Need to make a door stop so the handle doesn’t smash into the cabinet, attached some cardboard for now.

Thanks guys, I think I will be a bit more energized when I walk into the shop tomorrow. I still need to clean the welding table off and decide if it goes outside or not.

The nice thing is that you have a couple of fork lifts so you can move it out and if you decide later that you want it in not a big deal.

So I would move it out and have one less flat surface to clutter, just make sure to have it in a spot where it won't get buried in junk or snow so that it can move back in if you need it.

Man look at the clean floor space. Good job. Here is what we use for door stops. Out of the way and adjustable. Should be able to get at a hardware store. 7089b6fa918aec64a58bd1f6b4565d78.jpg

Place the large table outside along the front wall of the shop and cover with a tarp. Later you could build a shelter over it and work on it on nice days. Will your welding leads reach to that type of location?

The places the leads would reach are not a good location for the table, it will need to be way out there, at least for the winter, plowing around it is not an option. Some day I would like to have a good overhang that I could setup things like that, also put my indoor Forklift outside for all but the winter months.

Looks like I was tired, I didn’t set my alarm and I woke up at 8:30. Now I am going to take a shower and then make some blueberry pancakes.

So yesterday turned into a non shop day.

I am going to get my Brother’s truck again today, hopefully I can get the rest of the scrap taken care of. I have to shuffle some vehicles to get to it, but it shouldn’t be too bad. Then I need to get back to the inside, that will make me feel better about things. I think I figured a way that makes sense to keep the big table inside, at least for the time being.

You know what I decided today?

I don't give a fack about getting the scrap out of the yard today, I really don't.

Instead I am going to work on the inside of the shop for a while and just see what happens. All this planning has me stressed out. I have a to do list that just keeps getting longer and longer, so I am going work on that, rather than go off on a tangent and make even more work for myself. Walking through the door this morning was great, I almost forgot how I left it. I want that feeling every day.

The pictures of the door area look great and glad that it inspires you as you arrived this morning.

Thanks, it was definitely inspiring. There was so much space. I am moving a few things around, will snap some more pics and update a bit later.

Well, apparently all the things that I though would be "easy" to do are turning out to be harder than most everything else. All I wanted to do was clean off the flat surfaces and I came to an almost standstill. I picked up this, then that, then moved something, but only to make more of a mess on another flat surface. I realize that the things on the flat surfaces don't have homes, not sure I even want some of them to have homes. I am going through things slowly, very slowly. I hope to make enough progress today, I have help tomorrow and wanted to get a lot done, but some of it hinges on what I can get done today.

I am trying to distract myself from the task at hand, seems like not doing anything is easier than doing something. These are the flat surfaces that I am up against:

I was scrolling though and thinking, "Eh, not so bad. Everyone has dealt with the bad habit of dropping stuff on each and every flat surface." but then the SUV roof had me laugh out loud. Haha, man, Past Strouty hasn't made it easy for Present Day Strouty.

Looking forward to what's next.

Yeah, I figured it was essentially a flat surface, so I better make a note of it.

I am torn, I want stuff gone, when I save it again it just seems to make more work, but now I am really into the "good" stuff and it is much harder to just toss it.

I have made a small bit of progress so far, but I really need to get some more stuff cleared off. Honestly, I need to get to the point where I stop calling it stuff and can say I put the hand tools way, or the grinder and supplies went back in the drawer, or all the pliers are back where they belong.

Strout, you should pick up some listas... Kidding.
Grab a bin and pile everything in from those flat surfaces that you know has a home and put it there.
And continue.
It's getting there.

Thanks guys, just feels like a never ending pile of unnamed stuff. Will keep plugging, I just need to remind myself that it is the end result that matters not the mess in between now and then.

I'd counter with the work you are doing now is what REALLY matters, perhaps even more than the result. It certainly matters more than you realize. It will be much more apparent the further you get.

Guess what, you're a magnet for "stuff" (we all are) and being able to instantly decide what stays or goes or what's valuable or not is a skill you're cultivating, currently. So, again, I think it's the process that's more important than the product.

It is going to take a while to sharpen that skill, I just hope it doesn't mean I have to go through this mess again, at least not for a while.

I have just been looking at things and trying to put them where they should be, still have the issue of not having a place for lots of things. This is what is slowing me down more than anything else. Then of course looking for a short level has been a bit discouraging too, but I need it to mount my disposable funnel dispenser. I have only had it for like 5 years or so, never mounted it, always moved the boxes around, sometimes I couldn't even find them.

Just think, once everything is organized and put away you can go back through it all and get rid of all the stuff you're not using. You'll be able to see what you don't use when you realize you haven't opened a drawer in 2 years.

Nice progress with everything. Reading this at work really makes me want to go home and clean up some my tiny little workshop. I'm already thinking of a few things I want to get rid of, but they were gifts. Hopefully the person isn't offended.

no no , don't quit, you are just getting started.
Stand back for a moment and just look at what you have gotten done.
Go back and look at one of your before pictures that you had on the other thread.
You have gone a long way...Rich

I think I am at a good stopping point, it is still raining, so I don't want to be going back and forth between the conex and shop with stuff. I thinned things out, it is a lot harder when you are trying to move it only once. There are a few things that will need to be sorted before putting them away, but overall I got a lot done. I did consolidate things, so they are grouped together. I just have to make some space for them and then I can put them away. Also need to get to the big drill press, I think the machinist vises need to go on the table.

I have a bunch too many wheel chocks, so I guess I need to figure where they should be going. I still feel like I have too much stuff, so I may go through things to thin the heard again. I really want to know generally where everything is, then the labels can direct me the rest of the way. I will say one thing, I want to order the storage wall uprights sooner rather than later, because the cabinets really do not work for me, all that space above them is going to be really hard not to clutter up.

Spent half the day moving things around, tomorrow should be even better, plans are coming together! I had originally thought that the fab table should go outside, after doing some measuring, it actually fits better than expected. I have enough room under it to store some longer scraps as well as both my rolling bins. Then off to the side I had enough room to put the small welder. The time consuming part was mounting the cabinets, mirror, and plastic bag holder, seems silly, but I actually use it. I have to put everything back into the cabinets and finish moving a few things into my office. I am excited again, things are looking good.

Nope, the DP is in the same old spot. It is actually easy to move, the pallet jack and a bit of ompf, but simple none the less. I keep taking pictures from different angles.

Tomorrow I think I will swap the pumps on the air compressor and see what I can find out. Hopefully one will work, if not then I will rear into one and start the rebuild process. By this weekend I would like to have a fully functional working space and a game plan for the next few weeks. Then I really need to concentrate on the outside, I don't want to get stuck with a mess and snow.

I need to shuffle some tools to make room for them. I sold my cart a few weeks ago and have not had the ambition to reintroduce the tools to the box.

Holy ****! I can see a vehicle in there!

Great job! You'll definitely enjoy the fab t able inside. You can always use those "scraps" later to build an outside fab table once things have settled down.
