3ph snowblower to skid steer

Well figured I’d post on my next pre snow project lol
I have an 84” wide 3ph snowblower and I went it to be run with my John Deere 333d skid Steer.

So skid steer hydraulic specs are 3450 psi at 25gpm.

I’m going it’s a baseline of 540 is what the pto turned the blower.

So I calculated needing roughly an 8.whatever cubic inch georolor motor. Not sure if I just want to spin the gear box and leave the Chain nd everything which I think I should then install some sort of overrun clutch, or remove and try mount 2diffferent motors. Would also like a block to have my other electric aux buttons control Shute angle and direction. Looking for any hydraulic advice or any input. Got an idea of how I wanna do it but always open to ideas.

Pulled gear box off to check it out and replace seals.

The front auger turns about 1 for every 3 motor rpm. So at 540 from the motor about 180 on the auger.

Surplus Center can set you up with the correct sized motor - if they have it - for the existing 540 PTO shaft. Greatly simplifies the construction.

I have looked into doing this before. You will actually need a hydraulic motor and a gear box. You may be able to find a gear motor (both built together) with the right specs. Motors are quite expensive as are the gear boxes. This is another option....quite expensive as well....but you may find one cheaper.

I’ve looked on their site some. I don’t want to use a pto output and shaft as I want to keeep everything shorter.

I think I will probably leave the gearbox on the blower and size a motor to spin it. I’m looking at about $500 usd for a motor.

I would use the original gear box so you only have to use one motor and worry about one speed (that you know to be 540). Better than an over run clutch would be the hydraulic equivalent. Basically when there is pressure on the return line it opens a valve and allows the oil to recirculate through the motor. Basically you turn of the flow to the motor but the motor is able to coast down to a stop.

I thought about that as well. But how would you do that? Would the return line also not hav pressure all the time? Granted not as high as the pressure side...

What would be the reason it would be better? Cheaper?

Sorry for the poor quality drawing it is hard to draw on a phone with a finger lol.

Blue is pressure, yellow is return. When you take away the pressure on blue the spring pushes the valve down and allows flow from the return side back through the motor.

While drawing my diagram I realized that my first explanation earlier was not good. Hopefully this helps.

So the black box is the valve? What is the pressure line going to it?

Can this be achieved in a block with a pressure valve? Skid steer feeds block which goes out to motor and also has an out for cyl to control Shute rotation that’s valved by a 12v solenoid? Obviously the returns for everything would run back to the block also the case drain on the motor.

Yes the black box is the valve. It is a pressure operated spring return valve the pressure line going to it is what moves it to prevent bypass flow when you are operating the blower. ..... Wait a minute this could be much simpler...I just realized that all you really need is a check valve. It would only allow flow in one direction... From the return side back around the loop.

If you are a equipment design company you can have a block made with literally anything built into it. The problem is finding one with the functions that you want.

Here’s a block off an actual skid steer snowblower.
