You have to be careful with Kershaw. They make good higher end knifes in the US but also cheap china knifes too. Walmart has a selection of the china stuff. I bought one of the first flip out models in 1998 when they came out with them. It's a Ken Onion special edition w/carbon fiber handle and 440V blade. Lasted all that time and still clipped to my pocket 24/7
It's a great knife and the warranty/cleaning service from Kershaw is awesome.

You cant go wrong with any Kershaw knife. They have a no questions asked warranty. I have sold thier products for 6 years. I have sent in knives for warranty that have clearly been abused and they have replaced or repaired them every time.

Yeah I actually am embarrased to post this but I was using my Kershaw blade to hold a car door frame back so I could slip a coat hanger into it to unlock it when I got locked out. I had it at an angle where it wouldn't break the blade and of all ppl I told my mom to hold it and of course she gave it too much leverage and broke the tip off the blade.
I call Kershaw to order a replacement blade but they tell me no parts are sold to the public. She tells me to send it in and they'll send me a bill or call for CC auth. to fix it. (I told her I broke the tip off prying) I sent it in and exactly 7 days later it was repaired/cleaned and at my front door again. I called them asking if I owe them money and she said, "no charge"

I never bought a china knife from them but I expect they won't warranty those. My knife new was $150
That's entry level BTW compared to higher end knifes like benchmade.

I own several Ken Onion designed Kershaw knives (Leek, Chive, Scallion) as well as the Half Ton and a Spec-Bump. I have never had a problem with them, they stay sharp for a long time and it only takes a minute or two on a diamond hone to put a razor edge back on them when they start getting a little dull.

They are with me always (except when they ride in checked baggage) and are both tools to use and backup self defense devices. Yes, I would trust my life to them (that should tell you something). I have several custom carry knives and other semi-custom folders but I almost always reach for one of my Kershaws when getting dressed in the morning.

And Chadster, yes, a couple of those Kershaws have Snap-on printed on them...:)

Kershaw is a great company. I have a Nakamura, Centofante, and a Storm and they have been top notch. The price differences usually are due to the blade steel. The more exotic steels are going to add to the price.

Spyderco makes some nice stuff also. As with Keshaw their bottom end is Chinese and the better stuff is Japanese and American (Golden, Colorado).

Kershaws US knives are from Oregon.

Have you looked at CRKT? I've had the M16 Zytel http://www.crkt.com/M1604Z for almost 4 years now and it's been great. I don't know why it is $70 online, I bought mine for $53 in a shop. You won't be disappointed with CRKT, they're a little cheaper but still very rugged. I was going to buy a Kershaw but I didn't have the money. But whatever you choose, you'll still be getting a good knife.

Or you could get a KA-BAR :D

To the OP: I don't have an opinion on that knife or blade composition, but as others have stated Kershaw makes top-notch knives. I have a Ken Onion Blur (USA) and a Folding Field (Japan) and both are superior in construction, performance and feel. Used the Folding Field knife to gut a deer just yesterday.

Kershaw=great knives

I love my Kershaw Ken Onion Chive. I also have a Vapor II (one of the made in china Kershaws) and it's a fine knife for around $20. CRKT also makes some great knives. My M4 is awesome, although a bit large for EDC. My M16 is a tanto-combo blade (didn't think that one through) so I don't use it as much but it's a good value and lightweight.

I have this one for a year, it really taught me to be very careful handling it. it's a Leek, closest to an auto blade you can get. love it.

Got a Scallion and Whirlwind. Both assisted openers, are well made and have maintained their edge.

chad 8 years now selling kershaw and never a problem with warranty. I have had guys destroy them and kershaw ships a new one or if it is a special edition they fix what is wrong and gladly ship it right back.
I carry one daily. never leave home without it.

Thanks for the input. Your commets on the kershaw warranty pushed me over, I ordered me the knife. Also Kershaw is here in Oregon, less than 50 miles away from me

It will be replacing my leatherman knife that I've carried for years. I broke the tip and, just getting bored of it.. tired of sharping it.

I have several Kershaws, and I've given several as gifts. The ones I have close at hand are US Made 1660CKTST Leek partial serrated, a US Made 1550ST Blackout partial serrated, and a 1470ST Storm partial serrated. I also have a KE1720ST Junkyard Dog, which I don't care for the clip on but otherwise like. The Leek, Blackout, and Storm are all Ken Onion knives, and are my favorites out of a variety of knives.

I dont really like the looks of the clip on the junkyard II too.. but, I'm hoping I can find a different one to put on it.

Kershaw's are nice knives, but I'm a Benchmade fan...

I agree. Particularly the 9050 and 9051 AFO. Despite saying they only sell to military and police even the highest profile companies will ship to civilians for auto knives with no question. When I was a diesel tech the Matco guy had Kershaws on the truck and I always asked him if he could get some Benchmade knives. And I think the SOGs rival some Benchmade's especially the Tomcat. While both are a little more pricey than your average Kershaw they are worth the money. Im no metalurgist but I find that I like blades made from 154cm and the cheaper AUS8 steels. Those have worked the best for me and while Im no expert I am an amateur collector and know what I like.

Nothing substantial to add, but I do have a funny story (well, I think it's funny). About 20 years ago, a guy I worked with bought a new Kershaw, and he was very dissapointed that it was made in Japan. So, he had me use the LASER engraver at work to lase a certain four-letter word that starts with an F right in front of the word Japan on the knife blade.
