flea market in DE will put a used american ratchet at about $50, and BB at about $25. I say that without seeing many 3/4 stuff at the market.
The only 3/4 stuff I see is full sets of Chinese ratchets and sockets in a metal case for usually around $100.

You didn't say how much they were asking.
I recently sold a vintage John Deere marked 3/4 rat and breaker in very good condition (about an 8 out of 10) for about $150 together. The pebble should be worth a lot more (except to a John Deere collector, of course).
What you're looking at is rare, especially if they're in great shape and not all roached out. They were only made for a few years, and in that size probably not in much quantity. It can be a challenge just to find the relatively common combo wrenches out in the wild. If you're a collector, sometimes you have to pay collector prices. The seller apparently knows what he has, or at least knows what a good set like this is worth. If you're only in the market if you can ****** it for far less than what it's worth, then pass on it. I'm sure another collector will ****** it up. Maybe you'll come upon another set as nice for cheap elsewhere. Maybe.

If it's a pebble, it should have PLOMB marked on it. The changeover to the Proto name came later.
They have a recessed handle. The flat field inside the recess where the markings are forged has a distinct pimply pattern, which earned it the nickname 'pebble' variety. Made by Plomb about 1945-48 according to the AA site.

I'm not a collector who has to have everything g perfect, but I enjoy bringing out rare or unusual tools and watching people's faces when they ask why I don't just get a tool truck set. With that said, I'm not opposed to paying what something is worth, I just prefer not to get hosed.

If you're not going to flip it then it really doesn't matter what you pay for it if you pay willingly, right? It's worth what you are willingly to pay for it.

Sold one on here for about $80 for the two. Plomb ratchet, freewheeled in one direction, and breaker. Also had some sockets (so I am estimating price of just those two).
