Yea heat gun... be gentle...

Been labeling drawers for forty years...

Eventually after the wrinkles come... the clear part of the label delaminates.

Before toolboxes... I used to label shelving for data backups... Before that data switches... Before that mag tape spools... Before that disk drives the size of washing machines...

Before that... boxes of computer punch cards.

OK, you made your point, I guess I will have to start flattening the magnetic tape out first. What about laying it on a metal surface, then applying the label?

I think I am about out of steam, got most of the **** from the cabinets off the floor, the fluids are just on top of one of the cabinets, but better than having them on the floor everywhere.

The good thing is that the fluids seem to be very expensive, looks like the ATF sells for about $85 for 6 quarts on the bay. I also have a local guy that deals with Mercedes cars, so I am thinking of checking with him first, see if he will make a decent offer for all of it, then I don't have to ship anything. I can't wait to start selling this stuff, it will be interesting to see how much I recoup, my cabinets are getting cheaper by the minute.

Lots of empty bins and the fluids are off the floor.

Someone has been busy. Isn't nice to have the drawers to put everything.
Thanks for posting pictures of label maker.

That label maker was stupid expensive, then it went on crazy sale and I had a huge coupon for it at staples. I actually have two, one for the house and one for the shop.

It doesn't feel like I got anything done, but I need to remember that it took a couple weeks to get the other cabinets situated. I think if I spend most of today putting things away and labeling drawers, I will feel a lot better about it.

The labels look great. Organization can be tedious work but will save you lots of time in the future when you are looking for that certain tool or part.

Well Strouty, you are the official Lista Ho!!!:rocker:

I mean, when you have two drawers with labels that read " Lista dividers and Lista parts", you are the Lista Man:bowdown:

So how many drawers did you end up with on the cabinets?

I think it was just over 200 drawers, then the sliding door cabinets with the stainless tops. I am happy with that. ;)

Well, I watched a few "Lean" videos and I think I am convinced, as soon as I get these tower plans submitted, I am going to do a huge clean out of the shop. I mean like everything goes out and only what I use comes back in. This will include certain projects, they may go entirely. Basically I am going to turn my shop into a workshop, I am not even sure if it has ever been one, that is why I didn't say "again". I will play around with my go pro cameras and see if I can get some time lapse of the process, should be interesting. I am still making progress on the organizing, although as I said before, nothing is going in any specific place yet, I am just labelling drawers and putting things away as I get to them. I ultimately want to have the like things with like things and then the specific things with the specific processes, but for now, this will clear up the floor and all flat surfaces.

Heh. First thing I was going to say was get those empty milk crates and totes OUT before you decide to put more **** in them and back on a shelf. Also why I was so vocal about getting the metal storage out of the shop too.

Honestly, there is such a thing as too lean. I like to have a couple projects going simultaneously as I get burnt out working on one thing all the time.

Although you have far more invested in storage than I would ever consider, I do believe that if you replace all the old storage with the Lista, you may finally be nearly content. You have spent the last three years trying to organize the shop with mixed results, make this push and just be done already.
No one is ever 100% happy with their shop layout, but getting away from FSD is the key to being happy when you flip on the lights.

Strouty, I have to admire what you have achieved so far, just awesome and an inspiration to all..

Thanks 1/2 Cup, I get lots of my motivation from the GJ. I have big plans, but it is a long process, that being said, the next few months should be an adventure.

Kev, definitely agree that there is a limit to the "lean", some of the videos I saw had shops that looked like you couldn't get anything done, at least not without many employees and lots of money. I am the first to admit that my perfectionist tendencies get the best of me, I am still working on that and I probably will be for a long time. There is a balance point, I just need to find it.

I like milk crates, but I don't have a milk crate fetish.

Thanks Dan!

I will have more pictures to post today, also have to get some of my tower project done and tonight I am working on my GF's car at my buddy's shop, so my shop time will be a bit more limited.

Yep, having enough drawers to effectively sort and store is nice. Having the drawers part of the same system, fantastic.
You're getting a lot done so that has to feel great. Any good "lean" videos you'd like to share?

I spent an hour outside with Clark and made things look much better. It is a calmer feeling overall, I hope to finish cleaning up the front yard this weekend. A few things can go away completely, then there are a few projects to do. I also need to figure out a good place for the military tires. Nothing to speak of inside the shop, but I am trying to beat any rain, so that is next.

I will post up some links after lunch, there are some that have great ideas, but the person making the video is a bit over the top and full of himself. Other than that, they are shop and warehouse tours. I think I will work on my book and video list, that way everyone has an idea of what I am up to.

I'm really enjoying watching you set up the Listas, I can't wait to get to that point. I need to lube and paint mine first or it'll never get done once I stock them.
Keep up the great work Strouty, it is really looking good. You'll conqer the rest as these cabs surely will motivate you to get the rest in place.

Thanks CB, long term goal will be to paint them before they get installed into the storage wall units, luckily they were well lubed, so I din't need to do much of anything in that respect. I am going to pull off all the stainless tops, then I am going to figure out how to remove the front doors, that will make the shelves easier to remove. Then I can pressure was everything and put them back together. I will probably end up with three or four of them inside the shop, then I will put one in the wood shop. I may make one on wheels, but I think the pallet jack is the better way to move them around, then the cabinet is stable and won't move if using it as a bench.

How did you like that little shower we had last night? I don't know about you, but I think we got about 2 inches of rain in less that 1 hour.

Yeah, I was working on a car late last night, fixed the main issue and think we figured out the intermittent problem as well. Found that my car has a blockage in the ac system, so we need to try and replace the expansion valve and maybe the dryer. I think I will do both of them anyways.
