I'm thinking of buying a 1 ton shop crane for moving equipment around the shop. With a coupon, HF has them for $99 through the end of the month. There are two versions currently available.

They are similar, but have a number of size differences. In general the #69512 is a little smaller. My garage is pretty cramped, so the smaller size is appealing.

I looked at the HF Pass/Fail thread and there are mostly good reviews of the 1 tone crane, but unfortunately almost no one bothers to mention the item number, so I don't know which one their comments apply to. There are also earlier version number that are now obsolete. My local store is currently out of stock, but may got more in later this week, but I don't know which version.

So does anyone have experience with either of the current 1 ton models?

Either one should be fine. Inspect it on the spot for broken welds. Avoid the older orange ones, upgrade the chinesium bolts they come with to grade 5 or 8 and for easier use either get a double acting ram or buy the air assisted ram they have in store.

Yes, those specs and the width difference are what I noted. I'm only a mile from the store, so not a big deal to inspect it at home. Better bolts are a great idea.

I used to have a 2 ton, but sold it when it kept getting in the way. This past weekend I had to unload a 360 lb welder from my truck and wished I still had it. So with the $99 coupon in hand, I ran over to the HF store to pick one up. Out of stock - Damn. I got it unloaded, just took more grunt work. But since they are on sale, I want to grab one and be prepared for the next time I need to move something heavy.

I recently bought one to replace the engine in my explorer. I bought the 1 ton #61858 instead of the 2 ton because it had a higher lifting range. I'm glad I did because I needed every inch. It worked great for removal and install. I also bought the cheaper load leveler #67441 made the install a breeze. One other thing, be sure to pick up some hydraulic fluid because the ram doesn't have much in it. I used the whole container that's sold at harbor freight. I think it's a pint bottle. Also grease the threads on the load leveler if you get one.
