Picked this hunk out of a half full bucket of water. Figured I could use a project during the rain today. Wire brush and vinegar did the trick.

Very good work!

I'm not a fan of restoring to original vintage tools, but when they are this bad, once cleaned up and stripped of all the old gunk, I'd repaint it, at the very least just to protect it from new rust development. Spraybomb it red with black jaw and nut, it will look great and last another 50 years!

I'm with you but I rather enjoy taking things that would be considered unusable junk or scrap and making them usable again. I thought about painting it, but I think I'm going to leave it oiled in the white and let a patina form. I love the look of my grandfather's tools.
