I've seen a lot of 52 series superratchets, and have never seen one like this. Could be legit, but if so, you could see why very few of them might have been sold, making them rare.

I can only say that based on the markings, it was probably made sometime from about 1978-82 after the company changed it's name from JH Williams & Co. to JH Williams Industrial. They changed the font and started dropping the old markings. This one was made after they dropped the '& Co." but before they dropped 'Superratchet'. The 52s still remained the same inside though.

The pathetic lack of surviving catalogs available from this era makes positive ID very difficult.

Looks like a fair price with how roached the chrome is.

I normally look up the information I need on Alloy Artifacts,
but they are lacking a lot, too. I'd like to pick it up but as you stated the finish is in rough shape. Thanks for the input!

The lever is 100% authentic. Probably original to the ratchet but can't say for certain.

I have an S-52 with that lever, and also on the insulated handle version.

Yours has the same black oxide ring nut too. Is yours also missing the "& Co." mark?

They show up in my catalogs. Model S-52LC for insulated (cementex) version and S-52L for non insulated version. Pretty sure they are all stamped S-52 on the body though since attaching the thumb piece was probably a separate function done at another station. I also have the S-52L version.
