Looking for long 3/8" round head fine tooth ratchet

I'm going to pull the plug on either a Wright 3425 or a Williams B-53A. I have never used either one of these ratchets. I guess what I'm wondering is how close to is the Williams mechanism to the Facom round head used in the SBD ratchets? I have a Mac fine tooth round flex head and have fell in love with the size of the head and feel of the mechanism. Unfortunately Proto only has a standard length round head and Mac's version is a comfort grip:(. And well I'm just intrigued by all the love for Wright ratchets.

I don't have any of the newer Williams ratchets but I have three dual pawl knurled handle Wrights - regular and long handle 1/2 (both bought used) and a 3/8 flex handle.

The Wrights are very good ratchets. The chrome on the 3/8 was excellent when it arrived and the ratcheting action is very good. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

The head on the Williams is slightly bigger than on the Proto round head, but not a lot. Pretty close to the Wright as you can see in the pic. The Williams does have o-rings to help seal the mechanism and the selector is a bit easier to grab than the Proto round head. Otherwise, the Williams acts pretty much like the Proto outside of maybe having a little more backdrag and being a tiny bit heavier. I only have the standard length ones and really have only used the Wright (my go-to 3/8 ratchet is an FL80) which I have been happy with. Sorry I cannot be of more help, but I hope the pic helps.

It does have 41 teeth but it has two pawls that are off set so that it gives the same action as an 82 tooth ratchet.

SK just released a drop-in upgrade for their roundheads, as well as a new round head ratchet. The long handles haven't been released yet. But there seems to be a QC issue with the first batch of drop-ins. I'd wait until they get it sorted out before upgrading.

Initial reports on the ones that work seem to suggest that this will be a big improvement for the 3/8dr. The 1/4dr doesn't seem to offer as big a difference. The 1/2dr hasn't been released yet.

Look into the new DT ratchets by SK. Once the bugs are worked out, this may be what you're looking for.

I have seen the thread on the drop in kits. Just don't wan't to spend the money for a ratchet and have to toss the guts and put in a new kit to get what I want. And like I said before who knows when they will release the dual pawl version of the long handle ratchet?

The kit should work for any handle length, unless I'm mistaken. They all seem to be pretty close.

No need to grab the sector on the Facom heads a flick of the thumb is all it takes. What's the Part # on the Proto w/facom head ratchet?

You got me to try the thumb trick. Works fairly well. Thanks for the tip.

The standard length 3/8 ratchet is J5252F. Proto also makes a longer flex head version, J5257F.
