Next Thursday the 5th. I don’t plan on attending, but I would like to see a couple of my auction friends. That is the only time we really see each other and I did not attend the last few. I haven’t seen anything that I need or even want so that is good. A couple of years ago that statement would not ring true.

I forgot about one more tool box I have to grab, it needs to be unloaded first, but that shouldn’t take too much effort.

Yesterday inside the shop felt ice cold, this morning is so much cooler, the inside now feels like an oven. Go figure.

Working inside for a bit, then going out to get the remainder of the big auction items loaded. Then I have to go through every drawer/shelf I own and pull out miscellaneous ****. You know, the stuff I don't care about, the stuff I don't even know what it is, that stuff.

The ramps were probably the best thing on the trailer, I hardly ever had them on it, so they were in really good shape. The trailer has been beaten into submission several times, then neglected for years. It needed all new brakes, the axles have been bent due to overloading, the wiring and lights needs a complete overhaul, and the tie down locations and style ****. It needed a few more things I am sure, definitely needed paint and the rear of the deck needed to be reattached. I let it go, for some reason the Keenan auctions bring good money for trailers. I bought it new, it owed me nothing, but I wasn't about to put all the money and effort into a restoration when the trailer is too light duty and really the wrong style for me. I figured this out first thing this morning when I was trying to load the double stacked lista cabinet, I couldn't get to where I needed because of the fenders. I need a deck-over style and at least 12k GVW.

Ahh yeah that's a ton of work needed.

Auctions are wierd about what gets money. Some stuff goes for more then new others they can't give away.

I am tempted to go to this one but I really don't neeeeeed anything......
I'd like a backhoe, tractor or skidsteer but don't have a justification for that.

Stop enabling Jake, he has will power, leave him alone!

If I attend, it will be more for curiosity, but the last time I did that, the cat died.

Now I have to go out and brave the heat, I have too many things scattered everywhere and it is supposed to rain tomorrow. I am looking forward to cooler weather, it seems to up my productivity more than humidity and heat do. In the end, I brought about 250 square feet worth of stuff to the auction. A few thousand square feet to go! I almost told you guys what my afternoon plans were in detail, but I can't ruin it for myself, so I gave the overall idea. My lists are much more detailed.

If you decide to go to the Keenan Auction, let me know, I would stop in for a visit at least.

I am totally dragging my feet, got to get outside and do something.

I already addressed that. :see:

One of the trucks has an awful draw on the electrical system, used it yesterday and did not use the disconnect, battery won't start the truck now. I am getting that overwhelmed feeling again. :wtf:

As much as I want to take the time to organize the conex, it is much too hot to do it today. I am just going to "place" things erratically for future organizing therapy sessions. I did get a few more "tools" to help organize my Lista drawers, I should have ordered these a while ago. I am also sure I will need to order many more of them. [emoji6]

My cable cutter showed up this morning, looks like it may have been used once. One of the things I brought to the auction was an older cabinet that housed the porta power tools, now I have to find a good place for them as well. Also been looking at all my plastic and nylon stock, I think I am going to bring it all out back to store it rather than inside, just seems like wasted space.

So I spent a few hours inside, got most of the paperwork for tomorrow done. After it cooled off a bit I went out and did a fairly quick cleanup, just in case it does rain, either way I am ready. In the morning I will drop off the last of the auction items. I had thought about collecting the miscellaneous items and making a pallet of them, but really they never bring much money and I think the effort is not worth it. Instead I am going to use the dumpster liberally.

Strouty, I am real impressed with the progress you have made this week.

I say that you go to the auction, just leave all forms of payment at home including DL that way you can't get the fever and buy anything.

I did that for a contractor buddies retirement auction a few years back, I only brought enough cash for a couple of hot dogs and drinks. I had already had a chance to go though his stuff and buy what I needed so I was not overly tempted, but the bug is always there.

Posting a video of my auction scores now should be available in about 3 hours.

The problem is I know the auctioneers and they would let me bid even without signing up.

Next week I start figuring out all the tower steel fabrication. Luckily I don’t have to do it, I just need to make sure the parts will work as designed, we are adding larger braces to upgrade the capacity of the tower.

I really want to get the shop so I can bring the newest truck inside and start working on it. It needs a full deck of brakes and the air bag module seems to be bad. I can finally play with my new scan tool as well, that should be fun.

Definitely cooler today, auctioneer said I can bering a few more things over later if I find more stuff. I figure I will go about my gutting of the boxes and if I find something, then great, if not, who cares. Not this guy!

The funny thing is that I found I have no M18 drills, I have just about every other type of tool, but not one drill. At least I can use the Fein drill until I buy a replacement. My long term goal for cordless is to only have M18 and M12 so I can use the one style charger, it just feels like the best approach to me.

Now I have to start really prepping the yard for winter, I don't want to get caught short like I have the last couple of years. Also need the shop cleaned out so it will be usable, that is probably the most important thing, otherwise what's the point of having it?

While investigating various containers in one of the storage boxes, I have come to the conclusion that just being in the boxes is overwhelming. Almost every shelf and every bin has some portion of a project, or a part that I want to use for a project. I go from upbeat to beaten down in a matter of minutes. After dragging several things to the doorway I ended up sitting down for a "few" minutes, it turned into a 40 minute what if session. After I get the stuff I dragged forward out, I am going to do this one box at a time and if the box is miscellaneous, I will drag it out to go through it. I am getting my tape and marker to label anything that I change or the boxes that are not already labeled. Wish me luck, I think I am going to need it.

