I went to an auction Saturday and now I have two oxy acetylene setups, both are on Harper carts. One is the "side by side" variety and the other is the "front to back" type. I only need one here in my home shop and will take the other to my cabinet shop. We have a back room where we do the occasional welding on a granite counter top support, it would be nice to have a torch to bend the odd piece of strap.
All I have ever used in the past is the "side by Side". Both carts are in very good condition but the "side by side" was purchased new and sat in a storage room for many years before I bought it for $15. I paid $240 for the "front to back" setup with an extra set of bottles, two sets of gauges, 3-25' sections of hose, 1-50" hose and three torch bodies with 3 cutting attachments and 11 welding tips-all Victor. I have a new looking Victor medalist set with brand new hoses that I'll keep at home.
Which kind do you prefer and Why?
Both my home shop and cabinet shop are really cramped for space but I'll probably move it around and use it at home more often if that makes a difference.
