Thoughts on these listas. Dumb??

I just started this and I think it looks dumb, I wanted them on a riser so I could stand or sit on a stool, otherwise they are roughly 33" tall. I have enough boxes to mimic this on both sides, and leave a 3-4' space in the center for a stool and fridge. I'd like some thoughts. Then I have 2 taller ones I was going to put on the opposite side of the shop. Or maybe I'll split them and do 3 on one side and 3 on the other with a tall one at each end of the bench. I also have this big bench with a sliding door and this cart came with the deal along with this bullet vise.

They make bases and legs that will get you that high without the wood.

Why not recess the toe kick back a bit and let the front float....all your bearing weight is going to be on the sides anyway.

My OCD isn't really kicking in yet. Idk, they just look out of place.

I want to cover the wood with polished aluminum diamond plate since it's a truck garage. Kind of give it the truck look and **** won't get slid under them.

Back story....called a lady on Craigslist that had a bunch listed. I went to look at this only to find out her husband had bought them from a closing factory. They had waaaay more then was listed and I couldn't decide, so I bought all of them along with the cart, bullet vise, and a bench top milling machine. I gave 4500 for everything. I think I did ok. But didn't care, I need a bolt bin, and one of these is perfect for that. I need storage for some bigger tools and specialty tools and these will work. I shouldn't need any more storage in my shop which will leave my walls clear and that's what I want. The big tall cabinet on the trailer is a double door heavy *** steel cabinet with 128 plastic storage bins inside. I was going to sell a couple, but I don't think I want to now.

The small one on the end has a toe kick built in, the 2 bigger ones are hanging off the wood about 2 inches. I set them up so the front drawer area is flush and then I'll deal with the base.

The current setup. I'd like to either put a bowling alley top or just make a big top for them so it's solid one piece. I have 2 more wilton vise's I need to mount as well as this bullet vise. So I need it fully functional.

I don't want clutter so I need it to look right. Maybe I'm flipping out lol

Until you know what you are doing, don't sell any, you will regret it. Once you have a better idea, then you may decide to sell some, but it will only be so you can buy more of the ones you really want.

Lista also makes a product called Storage Wall, it is like pallet racking that accepts the drawers from those cabinets. I am in the process of building my stockroom and will be using all storage wall components and essentially getting rid of the cabinets.

Another idea.....can you cheat the sheet metal base on the outer ones forward to match flush the rest? I think that would fix the look for me. The wood riser doesn't offend my sensibilities, just needs a coat of paint.

That will be an amazing amount of storage. They are all blue, at least those six cabs. It will only look better with the mirror image bench and matching tops.

They are the same height so the base will be the same regardless. So that takes that part of of the equation on the set up or arrangement.

While I do agree, it doesn't look right but not dumb. I'd suggest arranging the boxes so the same style is side by side, not "one of these, one of those and let's add this at the end" type of layout. You don't have to but your stool directly in the middle, it can be offset.

While I know these are heavy and you don't want to me constantly moving them to find the right layout, you can figure it out. I'd suggest taking a picture of each box individually (from the same distance to make them "the same size") and printing off a copy of each one, trimming the picture as you cut it out. Simply start moving them around till you have the layout you want.

If it were me, I'd set it u0 the way I think I want it, but not make it permanent. That way once I actually use them for awhile and realize i want a different setup, i can easily change it and make it "permanent"

Make a false sheet metal front for the one and then cover the wood base and no one will notice. Or even remove the base and make use of the upper space, I put a hose reel in mine and I'm not the only guy on this board who has done something along these lines.

I'd build a shelf, worktop on top of the cabinets. Still get the height plus a place to put tools or items you are using and a more usable work surface.

Ok, for the record I hate this Tapatalk app. It's super difficult to use and I get no notifications.

Ok, so the idea was to have 2 mirrored benches, each one the same height, same length. They are each 75" long and then space them apart far enough to have a 14-15' top on the top of them both. And then slide my fridge underneath with my stool. The only issue....I have 5 blue boxes and 1 gray box that will finish this off. But if I buy a roll of vinyl I can cover everything and it will match my shop colors.

I do like the idea of the hose reel. I was trying to think of how I wanted to do my air lines on it. So I'm going to consider that.

And yes lol. I needed a bolt bin and didn't care lol. So I bought them all.

Most shops you see have a cabinet here and a cabinet there and it takes a ton of floor and wall space. These are way more then I can ever use and I'm excited about that.

I have that same cabinet that has the stand. I took it off and mounted it flush with the front, had to drill some holes and bend a few locking tabs to do this. Now it mounts up flush like the other cabinets. I did find that the top front edge of the stand did not get painted, so you can see this. I made a 2x4 frame for the cabinets to sit on. I needed it to be able to scripe it to the floor so the cabinets would all be level.

All my benches are 37" high, so I made long stock (and pipe clamp) storage under this pair of cabinets. If you're going to put a surface up on top, take that into account. In my case, a 2x4 down below and the butcher block up top brought things to just the right height.

You can see how I had the base go in, slightly under the front face of the cabinets -- instead of flush or stepping out. The idea was that my toes would hit it less when I was standing there.

I would make a hidden frame underneath that sits on 4 or 6 casters. I dislike cabinet faces being uneven and also when I can't put the tips of my boots under the cabinets (when sitting).

That's a good idea jack. I didn't leave any voids for long stock. I think I will consider that on the other side. I've only made one riser so far so it's easily workable. Also, yes I'm taking into account for a top. I like the height of my toolbox stainless top. It's roughly 43" off the ground. And if things get to bad. I also have a 4'x10' steel chassis bench I'm gonna put on casters. It's only about 34" tall right now. But I may make the casters removable so it can be fixed and lower to the ground.

It took me a minute to figure out what stand you meant. I will look tomorrow. I didn't think that stand came off. If it does then I will remove it and then I will have a spot for a hose reel or whatever else I need these. I'd like to implement a writing area for my note pad and stuff. Maybe I can work something up there.

Thanks. In the background of that shot, you can see the other bench I made. My apologies if you've already read about it on this site, but the same thing could be an option for that pair of same-width cabinets you have. Mine was made out of a 9-drawer Equipto that I cut in half. But that meant one 5-drawer side and one 4-drawer side. So I added a blank panel where my vice handle hangs, and snugged a (sideways) hose reel behind it.

I flipped the box over and took the screws out that hold the riser on. Come to find out if I spin it around in snaps right in the same places and lines up almost perfectly. Much better now.

Well at the current they don't match and I'm pretty sure 2 are Kennedy and 1 is a Stanley vidmar. But here they are. Now to make the top. I'm going to put my fridge and a hose reel in the middle and I should have just enough space for a stool.

Ya disregard that. 2 are Stanley. The rest are lista.

The grey one locked on me, thank goodness for the holes in the bottom. Once I got one drawer open the rest was easy. The nut on the lock mechanism had fell off. It's tight now and can't lock without a key.