I pop in to check out the GJ and someone posts a crazy deal on a tool, next thing I know, I bought a tool. The only good thing is within 5 minutes of buying the new one, I sold the old one. So I am offsetting costs a bit and upgrading the tool. I figure that seems rational, right? ;)

Back to the storage boxes I go.

Keep your eyes open for tool storage Stro... you might need some if you buy more tools... oh wait... LMAO ... nevermind ... what was I thinking.

Done with my surgery ... wife had hers done too ... I have to wait 10 days for the biopsy ... wife had hers done right there... hers is clean. Mine should be ok... found out the original issue was the "Color" of the growth... this surgery was just to make sure there was none of that "funk" left.

Strouty, if it helps any This morning I went out to the shop and took a good look at my project list and erased 2 of them, then I boxed up the parts that I had collected specifically for those projects and put them on Freecycle. A guy was there within an hour to collect the stuff I no longer needed, didn't mind giving it away, freed up some space and honestly they were projects that would have kept getting pushed to the end of the list even if I had all the parts needed.

Been several hours now and I have no regrets at all.

So when you are cleaning stuff out evaluate the projects not just the parts and if it is something that you aren't really going to do let it go.

I am still working through my project lists, I have not done the outlying ones yet, just the ones that need to be done in the relatively near future. I think I may go out in the storage boxes with pen and paper and just write up every project, dream, or idea I have based on what I see for "supplies". Doing this may seem like wasted effort, but it will let me stand back and see the big picture of the mess of projects I have. If I can guestimate time and money to finish them, then maybe I will realize that I won't even want to do the project in 25 years when I can finally get to it. :willy_nil

I took out several tubs of stuff, now I have to go through it. I saw several things that were useless, some that were questionable, and a few that I was looking for. It isn't suppose to rain until Friday night, so I am going to leave a bit of a mess outside, just because if I pick everything up tonight, it will ruin my momentum for tomorrow, or I am just being lazy, you pick. ;)

As for the idea of two out for one in, well I have far exceeded that, I think I dropped off 10 cordless tools at the auction, then selling the one I am actually replacing should give me bonus points! :D

When I look at the overall mess of stuff, there is quite a bit that is tower related, I used to use it, but hardly ever do now. I used to have quantities that made it worth holding on to so you would not need to wait for shipping. Now most of the items are small quantities and I would have to place a large order to meet the amount needed for a job. I also have been doing less and less jobs and the space trade off is getting worse and worse. I think it is time to slim my supplies down, I hate to scrap the stuff, but any effort to try and recoup money would be worse than not touching it at all. There are a few items that I would save and some that should and could be sold, but the other stuff should just go, I think I am at the proper point in life to make that happen.

You have a lot more stuff than I do, and I'm not in a skilled trade per say for my occupation... but I suffered the same way you do. Just the other night I discovered 3 partial 1000' boxes of Cat5 wire in my garage attic from when I rewired my house 17 years ago. One box is probably very close to new... at least 850' of wire. The others each have 400-500'. Well, in 17 years times have changed. I have no plans to add any more Cat5 runs to my house and if I do I would pull Cat5e or Cat6... so it's either being offered to an electrician friend or sold for the scrap value of copper. I had a bunch of old industrial electrical stuff sent to me by former coworkers when they cleared out the sales office storage. I mean close to 300 pounds worth of "obsolete to them" stuff that were sales demos but perfectly usable. I kept the VFDs and some lights for personal use, sold some of it to my electrician friend, and gave the rest to a customer who could use it for cut throat jobs. Now I'm going through it again and purging more of it.

WRT to the tower trades materials, can you sell or give them away to a buddy in the industry? That way you can either recoup a little funds or at least have him owe you a favor?

With the totes, you really just have to take it one tote at a time. If there is stuff for a project you can build easily, build it! Take the time to stop and build the little project. Then it's done and you can move to the next tote. I purged 3 totes last weekend. Last night I condensed 3 totes into 2 in the basement.

For the bigger projects, I stop and ask myself if the stuff I was keeping is still relevant, or would I build it differently now? Could I invest a little more money now and get a much better finished project? That has allowed me to get rid of a lot of stuff. On top of that, I have been looking at all my hobbies and culling them down too. My interests have changed and I have a lot lees free time than I used to as well. So anything I was holding on to for projects that I'm just not really into now I have started selling off or giving/trading away.

You really are making good progress! Keep it up and don't forget the end goal. There will always be bumps, bruises, setbacks, and detours on the way.

I may take the tower stuff to a friendly competitor, there are a few things that I can sell, but most of the stuff is more of a hassle to store. I just happened to have space when I started storing the stuff 10 years ago. I have sold plenty of it for jobs, more than enough to recoup the cost of the conex itself. I am at the point where I just don't want to move it again, I have moved almost everything I own at least twice, sometimes many more times than that. I agree that there are going to be setbacks and detours, I just hope I can get back on track without going sight seeing for too long. I ran out of daylight, but I will be back early tomorrow. I think the scrap yard is still open on Saturday morning, so it would be nice to take a load over there, if it isn't open, I may go home early and hit it on the way.

I say that's photo shopped ... or you painted stuff with that new inviso paint ... or painted everything to match the inside of a container... or... those are false walls...

Floor, walls, and labeled bins Oh My.

The real question is:

What did you find that you knew you had but couldn't find and bought again?

Honestly I haven't found anything that I repurchased, but I have found things I forgot I owned, I think that is worse. Those bins were already labeled, so don't give me any credit for that. I will be relabeling some, a lot of them just say "MISC" and that is not descriptive enough, or I guess it could be too descriptive?

That is why I hate totes. Tossing junk in one and labelling it Misc is just kicking the can down the road. Time to rectify that. Good Luck!
