I went out tonite after dinner and took a couple shots of the Parlor wall.
I will be finishing the electrical wiring this weekend and then I'll build the light boxes for the glass blocks.

I.m leaning toward bringing the red wood on around for the outside of the parlor.
What's your vote???

I had to build the wall over to the parking garage wall along the side of the elevator to stabilize the parlor wall (more wall space for signs)

Here is my excel blueprint for the ice cream parlor.

Don: are the colors on your plan what you are thinking about? i'd probably prefer to see the walls white, lettering red and the above window trim maybe red or a or green or ??

is the trim supposed to be burgundy cause i like the red theme?

rocket and wagon are top notch as per usual. is your bride still getting fresh food from the garden? i heard it was 109 in San Diego yesterday from a member that lives there so must have been warm in your area too?

fires all out or still burning up in Napa and elsewhere cause i haven't heard much?

keep on movin is my moto and you do well at that sir.

White with red trim. Candy stripe awnings optional.
I vote for a better name the parlor. Scoops Ice Cream or something similar. Here's a couple nice ones. I'm partial to the second 152e336eac289ba7e60a58a69743c24a.jpg052796d90302482b1212b9444a9cc38b.jpg

Here is a shot of the joining wall next to the elevator.
It is t&g red wood that's what i'm thinking of wrapping the parlor with.
The Red & White color will be awnings over the windows

Andy
I've thought about that but wonder if it might be too much white!!

Yes Drives
The garden is still producing. Winter crop will be carrots, broccoli, lettuce and raddishs. The green house is getting bedding plants started next month.
And yes it was 108 on tuesday while I was framing the walls.

Shorty
We are looking for the name for the parlor. Thanks for the suggestions.

Whatme
I haven't heard of the place. Where is it.

Hi Don, I'm going for the redwood with the red and white accents on the sign and awning. My bride wants to come back by to see it when you're done. She was a "Soda Jerk" as they were called in the 60's

I misread your original post, I think redwood got autocorrected to red wood and I thought you were matching inside. Nothing wrong with redwood, but I sure like shops looking like individual businesses.

How about:
"Don's Ice Cream"
"Come in and take a Long break"

Really cool progress!!! Of course I like it because it is OSB, I just leave my garages and sheds in plain OSB, no paint LOL!!! My wife says I have no design taste... She would like your setup though!!!

Hi Al.
Thanks for your opinion.
Soda jerks, I remember that. Tell your wife she is welcome to drop in anytime.

That's pretty good Andy

Well you are right again. You made me go back out and look at the parlor again and I've decided to carry the white wains coat to the outer wall and trim it with the same red painted trim.

Really cool progress!!! Of course I like it because it is OSB, I just leave my garages and sheds in plain OSB, no paint LOL!!! My wife says I have no design taste... She would like your setup though!!!

Your OSB vote is out, but thanks for the compliment

sorry Don but I meant to say Cacklefest.com

Now I know all about the CAcklefests.
My good buddy works each show as the music DJ out of his 1951 box truck.
Maybe you have ran into him (high energy sound)

Don: i mentioned a couple days ago that i thought White for the walls and maybe red for the trim and maybe another basic color for above the windows so you have my vote if you want to paint it white.

how about naming the ice cream parlor after your beautiful BRIDE or does she have any other name she might like it to be?

good to see you are busy doing all the cool stuff you do and keep up the good work.

cheers

Played out in the big garage a little this afternoon
Experimented with some LED lights behind the glass block walls. Figured out what I needed and got them ordered

Here's a sample of what I'm thinking. I can make them several different colors

24152812738_5cdc09b1e5_c.jpgIMG_1622 by don long, on Flickr

And I can take the rocket off my to do list. It's hanging in the garage

I wanted to hang it in the ice cream parlor BUT I built the door too low to fit the man lift and the rocket inside.

The rocket turned out amazing! And the parlor is really coming along, I like the LED lighting behind the glass blocks  The lens on the tail of the rocket looks like a old electrical insulator?

Amen to all the prior comments. The rocket turned out just great and what a totally unique item to show off. The paint theme you chose really stands out and makes the rocket look like it's ready to blast off to glory somewhere.

Great job on the rocket Don! Looks great!

That rocket turned out killer!!!

Thanks guys for stopping in to see whats going on.
I really appreciate all the comments and conversation it means a lot to me

The rocket was a fun (different) project and will be a great conversation piece out in the garage.
I don't remember where the red glass tail piece came from but it fit perfectly in the tail so I left it there.

Now it's on to the next project. I think I will try to get the windmill back up on the shelf with new paint and neon on it. I need to get the parlor finished before our anual church christmas party to.

hope you had a great weekend.

Red, White and Blue and with the Stars and Stripes it looks so patriotic. It could only be Don's Patriot Rocket.

Good one simon
I do like the way it turned out. Thanks for stoppin in

Thats sharp. Sharp enough to deserve more lighting. :shocking: Then more pictures.:Violent:

dreamingmuscle
I have a plan for more lighting but not much juice left in the building to run the light. I'm sure you will see the rocket again in the back ground of other shots around the building.

No name yet but it isn't finished yet either.
I had every intention to fly the rocket in the parlor but 2 things held it back. 1. the room is a little tight for the rocket and the big Coke sign together.
2. I didn't consider the height I needed to get the manlift with the rocket on it inside the room (oops) I had a great weekend getting the rocket up and cleaning my shop a bit

Don,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Q:What does one do when you get run out of garage space?

A: expansion!!!!!

Thanks for your contribution to my thread bowtiguy
It's hard to believe that I could possibly be running out of room, but I do have plenty of space

I believe you're right but it will be outdoor with a western town.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes Shorty
And it is coming just not at a rapid pace. I have enough containers now to get the town started and I have several piles of old wood. What I don't have yet is time (too many loose ends and started projects to get involved with the size of that project.

The rocket is just like so many other things in your garage. A casual visitor will not see 80% of what is in there, and the longer they linger the more intrigued they become at the marvelous treasures placed all over the venue.

I can see someone missing the rocket the first few visits then exclaiming "Neat! How long has that been here?"

Great job!!:thumbup::thumbup:

It's surprising how true that statement is. The planet hollywood sign is 8' in diameter and is directly in line with the front door and no one sees it the first time through that door
