Box like that at an estate or garage sale would probably go for around $10 - $20 max.

The Rickster lays down the 411. I am glad that I passed, then.

Damn shipping! I want an old box project for the winter, and for more storage! :willy_nil

In the auction they say it weighs 18 pounds. For that range, I'd expect to pay 15-20 bucks. Anything more than that is marked up shipping, or a seller that's inexperienced. . Unless you're on one side of the country and they're on the other. then a little more.

I had missed the weight info in the auction.

He's in OH, I am in MA, so it is a ways between us.

I guess I need to find the time to go to an auction or estate sale here. It's so inconvenient, though, with a little one at home to take care of! I like shopping via the good ol' internet:bounce:

Way over priced, 10 bucks sounds about right, maybe a little less, here's a $20 box, 3 drawer with drop lid and tray (plus it had tools in it).

Stick to garage sales, estate sales, flea markets and occasionally craig's list. Be patient and know what you want to spend and the deals will come along eventually.

I'm going to keep my eyes open for some of those "vintage" Craftsman boxes and sell them on eBay.

What? No! Sell them to me, your GJ pal!

I was just goofing, that's why I put the quotes around vintage, I'm just surprised he's asking that much for a rusted out tool box. If he gets $20 for that thing plus shipping I'd be shocked.

I'm eager to see this...when do you anticipate posting it?

And Mickey, the one in the auction isn't rusted out....it's a great candidate for a resto with some surface rust from what I can see.

I sold a NOS one to a guy at work with minor rust on the bottom for $25.00 earlier this year and tossed in a few basic hand tools.

Keep looking, there are better deals, Craig's List is a good source to get expensive to ship items at good prices.

I bought one just like this new in the late 70's and still have it today. I restored it a few years ago, I love those 'vintage' Craftsman boxes - the hammered Grey with red drawers!

Has anyone found a matching paint for the early Cman gray? Waterloo wants $17 for a spray can:(

I have the box above bought new early 70s and a top and bottom roller. The early Cman boxes for $10- $100 depending on size and condition are a great buy for home use.

Bull, this thing is just sitting around my shop. It is yours for the shipping if you want it. Dont know who made it, there is a little heart with SW in it. A little small and rough but it is straight and stout.

What?! Are you serious? That would hold quite a few of the tools in my basement, if I am accurately using the large tires for scale.

Now for the clincher...can you, at your leisure, tell me what shipping would be to me here at 01002?

We've got another fine and generous member here, folks:thumbup:

SW with a heart would be Stanley if I'm not mistaken.
Whatever it is though it looks like a nice vintage box to store vintage tools.

I used Rust-Oleum Hammered spray cans on all the boxes - 2-drawer, top and bottom roll-around. Nice color match. I think it was 7213830 - Silver, but might have been 7214830 - Gray.

I want to try 7219830 - Verde Green. I've seen others use it on SUN test equipment resto with great results.

I hope that helps.
