Hello everyone;

I am looking for an air impact and have been toying with the idea of the Nitrocat 1200 because it offers more power than my M18 2763 that sometimes stumbles on the Sprinters we do. Is this a good choice? Is there anything else I should be considering? Thanks!

Sell your 2763 and buy the 2767! I sold mine on Facebook and threw in an extra charger I had laying around and a compact battery and I got $200 for it. They have a super high resale value. I had like 30 people blow me up asking to buy it, so I probably could've gotten even more. I kept a boot on mine so it still looked like new but still. I only paid like $25 out of pocket for the 2767, and the power increase is very noticeable. I'd be willing to bet it could tackle the one that's giving you trouble. It's also a little shorter in length, which is a welcome improvement.

Agree here.

And if the 2767 can't tackle it, the Nitrocat can't either.

I think cordless impacts do well if you are using plain impact socket on short bolt. Lug nuts etc. Or if you are showing off on youtube with your torque tester.

But if you add some flex into the equation like say 3" long impact hex bit socket or few inches of extension they fare much worse than their air counterparts. Possibly due to different hammer mechanism. (less momentum per blow).

For example, my cheap Ryobi (rated 150lb.ft) can remove lug nuts torqued to 100 lb/ft even bit more. But use it on long bolts with 3" long 12mm bit sockets and you can easily out-power it with one hand on short 3/8 drive ratchet. Happened yesterday.

I use it also to take apart ZF transmissions (ZF16S series) one such thing has dozens of 10mm bolts to remove before it spills out the internals. Without exception the Ryobi removes most of them, but it always fails to remove the longest of them. The reason is the long bolts flex enough to eat the tiny blows from it's hammer. It only takes 60 NM to remove them most of the time. I have measured it!
Needless to say any 3/8 air impact removes them with ease.

I don't have any experience with the latest and greatest 1/2" drive cordless units, but this summer my Aircat 1250K destroyed a brand new 3/4" drive 18v Milwaukee Fuel in unexpected torque battle. Possibly for the reason mentioned above, or perhaps it was a dud, or perhaps they are just over hyped. I don't know.

My point is; cordless vs air is a bit complicated when it comes to max torque in real world situations. And honestly I am extremely sceptical any cordless impact on the marked can replace the air heavy hitters in great many situations.

Thanks for the suggestion of trading up to the newer M18 but I am looking for an air impact to work alongside my cordless. There are some situation that an air tool just seems to work better for me and the last air impact I got my hands on is a miserable 300 ft/lb affair from the Stone Age.

The Snap On looks pretty nice but doesn't sit right in my hand. Is it my imagination or is the IR 2235 quite a bit louder? I tried the new Matco and it was quite nice - blew off a crank bolt that none of the other shop guns could.

Matco is rebranded Florida tool I think?

IMO 2235 is quieter than the 2135. You can always get a qt. I would rather stick with Ir or snapon. I have one aircat and don’t care for it

Sounds very reasonable, great to have both cordless and air.

I have had my Aircat1250K for two years and for someone needing powerful quiet and smooth gun I can recommend it without hesitation. The only IR gun that might compare is the 2235. I have never tried one so I don't know, but I have tried great many earlier IR's and they are not close to this gun in terms of power.

Still: don't expect 1300 real world lb/ft out of it. Thats just BS rating the industry is pushing.

I'm not expecting 1300 lb/ft out of the tool, but the ability to blow the crank bolt off a Honda will be awesome! Is the Aircat 1150 any good? It looks quite similar in price and specs to the Nitrocat 1200 but is faster? Thanks again.

I like the 1200K a lot, but if you're looking for brute strength, then the Matco MT2769 is stronger. I've had them side by side, the MT2769 is the strongest 1/2" I've ever had my hands on. I didn't care for the feel of it and the housing and buttons feel cheap to me.
