Bluepoint metric wrench set for DIYer

Guys - I'm looking for a decent set of metric wrenches for working on my F150, Deere lawn mower, and other projects around the house. I love the wright grips that I have but I found a 4 piece set of snap on and love the extra length.

Thinking about picking up a 10 mm -19 mm set for around $120 on ebay - fair deal?

Stick with the Snap-on wrenches. I have found no other wrench that I can maneuver in my hand as well as a Snap-on. Those people must have put an extraordinary amount of thought into it while they were designing the wrench because I can't think of anything that needs improvement.

Are the "longer" Snap On wrenches you found earlier the same pattern as the ones on Ebay?

They make a standard pattern and a long pattern. The standard pattern is already longer than most other brands and the long pattern is comparable to other brands that are called extra long.

there is a usa set of blue points on ebay right now 9-19mm, for 80 bucks That is the set u want, identical to snap-on except not polished

The Blue Points are a little shorter. For example, the Blue Point 1/2'' combination wrench is 7-49/64'' long, but the Snap-on 1/2'' combination wrench is a full 8 inches. Blue Points are made in China now.

Look at the Gearwrench long pattern or Tekton long pattern wrenches also. They've both gotten good reviews on here.

I have a set of the Snap On Flank Drive + metric wrenches. I really like the set and appreciate the FD+ feature. I felt the need to augment them with some longer ones though for when I needed extra leverage so I bought the DBE set by KTC. I really like those too but then wanted something that ratcheted. I was between the Tekton set and the Gearwrench set (I'm talking extra long DBE) and winded up with the Tekton due to them having flex heads.

I'm still curious about the Gearwrenches though since they have the one closed end, non ratcheting. Sometimes the flex head feature isn't desirable. And of course, I'd like to own a set of stubbies.

At work I got a hold of some Wright DBE wrenches in Satin finish and I Really like how wide (thick) the beam is, they felt great in hand.

I'll take a photo of what my snap ons are. They are much longer than the wrightgrip. I was going to pickup a set of wrightgrip 952 but got looking at blue points and really like the price point compared to the snap ons and the length.

Nothing wrong with the Blue points, Taiwan made IIRC. But I'd check out the Williams (the imported ones are the same as the B-P) or Gearwrench, unless you can get a nice deal on the Blue points.

Yep, and if I needed a set of metric wrenches, I'd be all over that...you're not going to find a better deal, that's for sure.

Blue Point had some USA combo sets in the 90's that were identical in look and feel to SO. The finish is satin, but all else appears to be the same as the non FD or FD+.

I have a few sets for the road and house, I like them very much. They are a little tougher to find sometimes.

It I damage one, I'm sure the replacement will be a Taiwan version though :(

With the luck I have had with most import wrenches the BP wouldn't scare me. Save some cash to widen the set or add another item.

I don't care for the anti-slip designs that mark up the fasteners. For working on cars, that may be fine, but most of my work is motorcycles and often I don't want fasteners getting marked up from my wrench.

I have found the anti-slip design on Proto wrenches is pretty easy on fasteners, you have to bear WAY down on a fastener before it begins to leave a mark. And it's a very effective design...I'm really happy with my Proto's.

That said, if I were working on cars primarily, my focus would be toward the WrightGrips; with Proto ratcheting to back them up.

For what I do, my SK long pattern wrenches have been fantastic. I really haven't missed the lack of an ASD on the SK's at all. When things get tough, I use the box end and I can't recall my SK's box end ever rounding off a fastener.

Thanks for all the thoughts guys! Others have bought the bluepoints.

I'm going to take a look at more williams, case IH, and Cat wrenches.

FWIW I've had a set of Case IH wrenches I've use daily for 8 years and they've held up great.

Might be best for a diy to look at gearwrench standard combo non ratcheting wrenches

And snap on standard wrenches are a little longer than others sk Wright hazet they are more like others long pattern wrenches

I personally prefer the hazet 600n the box end is a bit tighter and fit it better
