What interested me was that the 1939 catalog had ratcheting wrenches - double box end. I always thought that these were a relatively new product. I don't remember ever seeing them in anyone's tool box. Granted, my exposure to pro. mechanics was limited when I was a kid, but I was surprised to find out that this tool has been around a long time.

Damn...how cool must it feel to have the only known example of a SO tool?

I'm surprised that the estimated selling price is not higher, being the only one of its kind.:headscrat

Some sets and tools didn't sell well, weren't made long, or perhaps were ahead of their time, and therefore only one or two have turned up in the known hands of collectors. Often however, these items are so are, that a lot of the less read collectors don't even know what they are, and therefore, they create less of a bidding war. The majority of the "only know example" Snap-on tools and sets are owned between Snapmom and I.

Well, that is g-darn awesome, simply stated. I am not a SO guy, but I am a man who appreciates history, and one-of-a-kind items are exciting.

Have you two posted pics of these various rarities on here before?

Well, maybe i made a mistake on the number of teeth. The discription is 84 bites and a 4 1/2 degree swing. 360 / 4.5 is 80. (84 would be a 4.28 degree swing) It would be interesting to know if there are 2 pawls 1/2 tooth off.

In any case it is listed in the 1948 Catalog S page 20.

Frank
(PS - It is my web site, so if it is wrong, it is also my mistake)
