Nice addition to the fleet - tossed in as part of a larger negotiation - Sears 5246-2 3" clamp-on Vise! PO stated it was in his toolbox and used by many co-workers over the years who needed something to hold small parts

Interesting variation of the normally vertical slide rods.

Hey All,
Not sure I have contributed to this massive thread of Vises yet, but I found one out in the wild this weekend with my old man that I thought for sure deserved a spot here. It is a Jacobson Machine Mfg Co. Vise with 4" (3 7/8") Jaws. It swivels with the lock mechanism for clamping as the same mechanism for stopping the swivel (in other words: it continues to swivel as long as the jaws are loose, as soon as you clamp material in the vise the pressure also locks the vise from rotating.) From the bit of research I did Jacobson was sold to become Rock Island, There Is a stamp of 48 on both the sliding jaw, and the fixed. I would assume 48 could be a year of manufacture? I haven't done extensive research, but from what I have read that would mean that Rock Island Was still producing vises with a Jacobson name? Anybody know that history and want to share I am interested in finding out how old this thing is. Its been beat a little and has a few battle scars, but for the most part is solid.

I picked up this Craftsman 508-51611(made by Columbian) vise recently. Tried oven cleaner as a stripper for the first time. I was surprised by how well it worked. The Wilton 101028 pictured has more work to be done before final restoration (has a couple cracks that need to be addressed, already picked up the Ni-rod to weld it for light duty going forward, but other things have been keeping me busy). Jaw inserts for the 508 are on order from Sears Parts Direct...but they are they've been delayed twice lol.

This weekend I found what to me was a unicorn vise and I never expected to find one in the wild.

Boat: you seem to acquire some quality vises and that one is one i haven't seen. WELL DONE!!

007: isn't that on a cart that an Ebay seller uses to take pictures of his cool old vises and anvils. knowing that seller i'd say that is a maybe a blacksmith's version of a bench vise, but maybe some company made it.

Z-E: yep some video and hard to believe it weighs 900 pounds without the stand, but it does have a lot of steel plate welded into it. thanks for posting the video!!

Thanks DRIVES, I saw one on line a couple of years ago and never expected to actually find one. I also picked this up.

IMG_2720_zpsb2ymrybw.jpg

I really like to big base so it is self standing.

I did leave behind a 3" Wilton bullet and a 4" Chas Parker. I didn't even ask if they were available as we are actively packing the house and shop to move and I have enough larger vises that will be a pain to move. There will be some low hanging fruit at that sale when it happens.

Yes that is the one and only same guy with his trademark cart (and he is in my neighborhood). He also does always want an arm and a leg (or more) but admittedly always has pretty neat stuff and probably worth the price.

He had (see my reply to ragtop below as to why I say "had") stated that it was a black smith bench vise.

Gman007, reminds me of a Heuer.

Boatman53, that thing is way cool, now I need one.

ragtop
I was going to offer to buy it for you (if you were interested :)) but man, it is already gone from CL (it was brand new listing, may be a couple hours old). Of course one can not tell for certainty but I am assuming someone already bought it!

There must be someone in my neighborhood that is collecting vises big time. On Friday morning I saw a Wilton 930s NOS on CL. It was sparkling and had the original color and absolutely in mint and flaw less condition. They were asking $300. I was debating if I want to get it and by the time I made up my mind around lunch time (I was going to offer $150-$200) it was gone! I guess you snooze you lose !

There are some big time vise hoarders out there that we will never know. They lurk on GJ but aren't members. I know of one myself that has probably 10 tons of cast and they are all in excellent condition. In his basement, in storage lockers etc. If even one out of 20 of us know of just one big collector. That's some serious collecting going on out there.

Those Eclipse 180 are not that rare here obviously but if complete always sell for £100 or more on ebay, I know the fly fishermen who tie flies buy them.
I would get one if I found one fairly cheap, they are very nice things.

BM, that appears to be a Pana-Vise (or Knock off) for holding printed circuit boards. Its missing the rubber jaw covers with grooves for the card edges. They made two types at least, one with long single groove jaws, and that one that could also be more general purpose.

Yes I have another Pana-Vise with short jaws that stilll have the rubber faces and there is discoloration where the rubber was on this one.

Had a good weekend. Found these three:

1.) Stephens Filer's Vise. 3" jaws. I've never seen one like this. Benchtop mount

2.) Old Parker #0. 5" jaws. Not on the vise list. Going to have to clean it a bit and get some pics and measurements.

3.) Reed 203 in really nice shape

I found this gorgeous machine vise as well. I really love these and this one is very unique. VERY tight tolerances.

I apologize for posting this here, but it seems appropriate:

I'm having a big tool sale at my house this Saturday 9-3, 567 Suffield St, Agawam, MA Some of what I'm selling; 150 vises including an 8" Ridgid, 6" Rock Island swivel, 6" Athol swivel and so many more including Atlas XY Tables, 1894 power hacksaw. I need to get 220 power in the shop and I need heat so stuff has to go.

I bought this over the weekend for 10 bucks. I have been doing some finer work lately inside and needed a small vise.

Can anyone help me to ID this vise? Forgot I had it from many years ago. No markings other than the "B", it's got 7" jaws. Thanks for your help - Jim

Really like that grinder, too bad I'm in texas. Never seen that one in person. Looks like a quality unit.
