So lots has been happening this past week.
First: I'm back to being my old self again
Second: Went to the Pomona swap meet last weekend and scored on several different pieces

The biggest one was this old wooden carved butler mannequin. He needs to be repaired and touched up

IMG_1024 by don long, on Flickr

The repairs have been done. A crack on his head, a broken finger extended, a crack down the middle of the body and a crack on his left foot

IMG_1030 by don long, on Flickr

IMG_1027 by don long, on Flickr

IMG_1031 by don long, on Flickr

I forgot to take pic's after the bondo went into the cracks. He is at the sign painters shop for touch up before he goes in the barber shop as the barber.

Today I got a call from my neon guy telling me the Fatburger sign is done so I hooked up my trailer and buzzed over to pick it up.

The neon looks pretty good he lit the sign up for me before we loaded it up

IMG_1033 by don long, on Flickr

Tomorrow I will put on the letter caps and hang the sign in the Ice cream shop.

Application on the way.

What no In-n-Out Burgers? Nice sign and I guess the diner will be adding fat burgers to the menu.
I see the butler must have been a potty mouth and got kicked in the jewels a few times. lol.

I have spent the last few days converting space in the party garage to an ice cream parlor.
I have enlisted the help of my cousin again (the concrete guy) to help me build up this area and tonite this is where we are.
The Fatburger sign is hung and lit.

IMG_1064 by don long, on Flickr

I covered the ugly brown wall with white wainscot and will trim it out with red molding.

We also have framed in the coke sign and will add wainscot on the top along side the sign and cover the lower area with stainless steel like a kitchen

IMG_1071 by don long, on Flickr

That's my cuz sitting down admiring our work. The main electrical panel sits behind the door. That seamed easier than building a wall around it.

Looks really good, Don! And using a door for panel access is a great idea. It will be a good test for whether any guests have had too many, when they use that door looking for the restroom.

Don good to see you back on line. I sure do love neon lights. Wish I knew how to work with the stuff I would make some of my own. Let me see now that would mean I would have to live to 104 unless I scratch some of my other projects?

That door is my lazy mans way to keep from messing with the buildings electrical system not to mention that i didn't think that I could stretch the double ott wire coming into the building.

I'm thinking of hanging around to be 140 to finish most of my projects.
I watch my buddy work with the neon tubes and it's quite the project.
I'm only good at breaking it.

I am back 100% and it feels great. I spent the last few days building walls weinscot and Painting and hanging trim pieces for the Ice cream shop.

Thanks to all who stop in to see what's happening around here.
I do appreciate it a bunch.

Good to hear your back running on all cylinders.
Is the wall you just painted the outside or inside of ice cream parlor? Never mind, you'll be done shortly and we'll all be able to enjoy.

Well it's been a few days of hard HOT work but the ice cream parlor is starting to take shape.
Here is where we are as of this afternoon.

IMG_1128 by don long, on Flickr

IMG_1127 by don long, on Flickr

The glass blocks will create the end wall and will be back lit and I have black and white tile for the floor.

That will be my projects next week. So the place is getting closer but what a mess of dust I have to clean up on all the cars and displays.

I'm so glad you're going to live to 140, if you'll do it I'll do it. Maybe I can come see you in 2060 when the good old '60's start turning 100 :)

Hi Don,

The ice cream parlor is looking good. My Granddaughters, who you met a couple of years ago when we visited, are convinced it is time to visit again. Too much new stuff to miss. My bride and I are going to be down your way this fall and we hope to catch up with you and Ann along the way. Take care. Al

"Sprite boy" looks like he likes the new view:thumbup: I still see empty wall space, which I'm sure will find some new ice cream deco.

The empty wall and space is yet another unused pallet awaiting the master artists touch. I have full trust that Don and Ann will surprise us with yet another cool project. :rocker:

Hi Al
It has been a while since your last visit and the place has surely changed a bit so Just give us a heads up when you are close by.
I just spent the day shopping thru some antique stores trying to find stuff to fill those blank walls mentioned.

"Sprite boy" looks like he likes the new view:thumbup: I still see empty wall space, which I'm sure will find some new ice cream deco.

Herb
I have managed to break another neon tube that belongs to "Sprite Boy"
So he looks a bit weak with only half the light.
I'm on a quest now for good Ice cream stuff to fill up the joint

Just dropping in to try and catch up. Let's see, since I visited last.... garden sheds and planters, more farm implements, a Porter Power set, A FREAKIN mountain lion visit, a new T hot rod to further intimidate and make the Zephyr jealous, a cruise, a hospital stay, an ice cream parlor complete with a fatburger neon sign and now a missile to show them N Koreans you ain't playin around and I'm sure I probably missed remembering SOMETHING but I think we all get the point, I've been away TOOOO long.
The hospital stay part scared me. So good to hear you are back up and going. Please take care and "try" and relax more. But knowing you, doing what you do is relaxing, to you.
Found the part about the purple heart Vietnam guy you befriended to be very interesting. Quite a guy, I would love to meet him some day.
Hope to check in more often in the near future as I am about to get moving on my build again and will be around here more. Look forward to following more of your great finds and restorations.

That's quite an impressive collection.
Hope you tell Chip to stop by when you see him.
See you in November

Good luck getting your building done it looks great

We had a big scare here yesterday.
The power co. decided to replace 2 of the power poles that are on my property (behind the party garage) so on Saturday morning the trucks showed up about 6 A.M. and started work by turning off our power. By 2 P.M. the poles were up and the power restored. Within 30 minutes of the power turned back on, the trees that stand between our house and the party garage (4 of them) were smoking. Heavy blue smoke was billowing from the tree tops. I dialed 911 and reported the problem and within 5 minutes fire and police had arrived.
The fire men stood by each tree and as burning tree leaves and limbs fell they put out the fire. (the trees are on the property line so the neighbors were notified)The police just toured the party garage while waiting for the power co. About 30 minutes of tree smoke and embers falling the power was shut off and the pole crew was back in the yard and up the poles. While the power co. pulled the wires tight a tree crew was here topping the trees.

IMG_1135 by don long, on Flickr

IMG_1136 by don long, on Flickr

By 8 P.M. the problem was solved and the power restored again.
The pole crew forgot to pull the wires tight from the 1st pole to the house and the wires were resting in the trees.

As I mentioned earlier the Ice cream parlor is almost finished

IMG_1138 by don long, on Flickr

The black and white tile really pop. I still need to build the front wall with glass block and have the broken neon tubes repaired.
Now I,m on the hunt for ice cream related signs. I picked up a 3' thermometer
and 2 flange signs so far.

IMG_1140 by don long, on Flickr

I raised the lights to show off the pedal cars

I pray that all you Florida guys are safe.

REALLY?!?!?! What, did they send the apprentices out to do the work??

Shoddy workmanship like this could lead to loss of life and property. There is no excuse.

Sorry for the rant but this is inexcusable IMHO.

Certainly not the typical power company project.

Certainly the typical Don Long project on the parlor.

Having a police appreciation function could get you a top of the heap response in the future. I'm sure they appreciated the Party Garage and would also like to have a little function there. Not that you need more to do.
