What did you do "IN" your garage today?

We got our first official coating of the white sh*t on Friday, prompting Dad and I to get our butts in gear to get the garage in a box put up over Grandma's car (today). After that, Dad and I came home to investigate the sound coming from his truck (outside in the cold, because who actually has space to fit a vehicle in their garage? lol). Figuring a wheel bearing or stuck caliper was to blame, pulled the brake assembly off, spun the rotor back and forth and the noise was eliminated. Caliper seemed to operate correctly so for now rotors and pads are on the shopping list for tomorrow, then we'll see if the noise continues or not.

I finished up the day by rolling the cart back in with the tools still on it, putting virtually nothing away where it belongs. That's a job for tomorrow.

Got sucked into more of the bathroom repainting as the bead board I cut needed to go in. looks good!

I bought a new to me winter driver, a 2004 Ford Expedition which still had the boring stock Ford radio. So I replaced that with an extra aftermarket radio I had available and installed that. Just had to buy the appropriate wiring connector but now I can still play CD's if desired and also plug in my iPod which I use a lot on trips and travel to and from work.

After doing plenty of DD/tow rig maintenance got to start back on fixing the toy...

Put the new case in, took plenty of trial fits and trimming but its in. Now on to the next step so it can be ready to go again...

Checked a 2012 Mazda 3 Skyactiv with the dash lit up like a Christmas tree.
7 codes from ecm bcm to pcm. She said the car lost power and the rpm was on 4. It had a funny smell so I checked the fluids after a full scan. They have a trans cooler on the side of it and it decided to exchange coolant and trans fluid making both look like chocolate milk. It's 200 miles and 7 months out of warranty but I would think they should take care of this. Not a lack of maintenance issue, manual states 120k or 10 years for coolant and lifetime trans fluid. Both of which I tend to disagree with.

Ok yes this is technically partially a "what did you do TO your garage" post, but IN the shop today I put away some hardware and cleared away some junk, reorganized the shelf below my bench and tossed up a quick and dirty shelf out of some scrap I had left over from another project. Going to sweep the floor and attempt to tackle the "cubbies" and toss a few things out.

Working on my 2005 Explorer Sport Trac getting it back on the road.
Decided to clean up all the aluminum wheels before having new tires installed.
It's a lot of work for me, and I'm not finished, but getting there.
I needed to remove the damaged clear coat, and a lot of hand sanding
I'm using among other things Mequiar's Hot Rims metal polish.

Didn't want to reapply the original clear coat since it doesn't seem to last long, and looked terrible once it gets anything under it.

I am thinking of finishing up with https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0025QZMRI/?tag=atomicindus08-20 as it is advertised to leave a finish to resist salt etc., but must be reapplied every few months.

I fixed/replaced a blown 30 amp breaker, ran wire for some new overhead lights, put wheels on on my clamp rack, and built a hammer stand.

First I'd like to clear the air here. This took more than one day, but it was done in the most part in my garage. This glass is for my son. His new house has a window facing the street and the neighbors all have some sort of attention getting item in this location. The window is in a closet but faces south.

Been restoring an Athol 626, today I finally got around to final cleaning, taping, and priming... Never seen green primer before, but as long as it works... lol.

About to go back outside to clean off & polish up the slide and get it prepped to prime.

Thinking I'm going to paint this one blue and do white lettering...

I have a habit of critiquing my work rather harshly. I was just about to re-lead about half of the panel, when she reminded me that this will only be seen from the street. It's in the guest bedroom closet so we'll get to see it from time to time. With the south light shining on the window, only those standing in the closet at the time will see it. From the front yard it's setting behind the window glass, that obscures the stained glass behind.

The only thing to do is constantly have a light shining on the glass and use a baby monitor hooked to the TV so you can see the lights reflection through out the day.

My son originally wanted a Mormon religious symbol. Simple straight cuts.

I told him how much rather make something he could hand down to his children. With a short story, "Look kids, grampa was artsy fartsy."

Last weekend, I spent about 8 hours in the garage trying to coax the transfer case out of my Ford Escape. I have half the freaking vehicle laying around the garage...I'm now convinced they built the entire underhood portion of the drivetrain around the transfer case!
I'm going to be back at it when I get home from work tonight.

