Nothing for me either today.
Took my nephew for another tag along.
This one went better.
Stayed dry, no golf balls, and well behaved.
Took him to McD's for French fries as a reward.
He fell asleep in the car seat on the way home, with a death grip on his bag 'o fries.

3baygarage:

Found a site that collects info on "special markings" on the Dietz Model 40 Traffic Gards.

Said that Dietz required purchaser to buy minimum of 12 dozen (144) in order for them to build the special markings onto that lantern.

Here is link to that site.

http://www.camerasandlanterns.com/trafficgard/40-owner.htm

Mike

Pretty cool they are documented.

I found a Dietz lantern in my garage before I moved. Didn't even know it was there. Probably common one but actually I wanted to ask Outlaw the lantern man about it and didn't have the chance. It is small and blue is all I remember. That's one item I left with family. If I can get the info off it that would help. Wasn't in great shape.

Nothing for me either today.

Last pic was the surprise, as the base was too dirty for me to read it, when first got it.
To avoid a citizen's arrest, just send that lamp to me, mike, and I'll make sure it gets back to the City of Columbus, no questions asked.

...no golf balls...

Edit: People who don't read this thread religiously are scratching their heads right now, like, 'these guys aren't even funny.'

Not much today. OTC pickle fork (1940's) and another addition to the research library. The postal code on the hardware store catalog is no earlier than 1943 and no later than 1963. Also has an old telephone exchange based number on the title page inside (BArclay 7-0410-11-12-13). Based on the contents, I'm guessing also 1940's.

It's "catalog 51", so I'd assume that it's from 1951.

For those not old enough, here is a link for a chuckle.

Went out on Friday in morning to hit a few sales.

Pic 1--Misc lathe tools. Three on Right are marked Craftsman. Far Left is Ohio Tool marked. One to right of Ohio Tool is not marked.

Pic 2--Three chisels. Far right one is Stanley. Middle one is Ohio Tool. While far left one looks like it says Old Easy, but I'm not sure.

Pic 3--Delta Powerlite Lantern

Pic 4--Dietz Little Wizard Lantern New York

Pic 5 & 6--Dietz Model 40 Syracuse New York. No "special markings" on this Dietz Model 40.

Pic 7--Yesterday's yellow "special markings" Dietz Model 40, meeting today's no "special markings" Model 40.

Unfortunately, me too!

It was very common to use the last two digits of the year to identify catalogs.
I wouldn't say very, ttpete. In fact, I've been tripped up more often than not making the opposite mistake of assuming it was a year and it was not. Crescent Catalog 24C (published in 1941) being a good case in point. One quick scan through Twertsy's compendium of catalogs on The Tool Archives site would probably reveal it's about 50/50, if I had to guess. I haven't found the convention to be true of hardware store catalogs either. Having said that, you're right that plenty of them are, it is the most obvious conclusion, and it very well could be 1951. That jives with all my other analysis just fine. I was thinking late 40's but 1951 is within the realm of the probable based on everything else I looked at. So, thanks. Wm. L. Blumberg was established in 1920, by the way.

Thanks bluebolt for the reply - I did look and the GT s have a few numbers and FoMoCo stamped on em but the red emblem nothing - didn't have much luck doing a quick search on em so they might be box bound. Another estate sale a week or 2 ago advertising a lot of tools - didn't get much. I have been working on the AC system of an old dodge truck I just picked up so I snagged the gauges , couple cool looking wrenches tru fit and billings and at least a dozen people walked right by the Snap on 3/8 breaker on the table (heck I spotted it in the photos on the internet) not bad for $12 - thinking my gauges are missing a valve handle ? Haven't used them yet but I feel more professional with them hanging in the garage haha.

Post up the numbers on the GT letters, I can decipher them. The red badge is probably a repro and that is why it does not have numbers.

I'm still behind on updates. 2 weeks ago I stopped by an estate sale that had wrenches and sockets from this Craftsman USA made plastic tool organizer in several different lots . After spending $26 I had it mostly filled and pretty much completed it with stuff from my spares. Sold it to a buddy right away for a carry around tool box..

Then on the way home I stopped by an antique store and picked up this Nye Tool Works Chicago 4 leg pipe vise base and a Yost pipe vise for $20.

Then last weekend I hit an Estate sale on the first day and spent $59 on the following.

Pic 1: Top to bottom, Crescent pliers and wrenches, Sears/Craftsman tools including a Saltus wrench, Blackhawk and Barcalo wrenches. The Craftsman Saltus wrench duplicates one I already have of course, still looking for a few more.

Pic 2: Top to bottom, fold out drill bit holder, Williams, Vlchek, Thorsen, Indestro, Husky

Pic 3: Top to bottom, import stuff that will go into the garage sale box, file, odds and ends,

Quick post. I was supposed to be on the Maine Turnpike hours ago, but I still haven't loaded the trailer yet.

