This is my 3rd Craftsman roller. I was happy to find one that would be pretty easy to restore, since my second one has been painted with appliance paint, and won't be easy. I finished the two drawer chest that will go on top of this cabinet, at least until I find another 10 drawer.

I sanded most of the paint off, and primed it with filler primer. No body filler on this one, although it could have used a little. When the weather gets dry, I will paint with Rustoleum hammered gray.

It looks a little rough here because the picture was before sanding with 400 grit paper.

Here are the clips for the door. I've taken two of these off now, and have not broken a clip til now. Bummer.

Maybe someone can give some tips on how to get these out easily, and without breaking. I hammered and pried mostly. Sometimes they come out easier than others. It's that little '***' that's the problem I believe.

Is the gray spray bomb or through a gun? It looks too good to be spray bomb on such a large flat surface...

Rustoleum rattle can/Hammered Gray, and Sunrise Red. Many years practice. I wish I did have a good enough compressor and spray gun because I would prefer a harder finish. One day maybe.

In capable hands, a spray paint can will produce a finish that will look like one that came from a spray gun.

I'm considering using appliance enamel on my Alemite table.

I will be watching this restore just like the others! :)

Nice work on the box.

Nothing wrong with rattle can painting. I did one of my motorcycles with Dupli-Color.

But if you want a harder finish just check with places that sell automotive type paints. Many of them can load whatever you want into spray cans. you just have to use them within like 24 hours.

I have never had to use a hammer. I just use a really small screw driver and put it over the little bump your referring to and pry the slide past the bump. I have several Craftsman Boxes and never broke anything like that.

If the previous projects are any indication, this new cabinet is going to be very nice.

Thanks. I appreciate the complement. This one has been giving me some difficulty. I got in a hurry, and the weather was not cooperating. The results are pretty good, and I can live with it. Pictures to come.

Whewww, I have a CM roller with appliance paint on it. That stuff is terrible to get off! I'm going to have to sandblast it for sure. It has gotten pushed to the very back of the garage and buried til I get time. Appliance paint is tougher for sure, but I think it's also a lot harder to get a good smooth finish with the rattle can appliance paint. If I remember correctly, I have coveted your Alemite table.

Here is some progress. After priming, I sprayed the drawers with Rustoleum Sunrise Red. They came out ok, but not as nice as the last set I did. The body was painted with Rustoleum Hammered Gray. Every time I use this stuff, it's a new experience. It never seems to go on evenly or with the same texture. I did not want a super shiny surface with a whole lot of hammered look. I was trying to match the texture and sheen on my other set. I can live with it.

Well, I've been trying to upload from photobucket for over 45 minutes with no luck. Sorry. I don't know what is wrong.

Here is what I'm talking about with the uneven spray pattern. I am very meticulous about shaking the rattle cans, and the big blob on the top left greeted me right off the bat. I'll post more when I get my problem with photobucket worked out.

I hope this works.
Some progress. All that's left to do is prime and paint the bottom drawer, and find some decent casters. My casters had worn uneven, and the cabinet would not sit level. I tried chucking one wheel up and machining them by holding a file against the spinning wheel, but it was way too slow.

The big door at the bottom was hard to get smooth, but it turned out ok.

I was trying to get this cabinet done quickly because I still need to organize my garage and the cabinet is holding me back.

First of the drawers finished, and cabinet all painted.

To change the subject a little, this is how I fixed the problem of the broken tabs on the CM emblem on the top chest. I believe Youngvolks was asking about how those plastic emblems mounted. Most of the tabs were messed up, so I cut them off and used JB Weld to attach some short (not short enough yet) screws on the emblem. Be sure to put them in the correct location, or just cut off the small '***' that goes in the small hole.

I anyone has extra emblems, I need two. One for the cabinet, and one to replace the one I robbed from my other cabinet.

For casters on my old box,I went to HF and found these. They work great. The casters on my Vintage Craftsman chest were so bent up the box would not roll along without lifting one end up.They sit a bit higher than the original casters,so there might be a noticeable difference if 2 boxes are sitting side by side.

Thanks Max. I actually took 4 casters off a small portable workbench I had. I was excited to find that they were the same height as the ones on my other cabinet. I installed them and stood the cabinet upright, next to my other roller... nowhere near the same height! So I measured, and found that the cabinets, not including the casters, are not the same height. Bummer, but they probably not be right next to each other anyway.

I know what you mean Galaxie, I guess we've both had enough rain for a while. I can't get my last drawer completed for fear of the rain. Do you have a thread on your project?

I guess photobucket thinks I'm stupid or something. They want me to pay 399 bucks to host photos to forums. That's why all my photos are gone! I'll say it again, pb *****!

It is really going to **** when people start going back to use threads as a reference to get info on how to do stuff.

I've seen that already in other old threads. Myself I was using GJ to store pictures. One bright day I deleted the album and first 100 to 150 post of my thread is missing pictures. That was my fault and nobody else's but still learned valuable lesson about hosting pictures somewhere else.

It's making me angry searching for things to find NO pictures. I really don't know if I should try to re-create the threads or not. So do you just use the advanced feature and upload pictures that way? I just tried that on a new thread, and it took a long time to load.

No I haven't. Those pictures I did old way taking picture on camera, upload to computer and upload to site. I never thought of backing or saving them after I uploaded them. I happen to find some on internet of my garage and posted before/ after pics. I didn't start many threads and kept a lot of projects in my garage thread. I also did a lot of work before I started on garage journal so when I move to next place it will be good to show a start to finish project.
