I'm putting a mezzanine in my 30' x 33' shop.

The setup:

Free-standing, S6x12.5 I-beam. Shaped like the "L" piece from Tetris. 30' wide overall, 10' deep for the left half, 6' deep for the right half. Back beam is [2] 14'6"ers to clear the center upright. Front beam is 20' on the right, 10' on the left. S6x17.25 from back to front, cantilevered at the 6' mark, allowing the 6' deep, 20' wide section to intersect the front to rear beam on an upright, and the front 4' to be unsupported where it intersects the 10' left beam so it does not impose more than necessary into the work space below. 20' span is supported in the center with a front to back beam on a single upright centered front to rear. Uprights are 3x3x.25 square tubes on 6" plates anchored to the slab with [4] redheads each.

The question:

I'll be putting 3/4 plywood on it as a deck. I want to use 2x6 lumber on edge as joists. Is there an off the shelf hanger that I can purchase? My dad recommended the hangers at home depot, but since they go over the top of the beam, the ply would not sit flat. Should I just say screw it and weld in angle iron every 24"? sounds OK for the 6' span, but the 10' is getting long for angle.

Are the joists going to sit on top of the beams or sit between the beams? Either way start with a 2x plate bolted or screwed to the top of the beams. If the steel is dropped then start with a rim joist, drop in floor joists and sheet. If the steel is flush use top flange hangers, drop in floor joists and sheet.

Not sure I completely understand but there are many joist hangers that do not have the top mount flange.

Start your search with [concealed joist hanger 2 x 6] without the brackets.

Would something like this work?

Do not simply look at what HD has on their shelves!!!

As recommended, vist the Simpson site. Along with all sorts of wood mounted items, they make weld on hangers. 2x6 as a joist is unusual though- especially combined w steel. 10 ft? At 24" oc?