The delay was caused, among other things, by a listing for a return to a honey hole from last month. The one where I got the ramps and chain cutter from. Couldn't miss the last chance to dig further into the garage. This time, there were spots where you could actually see the floor. Here's the haul :

$40
unknown 12"deep side/wall cabinet (cheaply made) (could be an unmarked Cman)
3/8" fuel line (didn't measure how long. More than I'll need)
3 - blocks of 12x12 beam (the tall one is solid)
2 - scaffold feet
Craftsman 9-3230 Hold Down set (NIB)
Craftsman 9-19595 sliding grinder attachment for flattop Block Grinders (nearly NIB)

Not exactly a garage sale find but I think its worthy of being here. I bought this stuff on ebay. Paid $50 with $16 shipping.

It's almost all SK with a few Indestro and Craftsman -v- pieces mixed in. The one 3/8 ratchet is not SK.

1/2 socket set
2 3/8 socket sets
1 1/4 Daytona Special socket set
3/8 drive deep set (not sure the box manufacturer)
3/8 SK torque wrench
1/2 SK breaker bar
3/8 Indestro Speeder

I was worried it was a scam ad but it apparently wasn't. After delivery the seller sent me a message to enjoy and that these were the first socket sets he owned bought in the 1970's

I had planned on going to this sale early to get a street number... but I ended up sleeping in.

I got there about 10:30, it was really picked over. But I looked behind a framed NASCAR poster on top of a toolbox and there was the speeder...

I have often lucked into things that people missed. Some things are meant to be...

The SK was not part of the $6 at the estate sale.

I buy the NOS SK from Kitts on 8 mile. He bought most of it in 1985. This set was made in 1989.

Nothing for me this morning. Had a bunch of sales mapped out but nothing came of it. Number of sales was sort of low but that's likely because of the holiday weekend. And I get to miss next weekend since I'm going home.

Almost bought a UAP Napa wall parts cabinet but ended up not doing so. Now I regret it of course. Oh well.

This posts a little different from the tools but every now and again some odd stuff comes along. It first started a few weeks ago stopping at an unplanned gg sale. I came across some body armor plates and what looked to be a vest. Military family getting rid of some unneeded stuff so I asked how much for the plates and vest ?? Dunno so I throw out a ten dollar offer that was accepted. Later on that day I find out I have the plates and 2 deltoid protectors but no vest. At least they said they would be having 2/3 more sales in the next comming weeks. I went back a week or 2 later and the vest is hanging there (amongst your usual baby/junk/knickknack/ driveway drive by sale). Well this time the guy was there and he seemed like I got too good of a deal on the plates but anyways got the vest for another 20. Last weekend at an estate sale came across the condor tac belt and Blackhawk drop holster - not pictured is a Spector m14/m1a sling (these all brand new) all for $20. So I just got a pretty sweet setup for $50 if your into that sort of thing. I think outlaw you asked me awhile back about a gun rack - it holds a Benjamin air rifle I picked earlier this year (and another) and is hanging in my closet right over this setup.

Ecotec,
That's a you **** find on that speeder ratchet. I don't think I've ever seen one in person.

brettjull,
That's a really cool hammer.

I managed to get a few things. Blue Point DMM $2, Wiha precision screwdriver set - $5, SO 3 jaw puller $10, MAC breaker bar $5, T&B Crimper $2 and real leather belts - $1/ea.

I hate fake store bought leather belts that are more like cardboard then genuine leather.

One good pro estate sale this weekend and one TOO with a few tools, other than that not many sales with real mechanic type tools.

From the pro sale, two TUBELOX scaffolding ratchets which I have no use for but thought were interesting and a never used Craftsman Pro stubby wrench set and an orphan Craftsman line wrench $22

From a TOO, old school MAC torque wrench and Xcelite SAE nutdriver set $16

I totally forgot about this $10 find from the local Re-Store on Friday . It's kind of rough but the history more than makes up for it for me. I'll still clean her up and maybe re-line the drawers but all in due time..

Nice scores guys! I see a ton of suckage price-wise in this last page here!

Brettjull I've never noticed a tape with a sinker before but I bet you are right on with your assessment. Depth of something. Cool.

JACKVEGAS: Thai SK score is primo congrats on that I'm still trying to find a nice 1/2" set myself..
Here is what I managed to pick from a crazy big tool sale. I could have easily spent hundreds of dollars but managed to escape for only $4085445b2ba7b6850f048e498ecf919c82.jpg
I went there looking for bench vises but didn't pick up any but I got 1 Stanley and 1 Champion wood vise.

A nice Chicago Rawhide hammer

A pair of Berylco lineman pliers, A 7" Billings & Spencer Co. Bicycle wrench,
And a really cool metal tape with a 4" brass sinker, I assume for checking tank depths.

That tape with sinker is for measuring the amount of fluid in a tank. We use them on ships for measuring fuel.
