With a few dozen Farmalls, I'm pretty partial to red.:bounce:

Here's hoping your previous fire consumed all the fuel which could give you additional protection from more fire this year.

Still looking good!

Don: are you out of HARM'S WAY with all these fires i'm hearing about now?

Yes Buddy. The fire is still burning but heading south west.
it was out but the Santa Ana winds started coming in from the desert and relit the fire about 5 miles west of me and the winds pushed it the other way

i love the rocket and i bet i drove by the Olds rocket sign a thousand times cause at one time i had an office less than a mile from it, but i don't recall it cause i wasn't looking at vintage cool stuff then or at least not as much.

I don't remember it either

how's the old TICKER??

Heart is working fine and I'm back up to speed with the projects.
Thanks for asking!!

hope you are having a great day!!

Just got home from a 5 day visit to my Colorado river house.
I'm all rested up and hitting it hard in the woodshop today

Hey Don, could I ask you a favor? Could you post up the details of the electrolysis bucket? I am going to build one this week.

No problem Brent. Be happy to

I took a 5 gallon bucket. Measured the circumference and divided it by 6 to determine where to drill holes for the steel rods.
I measured the depth of the bucket up to the holed to determine how long to cut my metal strap 3/16 x 11/2" I added 1" to the length and bent my strap out 1 " to give me more available surface to attract the rust.
I took a length of #6 electrical wire cut it into 6 pieces, soldered terminal ends to both ends of the wire and looped the bucket with my wires attaching them to the metal straps using 5/16 bolts. Added 5 gallons of water and 5 tablespoons of Arm & Hammer washing soda
I placed my vice grip in the water using the smaller grips to hold it in place and not allow the vice grip to touch my metal straps.
Next I took my battery charger and placed the positive clamp on one of the bolts holding the wire and straps and the negative clamp was hooked to the vice grip, I turned the charger on and set it to 15 amps and walked away
Came back a couple of hours later and took the second picture.
The next morning I pulled out the v.grip after turning off the charger.
Poured the nasty water on my lawn and wire brushed the grip.

It's just that easy. Good luck
I hope that helps

I found some time to work on an old project. My Radio Rancher wagon. I posted it when I picked it up on June 1 (PG 190 post 3789)

It is finally complete again, a little metal work and fresh paint no new parts

tomorrow the wagon goes to my pin striper to get the lettering replaced

Looks good Don. Amazing what a little elbow grease will do. Too bad nothing made today will be able to be restored like this.

I had one of those when I was a kid. I added some pipe on the back to simulate it having dual exhaust. And the rear axle had a square tab with a hole in it welded on to pull the little trailer my grandpa made me to pull behind my tricycle. I still have the little trailer it is sitting my flowerbed. I will have to take a pic for you.

The wagon cleaned up real nice Don. Looking forward to seeing it with all the lettering restored. Maybe it needs a little rocket graphic on the side!!

Don: that recharge over at the river after the near miss from the fire really got your restoration juices going or maybe they always are. you turn out some stuff worthy of it's own TV show so thanks for sharing.

LOVE THE MONEY SHOT TOO!!

it's sad to hear and see what all that fire is doing in Napa and prayers go out to all of those losing their homes and loved ones.

take care and what's next?

Thanks for the visits guys. I do enjoy reading your thoughts.
The wagon went to the Striper today and I picked up 3 other pieces that I'll post later.

I did pick up a couple new old signs and a doctors bag to go with the Doctors buggy I got for my birthday

When I saw the wagon with the rocket, the wagon was begging for a red stripe.

Hi David

No more fire danger I hope. Did you remind Chip that he needs to stop by??
Ann said hi and she will be ready for your visit in a couple of weeks.
Looking forward to it. Hope you are enjoying your retirement.

Great oil signs:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: the guy on the oil sign looks like a crook, or from the Green Hornet show?

Herb

Yes those are valuable signs they are both curved a bit making them even more valuable. Now to find just the right spot for them.
Thanks for stopping in.

Yep AZ
Red tips are in the plan so far. I just left the wings alone while I worked on other projects. The paint is dry enough now to put the tape on without marking it. (next week)

Yeh, I thought that was pretty good too.

Oh no, my comment "got the rockets wings painted today" is one of those classic statements that very very few people would ever make, especially to make that statement as a matter of course, not bragging.

What did you do today? "Oh, I got my rockets wings painted, had lunch, did some other stuff, why?"

People just never ever post about getting their rockets wings painted. You would be the man:rocker::rocker:

No I didn't work on the rocket today!!

It was clean up day in the shop. I had my guy running around the shop with a ladder wiping out the cob webs and dusting the walls while I put tools away and wiped down the tool boxes. The place has been neglected for a few weeks.

With the right side cleaned up it made the left side look sad so I went after it next. The work tables are very convenient for working on smaller projects.
Each table has at least one smaller project on it. Some have more than just one

Starting at the back and working around to the left

That took care of the left side so my tool area is all clean and inviting to work on several smaller projects.

Thanks for looking in

You probably have, but they are pretty nondescript. Used for siding and roofing in the US from the teens through the EPA ban in 1989.

Mine are 3-16-1/4 thick, and being a cement product, they crack pretty easy if impacted, but have decent insulating and good fire resistance, also the pigment seems to be baked in permanently.

My dad put asbestos shingles on our house back in the late 1950s. They're still there today, but some subsequent owner painted them.

I recall replacing a few of them using some spares he had kept on hand. Comparing the ones that had been out in the weather with the ones that had been sitting in a dark corner of the garage, you could see that the colors had faded a little over time but all in all they held up pretty well.

I painted the ones on our house when we moved in in 85. It was pink, I made it yellow and it has not needed paint again. I don't have green shingles but I have several white shingles available, however they have the wavy bottoms. I can't tell from the picture if yours are wavy or straight.

Don: I can't understand how you get anything done, cleaning up stuff that's already clean.:willy_nil

While working cleaning the shop yesterday, my neighbor from the barn dropped by with a care package for the party garage

IMG_1408 by don long, on Flickr

Yep miniature oil cans.

IMG_1413 by don long, on Flickr

These will make a nice display in a small cabinet somewhere. While thumbing through the box we came across a few other dreasures
Check out the funnel and other stuff

IMG_1415 by don long, on Flickr

I have several of these tall spout Texaco oil cans but never saw the box for them before

IMG_1422 by don long, on Flickr

An old can of wire solder along with the brass ships clock & barometer for the game room, and I'm never too far away from a Diet coke (Carls Jr) Pat also dropped the wood mallet on me.

IMG_1398 by don long, on Flickr

I didn't know what this last box was until I read the fine print

IMG_1404 by don long, on Flickr

They will all find a home in the party garage somewhere??

Man it is like Xmas every time I come in here Don. I love your Auto bodywork station. That is something for me to aspire to. I think I have maybe a 10th of what you have there. I see you have some Rage, the metal glaze you talked about and some guide coat. I also like the overhead towel dispenser you have above the station. Do you happen to know where you got it?

Also what do you have the air tools mounted in.

The care package your neighbor brought over is very cool.

DON: you know when Bearsfan was mentioning his OCD was on alert i missed the wrench and thought he was talking about the mat being a bit big for the bench. it's amazing you have those cabinets alone, but to also have all the original tools that goes in them is very cool.

nice box of treats from your neighbor and i hadn't seen some of those before.

I won't get into the bad things about drinking a lot of DIET SODA, but just know that i'm going to teach you to make great ice tea some day in the near future and see if you can substitute that with your COKES.

take care and always fun checking in to see what you are up to.
