Do All Snap-On 3/8 ratchets use the same ball for pawl?

Last night I was cleaning a Snap-On FK830 and, wouldn't you know it, even using the SO ratchet rebuild tool the dang ball for pawl sprang (sprung?) out & is now lying somewhere in the garage. Chances of finding it are about slim to none. I generally reassemble small spring-loaded parts inside a clear plastic bag so nothing gets away from me, but I guess that's a lesson I need to learn YET AGAIN...

Anyway, I have a repair kit on the way so I can fix this particular ratchet, but at some point I'm going to rebuild what was my dad's F720 (now mine) so I'll have at least one more chance to lose a tiny part. I'd like to order a few extra balls, springs, etc. to have on hand in case it happens again. They're cheap enough, so I'd probably buy several.

Does anyone know if all SO 3/8 ratchets use the same ball? Can I use one of the ones on this page? If so, which one?

They all use the same ball. Some of the newer repair kits have the "ball" made on to the end of the spring. I am not sure what the part number is for the ball. I have always just ordered the entire kits.

I have one and have used it many times on my Craftsmans and other brands.

I magnetized it to hold the ball, but that did not work out well. So now I put a dab of grease to hold the ball. I have used it on 1/2" Craftsmans.

Sears also has their version, and I am going to ask Adam if he can give me one. Other tool companies have their own version but I do not know what they look like.

<sigh> I lost another two balls from two different ratchets this weekend. So far I'm batting zero with rebuilding these things, even with the tool. I'm going to take a break and see if I can find some extra ball bearings.

I also am having trouble with the rebuild kits. They come with the ball captive on the spring, but when I get the ratchets reassembled (properly, according to the instructions) and lubed with Superlube I can't move the selector from "on" to "off". There's too much resistance no matter how hard I push, and I don't want to force it. The design of the new captive ball seems different than the old ball bearing. These are both sealed head ratchets (FK830 and F731).

Anyone else have difficulty with the rebuild kits or is it just me?? :headscrat

I measured the diameter of the rebuild kit plunger this morning at 0.156", which is 5/32. McMaster-Carr here I come.

Still can't figure out the rebuild kit not working...

I have had to cut the spring to shorten it sometimes.