Finally got the F150 brakes back together after a short mistep with an incorrect torque spec... Called Crappy Tire and was put on hold twice, hung up after close to 10 minutes on hold while the girl asked me for the third time who I wanted to be connected to (it's a very small local store, they only really have two departments that I can be connected to).

Dad gave them a ring in an attempt to get the information we needed (presumably because he's stubborn), and they nor their supplier, allegedly, had stock of the guide pin bolts we needed to replace. We decided to drive into town and go to the local RayMac auto parts (one of two in the area separated by only a single block?)

They didn't have the individual parts instock either, but were more than happy to disassemble a full brake assembly they had on the shelf to get us back on the road (If this isn't a reason to buy local, I really don't know what is!)

Grabbed some fried chicken for lunch, came home and got back to work. fixed the side that needed the bolt, put the wheel back on and went to get snow tires to kill two birds with one stone.

Home with snows we took the drivers side caliper apart to find a seized glide bolt (luckily we only replaced the stripped out one on the other side, and had the second slide still available). Put brakes together, polished and installed snow tires, and torqued everything down to THE CORRECT SPEC this time and backed the truck out from beside the house. I'm considering trying to source repair/service manuals for our vehicles, but Dad's not sure he's going to keep the F150 much longer, so I may hold off unless I can find the manual for free.

All new pads and rotors came in from RockAuto yesterday so gonna get that done today.....get the boxes into the bin for pickup as usual Friday.

Then back to electrical for the basement development. Want this basement in drywall before Christmas where my Christmas present to myself should be a 65" 4K.

I'll look into that! I've still got to investigate an allegedly leaking oil pan gasket and water inlet that need to be replaced on my Cruze, so that could be worth it to have the manual for if I decide I want to actually take on the project.

Actually it was first titled 5 years and 5 months ago. It has 62K on it and the warranty is 5 years 60K. It's at the dealer and they will not warranty it and want to charge this poor girl $6000.00 to repair it. Really ***** seems how it is certainly a Mazda defect.

Mazda loves to screw around with warranty items. My '03 Mazda 6s Sport stalled at a light and wouldn't even turn over 3 weeks BEFORE the warranty was due to expire. Dealer opened up the engine and told me I had 3 cylinders that were out of round and somehow it was my fault. They didn't win that argument...

Last night I pulled the front two seats out of my Jeep to have the bolsters recovered and then finished up my doors on my work benches that I have been fabricating for the past couple of nights.

Tonight I have to quite stalling and get the snowblower ready to go, we are being told we will have snow on the valley floor in the morning and I have procrastinated long enough on firing up the snowblower.

Decided to flip the workbench over and install the new casters I bought recently. After depopulating the bench and flipping it however, I decided the casters that were on it were still in ok shape and didn't really need replacing. I opted instead to reorganize some of the hanging tools on the board, add some standouts to the back to avoid breaking a plug if the bench gets pushed too close to the wall, and generally clean things up. After that I repopulated the makeshift tool board (somewhat), and restocked the bottom shelf for the third time this week. I'll use the new casters elsewhere.

Did some repairs and maintenance to my vintage German Cuckoo Clock.

Cleaned off my winter windshield for my Harley that I'll bolt on tomorrow in prep for riding to an AMCA chapter meeting on Sunday.

Also packed up some more tools and collectibles for a move to the Jersey Shore area after the Holidays.

I bought these four 2015 Ram 1500 20 inch wheels off Craigslist and brought them into the shop. Tomorrow I will give the wheels a good cleaning and put them away until we need them. The wheels are for a 1952 IHC pickup that is being converted to 4X4. We are using 1997 Ram 1500 solid DANA 44 axles.
the engine is a Cummins 4bta with an automatic.
These wheels have a positive offset. This should keep the tires under the fenders.
My son wants this IHC to be painted a Mustang retina burning red with the running boards, bumpers, Dashboard, interior trim and seat rails in Ford Argent (silver)
I mill out the IH centre caps to fit these wheels and replace the ram's head.
The wheels have less than 1000 kilometers on them and should match the argent trim.
