it's the fingerpull on the front lid that has me thrown..
i wanna say it is, but i cannot compare right now 'cause i had one like it but i gave it to my buddy to give to his son:lol:

Thanks for the replies guys, the pulls appear to be steel. That was about the only resto I did to this box. I just wire wheeled the knobs and ran them on the polisher real quick.
Other than that I love to look and the original color appears to be a darker green color

After some more research I think I found the original maker.
At least from what I can match this box seem to be what mine was originally. And this goes along with the darker green paint. 43e2082543a9d40338a8d4ddc779f23a.jpg
That being said if I ever wanted to do a restore on that box does anyone know of a good source of that old SK wrinkle style paint?

Brett: one of our members puts a wrinkle finish on some of his vises using this under the color which might help you if you want to put a wrinkle finish on your SK box.

Thanks guys and Drives that vise looks just like what I would like just in a green to match early SK. You don't happen to know who painted that or the process? I've read about spraying the wrinkle paint then directly after while still wet spraying the desired color

Brett: i think it was GETRIDOFONE's vise and wrinkle paint can. maybe if you PM him he might remember how he did it cause it was maybe a year or two ago. i think he posted up the process on the VISE REPAIR 101 thread if you want to do a search for WRINKLE first.

good luck

I went by an old shop sale today. It's been going on for several months now and the owner is slowly working his way through the mass but it is still piled high and hard to see just what could be in there through all the ****. Anyway I asked about tool boxes and he showed me this old chest he had recently uncovered. I couldn't pass it up so for $30 total I loaded the box and a working barber chair base up. I will check back in a few weeks to see if he's drug any other neat stuff out. I spent a little time cleaning the box out this afternoon and trying to figure out what it is. I'm not sure at all but it kind of has a military look about it to me. Lots of compartments and cubby holes. Here are a few pics. Anyone know what this is? Ed.

One more pic with the back tray lifted out, quite a bit of space in the bottom compartment. The tray can slide forward or lift out with retractable wire handles. The bottom is a little rusty but still solid enough, no holes anyway.

400 dollars later, this unicorn and some of his friends followed me home today.

I must tip my hat to the great Twertsy. He put a tip in my hands that a K60/K260 Snap On unicorn was for sale 30 minutes north east from my house. I contacted the seller and we struck a deal.

Yes, only this big fish story ends with a picture, not just a story. :) We'll have to see if we can find you something at dino land one of these weekends.

Yea I know. The Twertsy tool box drawer has been upgraded to the Twertsy tool box. lol.

Now, this thing does need some TLC. For one, the familiar smell of mouse piss is wafting through the bottom box. The drawer slides are stiff and will need to be cleaned and lubed. It will need 3 Snap-On badges and some minor body straightening.

Overall though, she is in fantastic condition. Literally zero rust/rot.

I will first ask for forgiveness.

1) Because on May 13th, I passed on that exact setup with a bunch of tools in it because it was too far to drive and I didn't have $400 ... the same price thehorse13 paid for his.

2) Because I'm going to put someone on the spot for not going after the set when I told him he needed to go get it (You know who you are!).

It sold within a couple of days.

Why do I remember exactly what day it was? Because I saved the pics so I could lament over it.

You **** 13.

I **** too (not in a good way) for not going after the same set.

Brian

riley and horse...yes these are not the same boxes, but ya wanna know what makes me smile?
both boxes have Cadillac emblems on 'em:thumbup:

horses is the crest & wreath from the 70s..maybe 80s.
the box riley showed has a Caddy emblem from maybe the early 60s, but more likely the late 50s.

I'd rather have that early Caddy emblem. If mine had that one, I would consider leaving it on the box.

This pimp emblem will be the first thing to go.

Small but great.....

Welcome to the forum!

That's a stout looking tool box and I really like the decal. Does that mean you live in NZ or Australia? We see Aussie vises on this forum from time-to-time, but I don't know if I've ever seen other tools and tool boxes from down under.

Tell us more about that tool box!

Great score on that Pressweld M37!

I'm 98% certain that is the same Craftsman branded Pressteel box I have. Different drawer fronts and pulls but everything else seems to Dovetail, including the trim on the edges! In 1954 Craftsman touted it as their "best tool box!

If any of the rollers on the drawers are dead, You can replace them with 1" Dia bearings. you will need to mod some bolts for them, but doable.

Picked up a couple more today. Blue Point service cart and a late '50's/early 60's Snappy roller. Both full of tools, but a lot of junk. Some Bonney, Cman, Williams, etc. but not a ton. Got both for $135, and I needed the cart.

Twertsy: i know you didn't need them, but i bet you still enjoy buying boxes with tools in them just because it's sort of like Christmas as a kid looking through the boxes and seeing if anything you NEED is in one.

Moore: pretty sweet and are you going to remove the top piece that is riveted, screwed or nailed on? pictures please after you clean it up and looks like a nice box.

Noise: i love those stout little carry boxes that were either hand made or maybe made for tractors or some other machines.

What's "NEED" got to do with it? Actually, I did need the BP cart.....

I needed (wanted) a temporary "road trip" box to keep stuff from my main box organized while I'm off fixing something. I found this on Kijiji yesterday. It was the guy's father's, bought sometime in the 60's. There's a little surface rust on the bottom especially inside, a couple of minor dings, has been left in a room uncovered while someone painted the ceiling, but otherwise is in fine shape. Tecomaster brand! Score!

Fantastic! I have that same roller sans front cover. Absolutely beautiful!

I'll calm down now. I believe your roller pre-dates the AMD (Advertiser's Metal Display) maker's mark, but it won't hurt to check anyway. Behind the Craftsman emblem on the drawer, check for a stamped metal marking on the inside of the drawer. It will be obvious if it's there. I had to take a photo with my smart phone in order to read it. There will be a 2 digit number indicating the year of manufacture. If it's not there (which I suspect) then your roller is pre-1954 iirc.

Thanks so much Brian, I looked and you are correct, I can not find any stampings on the drawer there. I was looking on the back panel like a snap on and I knew someone on this forum would point men in the right direction.

Picked these up for $2.50 each at garage sale yesterday. What's the best way to gently clean up the inside & out? Is diluted SG alright. Note that the Proto lid doesn't close properly; shifted to the right 1/8" so nothing lines up correctly. Should I drill out the spot welds on the hinge & re-attach, or some other approach?

Just missed a basic Proto 3-dwr base unit for $25. Drawer rollers were really rough, but I still felt bad to lose it by 3min.

Comp, take a close look at both the bottom and the top; one or the other, possibly a bit of both, has been bent trapezoidal. You need to figure which direction, then put some reverse tension on it.

Can anyone help me identify this old, rusty tool box? You can still make out the Craftsman crown logo painted on the front. It has an unusual diagonal? trapezoidal? lid held on by std latches, presumably to allow better access to the tool(s) held inside. An electric drill, perhaps? Looks like (the rusted remains of) a drill bit index across the opening, but not quite sure what that clamp is for.

I got it for $3.50 at an antique mall. It was not tagged, and when they called the owner of that booth I'm pretty sure they had no idea what the item was: "A rusty old box? How big?..."

Definitely a power tool box/case. I think your guess is spot on. Either it's for a drill or a router. I don't think Dremel type tools existed during the Crown Top era (~1962-1974).
