Help Me Decide: Williams or Wright Metric Wrench Set

As stated in the title, I'm looking to add a full matching set to my collection that expands on some of the smaller and larger sizes which are not covered in my Snap On 10-19mm set (extra long flank drive versions). The two sets im considering are Williams MWS-18a (7-24mm supercombo) and Wright 958 (7-24mm wright grip). Links to both below. Price is close enough to where it's not a factor, both are made in the USA. These will be used at home, mostly to wrench on cars.

I have one Wright wrench in my tool box and it's a quality piece that feels good in the hand and has great fitment on the fastener. The only draw back I see is that both the open and box ends are considerably thicker than a similarly sized Snap On wrench. I favor sockets and only use wrenches where clearance is an issue. Currently leaning towards the Williams set, but would like to hear pros and cons of each.

One last point, I like my Snap On wrenches, but find the beam to be a little thin. I've read on here that Williams have a similar beam to old Bonney wrenches, which i think feel great in hand.

I have a Metric wright grip set, my beef is they are short. Not sure how they compare in length to Williams. I doubt you can go wrong with either one. Wright made in the USA, Taiwan for Williams???? Not sure on that

If you only have one set of wrenches, maybe not Wright. Don't get me wrong..I love my wright grips. However they can and do leave marks on fasteners.

If you like more slender wrenches for clearance work I would look at stahlwille, facom - mac . I got set of wrightgrip but my stahlwille longs get used most as way easier on clearance and real good fit and feel .

I have some of both and like the full polish Wright's more but neither of them more than my blue point chrome wrenches over hand feel I like the thicker smooth beams. My snap on set goes down to 7mm but they make 6mm I just don't need one my bluepoint set goes down to 8.

I was torn on the same question a few months back. So I ordered one of each in a common size for me (1/2") and tried them out. For me, I prefer the thicker beam and slight extra length of the Williams. Nothing at all wrong with the Wrights, just my personal preference.

How does the thickness of the open and box ends compare between the two?

I have the stahlwille deep box set, high quality and fit on the fastener is exceptional, but not a fan of the thin beams.

I own both wrightgrip and williams supercombos.

To start off, if you're looking for a long pattern wrench, skip the wrightgrip and get the supercombos. the wrightgrips are more of a standard length wrench.

The supercombos have nice thick beams but, they're kind of club like in larger sizes.

the wrightgrip is an excellent standard length wrench but, their boxed ends aren't uniformly made at the same angle.

The modified nonslip open end on the supercombo is like a notch whereas wrightgrip uses teeth.

Both brands will serve you well. I think wright is making a huge mistake not producing a long pattern wrightgrip wrench series. :wtf:

One last point, I like my Snap On wrenches, but find the beam to be a little thin.

They do that so you can roll the wrench over quickly in your finger tips for getting a new angle on every turn when using the open end -- they make them thin and wide for that reason. If you notice, their box end wrenches are a lot thicker -- that's because you're not working an open end.

Go with Wright. Some of my smaller sized Williams (7/16, 1/2) wrenches will spread some. Haven't had that issue with my Wright wrenches.

I have both, you would be happy with either. The Williams USA have letters and numbers in the product number, the all nunbers are not.The larger Williams are more club like to me.The Wrights are a bit thinner and shorter which I kind of like. For me I also have Proto, and they would also be a excellent choice. The USA brands are so competitive with each other. They want you to buy once and totally be happy. They will do the job with out problem. If you buy cheap, you will probably someday upgrade to one of these brands any way,go this way and be done. They instill pride and professionalism everytime I use mine.I also have all three brands,I do my own little sitiuations test.Good Luck in your decisions and purchase.
